I tend to believe him on this though only becuase developers seem to know nothing about Sony's online plans or prefer the MS strategy. If Devs dont know about it how is it going to be in any games (or at least 1st gen titles)?

Of the three, I respect Robbie Bach more that Allard and Moore myslef.

They could be on NDA's, it *could* be that the developers already know Sony's online plan and they are already working their games into. But that's pure speculation on my part.

It seems that MS have showed their hands too early and are trying to get some response from Sony but Sony keeps throwing out junk cards.

It seems as if this unusual silence from Sony, and Nintendo!, has given a bit of insecurity to Microsoft. They know Sony will eventually release playables and ultimately the games, but why egg them on on releasing them this early?

I agree with Acert93 and Titanio's previous post.

I'm puzzled by this comment as it applies to everything shown for PS3 thusfar. We have had the likes of Killzone, but then we've also had games like Fifth Phantom Saga at E3 etc. It's not like Sony suppressed poorer quality vids in order to mislead people into thinking "all games will look like that" i.e. the Killzones of this world.

From our point of view, it'd be GREAT if Sony showed playable stuff at TGS at least, but it's not difficult to understand why they want to wait longer from both a marketing and a technical perspective. I'm not going to comment specifically on something like Killzone, but once playable games are shown, I think it's..hopeful (?) to expect them to look significantly different from many of their respective trailers thusfar (a perverse hope at that, IMO). I'm pretty sure Heavenly Sword will look like that. That I-8 will look like that. That MGS4 will look like that. That Warhawk will look like that. That Gundam will look like that (note the transition from CG to realtime there). That Fight Night will look like that. Etc. Etc. Some people seem to be clinging to Killzone as if it's something that ALL games need to meet, or as bar Sony set for ALL games (all these "sony better hope the games look like killzone" BS comments). That's nonsense. The most you can say about that vid is that it's the bar Sony set for Killzone. And that's it!

The idea of the 'big' trailers was to generate hype with the media and set expectations of what PS3 games will look like (whether it would be viable on the hardware or not). Yes there may be other videos of PS3 games out there but they were not shown in the main Sony presentations, where Sony knew everyone would see them and use them as benchmark.

Its pointless to deabte this now becuase until we see actual gameplay ont he PS3 we wont really know if they were misleading to solely draw attention from the 360 at any cost or they were really previewing what was to come on the system.

And again i agree it does benefit Sony to wait as long as possible, thats exactly what MS is trying to avoid by attempting to force them to show stuff earlier than theyd probably like to.

I think the idea the developers being under NDA is the least likely of all the scenarios in regards to Sony's online plans.

MS doesnt really have a choice but to show the stuff being theyre launch the console in about a month though right?

Theyre egging them on to try and get some of the 'wait and see' crowd off the fence. It can only help MS for Sony to show gameplay at this point since people are basing the MGS4 and KZ videos as what the games will look like. If the games turn out as well, MS is no worse off. If the actual games turn out worse, then maybe people wont be inclined to wait for PS3.

"We don’t want to hide behind videos, we don’t want to hide behind CGI movies, we don’t want to hide behind false promises - everything we showed on stage was real. Our medium is an interactive one. Showing isn’t enough."

Does anyone feel some anger or desperation behind this quote? (like the hype that Sony created is constantly on MS shoulders)

Its just the double standard .

When ms showed the raven video for the xbox they never lived it down. However sony will get away scott free with the killzone video .

 Err they were crucified for it. The fuss over the Killzone video was 19012 times bigger than the Raven one. but then again, lots more people saw the Killzone video than the Raven one.

I doubt it is weighing on shoulders but since it is "hype" based on a projection (target movies) rather than an actuality (games), I think they are just trying to tip the scales back to a balance with reality.

Maybe on the internet, in the weeks following E3.

But the fallout from the conference was, 99% of stupid journalists formed the conclusion that PS3 was truly next gen(based on CG) and X360 wasn't, this was reflected in all teh articles that went out, the newspaper stories, the TV editorials/news stories.

And the end result is the casual gamer says "I heard PS3 is more powerful..."

So ya, they did get away with it, if the jorunalists AT THE TIME had gotten a clue, and put things in perspective, and didn't spread the retarded CG-based hype then it would be a different story.

It's just gonna come back to bite them in the ass at launch anyways.

But you gotta think to a degree that MS had missed on the opportunities they had. E3, TGS, and X05. The pressue is on MS they are releasing in November. But I think the hype is most important in the beggining after the games roll in, people forget.

X05 showed close to fully completed games so if M$ missed some opportunity there it means there is something wrong with their product..

No...? Late Dev kits. Then again their showing these games a month before launch.

Also, the 15-20 games they say were ready. So far Kameo, COD2, PGR3, condenmation...but of these games which will make it to day one launch?

Supposedly Sony is launching in 4 and a half months!

Yeah right

Wow, someone's got a winning attitude. ;)

How many months before MS's launch did we get gameplay videos? Six? So it's not a big deal I don't feel - Sony has a different strategy than MS, that's all. Even if they have fewer games available at launch, I'm pretty sure they'll have some, know what I'm saying?

Let's wait until the end of October at least before we rake Sony over the coals on lack of gameplay demos. For all we know, they'll be on display at the Playstation Festival a week from now.

Common sense tells you that sony will launch in Japan anyways, so it's not comparable to MS's worldwide launch.

Sony can afford to launch in Japan with a much weaker line-up than MS requires to pull of a NA/EU/JAP launch.

In reality, Sony doesn't really need to start showing playable games until summer next year, to start gearing up for the worldwide launch in fall.

They are probably a 'little' worried about X360 in Japan though, because that domination has formed the backbone of their superior Japanese support, I'm sure they would not be happy to see X360 make signifigant inroads into their main territory.

At this point priority #1 for Sony is slowing adoption of X360, mainly in japan IMO
