Acert93, this is my darkhorse too, with 50+ sidequests, 10 main temples, 10 characters with at ~4 upgrades each for a total of 40 moves, experience points, massive battles, amazing audio... this game just sounds more and more impressive every day.
What impresses me most is the "old school" play mechanics. Kind of RPGish, but in an action sort of way. e.g. You drench a guy with oil with one character and then torch him with fire with another character.
It looks simple, but has a lot of characters and combos. Different powerups can be used to solve problems (more than one way to approach an issue, one may be easier though!) and that quick thinking of combo attacks can really do some damage. And it also has coop.
Mario and Zelda were never complicated games, but they had really strong gameplay and balance in these really neat worlds that balance exploration, discovery, and combat. I reall get the sense Kameo falls into that category.
I was hoping for maybe some intrigueing MP team DP, CTF, etc... something neat. But that is asking a lot. It looks like the core game is just excellent IF it turns out. I have high hopes on this one.
Most launched (i.e. first 3-6 months after launch) have a couple gems, a handful of ok titles, and a lot of stinkers that either look bad, play bad, or both. Kameo has made a good case to join PGR3 and Oblivion as "potentual gems". Of course this is conjecture, but what I see I like a lot.
The 360 also has a lot of tweeners... could be great, could just be "really good". CoD2 is one such title, a step below are games like NBA2K6, Chromehounds, PDZ, Prey, Q4, GR3, that show potential but really could go a lot of ways.
There seems to be a little bit of everything this launch... not a whole lot of ground breaking AAA titles (never is) but more solid, proven titles than I can ever remember. Games like Q4 may not interest everyone (does not make me excited) BUT I know a lot of gamers are. MS seems to have done a good job of hitting a lot of the key genres with some good titles. Racing, Adventure, Fighting, RPG, FPS, Sports, etc all seem to have at least a couple decent titles, at least competitive as what is found on other platforms.
That is exciting to me. What has me questioning though is where all the AAA games are. We saw some previews (Mass Effect, Too Human, GoW, SC4, possibly Crackdown) and there is third party stuff coming (like RE5), but it seems like there should be more. Of course the goal is to hype the games coming soonest and I am sure E3 2006 will have more info.
Hoping one of my friends gets a 360 so I can check it out. I always like next gen games
