I think that what really matters in Japan is getting those well established franchises on board. New IP won't cut it alone.
Game Republic was working on two next-generation Xbox titles (new IP's), one of them being Xbox Live enabled.
To quote Konami: "We will provide one or two flagship titles for each machine, which will take advantage of their capabilities as next-generation consoles. We will release a new Metal Gear as a flagship title for the PS3, and are developing an original product for the Xbox 360."
So one new IP, and perhaps something like a new Castlevania/Winning Eleven/Silent Hill... Although these names are very likely to appear on PS3 in the first place.
Koei could either provide a new Dynasty Warriors title, or something related to the 'Romance of the Three Kingdom'.
From Bandai (and Namco?) either a new IP or the standard Digimon/Gundam stuff?
As for the surprising title(s), maybe True Fantasy Live Online that's rumored to be in the making for Xbox 360? Sega Japan?
