GS AU: Where do the new prices position your console in the Australian market now? Obviously, the Core is now the same price as a Nintendo Wii here.
DM: <cut> ... and we think that moving to that price point and doing some really interesting things around the Core--and we'll announce our strategy around Core in the time to come--we think we'll really push ourselves into that broader Wii market.
...
GS AU: How long will you continue to sell the Core unit?
DM: There are no plans to discontinue the Core SKU. We've actually seen over the last few months that the Core has started to grow in terms of sales. If you look at some of the recent sales with mass merchants, the Core is doing really well for us. We're pretty pleased with the momentum that's been building on the Core, and it's still important for us to provide that level of choice to the customer. We have no intention of discontinuing the Core at this point. Furthermore, this price adjustment and some of the things we're planning to do with the product over the holidays will make it a more significant part of the business.

Someone jumped the gun and hosted some pictures showing the holiday bundles in which both "Elite" and "Pro" versions of Xbox 360 will get a free bundle of Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
Which leaves the question as to what is happening with the core for the holidays still unknown, correct?
considering we havent seen any Core getting replaced with HDMI i'd say its getting axed like speculated. If they could drop its price to or below $250, it would of course still have value, but if they see their losses on the Core and previous sales as good enough of a reason, its pretty easy to figure they'd simply remove it.
Why would they add HDMI to the Core?
I think they are having problems with the falcons.
It would be a sign that they've moved all the units over to simplified production with 1 main board. I seriously doubt they'd produce 2 boards to save a couple dollars in production. It would seem to me that the costs to even do such a thing would off set the advantage.
I think they are having problems with the falcons. I don't think they will have much falcon stock this holiday season. I don't see the core being around this holiday season. I think we will see the core come spring time once falcon production is ramped up. I am curious what they will do with the core once it comes back. With MS wanting to turn a profit in the near future they pretty much have to ditch the core for now.
I think the simple matter is what we've been discussing all along - MS has some 90nm stock left to clear, the Zephyr board has proven an effective stopgap in terms of HDMI proliferation, and Falcon will just come when it comes.

Kinda reminds me of the Jet Set Radio/Sega GT bundle with the origonal Xbox.
Quest everything else aside, what leads you to believe that?
I was trying to give MS the benifit of doubt with such a modest price cut all around. I thought they were trying to clear the channels of old stock premiums to make way for the falcon introduction. It turns out the channels were not so full of premiums as I had thought as lots of reports of them being sold out. I figured soon as the channels were clear the falcon would arrive. Instead they are just using elite motherboards. The modest price cuts were not to clear channels but to turn a profit ASAP off of the higher cost 90nm elites. If the falcon was close I would of assume the price cut would of been at least 50 maybe more across all SKUs.
