to get around Disc Read Errors (yay!) on my PS2 I would frequently invert the console and place it upside down (dont ask me why but it worked) and it never scratched any discs. looking back it was pretty stupid of me, since im pretty sure I did it while running, but hey I assumed the mfr actually took 5 seconds to consider ways to prevent scratches.
