Xbox 360 HD-DVD Interview

?? The V-series is a 1360*768 panel so of course the VGA input is limitied to that res.

In the UK the X-Series VGA input is limited to 1360*768, and you can trust me, it's true. It will not take 1920*1080 through VGA. In the US or Japan, things are probably different, you can put that under the already long list of things Europeans get shafted. And not in a good way.

By "mainstream" i was really talking about "widely available"... :D

Hmm, maybe it is in the UK/EU. In Japan and the US the V-series 40" and larger are 1080p now.

You have different names, that's why i did specify in the UK.

The V2500 is called W-Series in the UK. And it can't take 1080p from VGA. In the UK.

Hey i even gave u pretty pictures, look at the HDTV forum!! :D http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33854

I know it's confusing, and yes, Sony have been giving us TVs with less features and less connections than the US and Japan equivalents for years.

I see this kind of headed for some split market and dual capable players everywhere. The thing I'm worried about then, is how do you make hybrid discs that play on both formats?

You're looking at licensing issues basically. There won't be hybrid disc, more likely a hybrid player from all I can gather on avsforum. The nice thing about the add on is that for $199 you're getting the remote and a movie. So really it's about $149 or less for the actual drive. Not sure about you but I've wasted much more than $149 on things that have no replay value :)

Also, even if HD DVD dies out, it's not like your player will somehow stop working and not play HD DVD's. The safe bet would be to get the add on and then use Netflix to view the movies. The movies themselves are quite impressive. Makes Comcast or Satellite HD look quite poor.

Not seen it mentioned but wondered if you could play 360 game disks in the hd-drive? was hoping for something to cut down on the dvd drive noise.

Indeed, it would be quite nice if it were quieter. Also gives you the option of popping two games in at the same time and switching between them, super-lazy style. :D
