Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

the first chapter has 3-4 groups of two, so that didn't really work. also, elena shoots at the enemies too, so she usually kills them.

i googled some tips (i couldn't find any before because i thought it was called the "iron fist master" but its called "steel fist expert"... that explains why i couldn't find any tips before ) and for anyone wanting to achieve the steel fist expert skill point, just do the square, R1, square combo to 5 enemies in a row. i knew about this combo before, but i didn't think that would count. anyway, that made things A LOT easier. donut drake is awesome!

Just an FYI for anyone going for the skills. You can carry over your progress through multiple play throughs, making them actually quite easy.
I'm on my third play through and I took my progress from each time to the next.So if you are going for Iron Fist for example, and you only get three in one game,it will save that three and you only need two the next game you play.
Or if you find that a particular area or chapter is best for getting a reward, you can just play that area or chapter over and over.It will save your progress along the way.
Once you realize that, getting rewards becomes more about having fun and experimenting with different play styles, rather than grinding through tough tasks.
I have 850 points, now I'm stuck on the final boss battle on crushing. :devilish:

EDIT:JUST BEAT IT ON CRUSHING. It's actually fairly easy once you figure out the exact pattern and where exactly to place yourself during the fights. If anyone wants to know my method, let me know.

Here is a tiny interveiw.

Uncharted is one of those games that people who own a competitor’s console are also interested in. Any plans to go multi-platform or can you vow that the franchise will stay a PlayStation3-exclusive?

Right now, we don’t think that a PSP version is in Naughty Dog’s future. We are trying to keep our focus on one platform – the PS3. The PlayStation 3 is a complex yet powerful system. We could not pull off the rich, seamless world of Uncharted on any other console. Because the system is so powerful, it means that tapping into that power requires great engineering efforts. We’re lucky that Naughty Dog has some of the best programmers in the industry. I can also tell you that as we’re finishing Uncharted, we’ve found new ways of optimizing our engine to take advantage of the hardware. All of which means that, as beautiful as our game is, there is a lot more in store for the PlayStation 3.

You got that right! What they did on the PS2 was amazing. I remember reading an article on NextGen magazine about them while they were working on Jak & Daxter which also touched on the technical side of things and it was apparent that they were very talented. I've no doubt they are going to blow our socks off with their future games later in the PS3's life.

Who asks a Sony company if they are going to go multiplatform, what a retard.

Well answered though by Evan

So, no version for the "competitor's console"

My only concern is whether he meant it that way or he's so Sony it didn't even register with him.

I hope it was the former 'cause that is all kinds o' cool.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this game.

Only up to about Chapter 5. Great gameplay. Great blend of combat/platforming.

I do wish their were more complex platforming elements. Maybe that comes later in the game (a'la the first level) but it hardly takes anything away from the game.

I do find myself getting a little lost occasionally in the dense jungle parts. Especially when in cover, pulling out, and moving the camera. The thicket of woods makes it hard to differentiate my depth and where I need to go. It has only happened a few times, but has caused me to die.

Speaking of that, very rarely do you have to restart to far back if you do die.

Just to reiterate whats already been said, if you are a fan of the action/adventure genre, this is a NO BRAINER.

While everyone else argues about the sales of this incredible title, got an interview here that answers some questions provided by B3d'ers. I put them forward to ripten who then questioned Richard Diamant - who used to frequent these forums!

Well here's the first part - lots of techy stuff.

http://www.ripten.com/2008/01/17/ri...iew-part-1-background-and-character-creation/

All of the main characters are in the 25k to 30k range. The pirates and other secondary characters max out at around 15k.

The number of texture maps is a hard question to answer. It really differs per character. They have so many maps it’s really hard to count. The head alone has I think either 6 or 7 maps. Then you have the arms, clothes, hair, eyes, teeth and tongue. Each with at least 2 to 3 maps. We didn’t really care about the number of maps as apposed to the texture memory each character was able to hold.

The number was about 10-15 megs per main character. With texture compression, that’s a lot of maps! The pirates and other secondary characters had a limit of 4 to 5 megs total. Also a fair amount of textures for secondary characters.

This was another area that we decided not to hold back on. The hair alone got into the thousands of polygons. I think Drake’s hair is about 2500 or so.

Jesus. Thats a lot of polys for hair, no wonder we have so many bald main characters :!:

Yuh it's insane isn't it...you can see it in screenshots and models...it's crazy poly's for hair. Best yet I'd say

Thats good although for hair the Crysis characters (with full hair) has over 5000 polygons for it (~10k polys ingame).

Where hair is concerned, I'd like to see another take on Nariko's hair (or Lara's or may be that FF chic's). The impact would be greater.

Nice interview with our old friend, and I'm looking forward to part 2. ;) (No, I don't just mean the obvious - I'm interested in the shadows and water also ;) )

End of Part 1. Part 2 will see us talking about Uncharted’s art style, shadows, and water, in addition to the advantages of Blu-ray.
