Did Kazunori really promise near 60fps for extreme conditions ? I thought he simply said "except extreme conditions" without estimating the framerate ?
What he said was that they're aiming for 60fps, but that they weren't going to be able to hit it 100% of the time. He specifically cited a wet race start with all fifteen opponent cars in front of you, all kicking up water, as an example of where they can't hit 60fps.

He did not say how far the dip was going to be, though. I doubt we're looking at a game-crippling framerate drop, though. If it drops to say, 45fps, it will probably be noticeable, but definitely not unplayable.

I can't wait for them to release HD video of those trailers, though, especially the weather trailer.

VG247 is reporting that SCE has a hold on new media until tomorrow. I don't know for what region they're referring to by "tomorrow", however. Hopefully, we'll get some of the content on at least the JP PSN store.

I wonder what the X1 is free of technical regulations means really? Does it mean they are able to show off even more extreme damage or something else?

I think they're referring to the limitations imposed by various racing rules and regulations on a car's design and specifications.

A bit of low resolution effects are a given. That´s the usual way even in 545p/30frames games. The problem is that GT5 is running at double refresh rate and almost x4 resolution, and on top of that it includes the nightmare of full screen alpha...

I NEED some high res framebuffer direct feed in order to keep my mind in place. Obviously that´s not magic, so we NEED to know what´s happening. I don´t believe the assumption "more development time --> better graphics", it helps, but it can not assure succes. We have seen games with really long development cycles and the results were not so suprising.

In the technical way the question could be if the game is really advanced and do things in some economic, not usual manner, or the approach followed to sustain the high amount of effects and the tax due to resolution and refresh is the dirty and difficult art of lie to the eye. Or if simply the resolution has been changed, the poly count aggresively reduced... and the numbers are by no means so high as we believe.

I insist: we need to know... I thought of Polyphony as masters of optimization and wizards that make cheap methods look astounding. I wonder if that´s enough to explain this apparent show of pure muscle.

Please, what do you think?

Man, I just watched the rain movies...first I thought: yeah, and now? Then he put in the cockpit view -> phantastic!! Looks indeed "unreal"!!!

This movie is so much better.

BTW low-res alpha confirmed - look from 0:45 at the tires and back of the cars - You can see quite big jaggies.

Yep rain drops are dynamics, they depends of car velocity, wind velocity, g-force and rain intensity, You can also splash opponents windows with water stream and it's affecting visibility and rain behavior.

Yes, absolutely amazing. I didn't think we'd still get this to be honest, and it way exceeds my expectations.

Looks awesome! Only thing is, isnt it going to discourage people from using the in-car view by putting them at a distinct dissadvantage? In a way i kind of wish they had the balls to do away with any other camera options entirely and optimise the entire game around in-car view!

It would be great if I could play forced cockpit view games only when playing online - I hope they did include such filter options in the game!!
