Xbox 360 50 Euro price cut March 14

Hmmm you could buy already a premium in some places for 279€. And the 200€ for the arcade version doesn't seem allot cheaper then what you pay here in mediamarkt since some time.

Intertoys is a very expensive shop.

Using these price drop numbers can we make a good guess on how the next US price drop will go?

Arcade - 70 euros & 40 Pounds
Pro - 80 Euros & 50 Pounds
Elite - 80 Euros & 40 Pounds

Arcade - ? US Dollars
Pro - ? US Dollars
Elite - ? US Dollars

So by your suggestion we would have...

Arcade - $210
Pro - $270
Elite - $370

Hmm. I don't know want to think. On one hand a $50 drop across the board seems about right considering the last drop. But then again, they really need a larger drop especially now with Blu-ray the clear winner. I just have a hard time believing that they'll drop that much though, especially if they're looking to replace the 20gb with a 60gb. Maybe a small drop now to introduce the new SKUs and another small one for the fall? Yeah, I know that goes against previous price drops in the U.S.(including the original Xbox). But they need a drop now and again I don't think they will go whole hog with large drop now.

the smart money would be a $199 Arcade unit (the only reason for its existence IMO) and I'm sure they'll be there sooner than later, just not sure if now is the time we'll see it

so $199, $299, $399 would be a nice price point for the next year or so.

I didn't expect Intertoys to sell it at 199 Euro too, but the scan proves it. It's an 80 Euro drop. I expect other retailers to follow (at least) as Intertoys usually sells at RRP.

The old console law tells us a 199 USD 360 is to be expected. We'll see.

Yeah, sub 200 console does seem a bit likely now.

On the other hand Europe has some priority now, so maybe they've decided to push harder (as they said they would). MS sure needs momentum badly over here.

The weak dollar might also spoil a huge drop?

I'm not saying that a price cut is not coming to US, but I checked from the paper that one € is now 1.54$ and I don't think these two currencies are going to be 1=1 for long long time. The current conversion means that the 199€ arcade nets MS 306 dollars, so it's a cut they can clearly afford and Europe is harder for MS than US, so I wouldn't necessary expect immeadiate cut in NA if the sales stays good.

Maybe MS decides to cut prices in NA too, but it hurts them a lot more to do it there and Xbox 360 is doing better against the competition there also, so they have less reasons to cut the price there.

It's coming for GTA4. That of which I'm 99.99999% positive.

It wouldn't make much sense for GTA. GTA will sell consoles, where MS already have the price advantage. Cutting the price means cutting profits on those units that'll probably sell anyway. More likely the price will remain the same but they'll be bundles, and after the GTA rush the price will still be earning MS a good bit into what they'd hope would be gained momentum for the platform.

People were positive that MS would drop the price when the PS3 launch. People were positive that MS would drop the price in Spring 06. The truth is MS have been very poor at figuring out ways to give themselves a full advantage over Sony.

LOL!

I'd have thought the truth was that people have been very poor in predicting MS's moves and motives.

Well to be honest they've made very little in the way of moves recently! I'm talking pricing of course.

Fact is they've got a significant lead over Sony and, as Shifty said, they'll shift units on the back of GTA4 (and that DLC). On the other hand, it's been ages (or feels like?) since they dropped the price. Couldn't hurt. I guess I'm fairly blase about it having picked up a replacement Elite a few weeks ago.

Err... I mean Spring of 07 on my last post. That was the time nobody wanted a PS3 and were sitting on the shelves. Somehow I just think MS lacks the killer instinct, when they could of taken a BIG advantage that time.

I'm not for or against a US price cut for GTA4 release. I see there are advantages and disadvantages to it, in terms of a business and consumer standpoint. But there is no question they miss a golden opportunity bigger then this one.
