The GT5 expectation thread (including preview titles)*

Ah apologies. Shouldn't have responded in the cinema ... you're right, it does say this. And yeah, those fake barriers are disappointing, I agree. Also while I strongly expect unrealistic crashing from GT, I do think that having TCS up that high should result in the car reacting a little more like he experiences after a crash. I drove without TCS a lot in Prologue, and cars would spin out so much sometimes some people complained that wasn't realistic either. At least now that the cars can go up in the air, they can evolve to something a little more realistic in that respect. Look forward to trying it for myself.

Of course, in the actual article he's not talking about the driving model at all when commenting on the physics, but rather the GT Pinball that's played when you hit a barrier or another car and the fact that it seems to be in place in GT5 as in previous iterations.

Oh, and (from page 1 of the linked article):

Hope this helps.

My understanding of his complaint was you could push cars out of the way as if they were on ice, like there is not a lot of weight to the impact.

Anyone know of any UK online export shops (to export items from the UK to the US)? I'm not asking for any specific reason. Not at all. So don't go looking for some crazy GT5 Signature Edition or anything. It doesn't exist. :p Seriously though, what online shops will export games from the UK (Amazon UK won't export video games to the US, apparently).

Also...time to sell a kidney, anyone wants ? no smoke no liquor damage, used only to purify water, fruit juice & soft drinks. :p

Finally something that looks like marketing from Sony.

The chance to win a Mercedes is an interesting move. Don't be afraid to ask for money if you have a well packaged product.

I think they're more comfortable with the price because of the 'legacy' that Gran Turismo has. They know they have a pretty old audience out there that has been following since GT1, and it's likely that each and every available "Signature Edition" will sell.

Agreed. There are only a few console franchises that can get away with a collector's edition with that type of price and GT is definitely one of them.

What I don't understand is why SCEE has consistently done far more for GT (like promotions, and this Signature CE along with a standard CE) than both SCEA and SCEI. I know Gran Turismo is strong there, but it's not its strongest market (sales wise), is it?

Didn't know that. I thought historically, sales wise, it's been NA -> EU -> Asia for the series. Well that would explain why they get all the good promotions. We're not buying enough Gran Turismo in America!

GT 3 sold better in NA. GT 4 sold something like 3 times better in Europe compared to NA though. More importantly for Sony, the GT franchise is a system mover in Europe like no other game.

Cheers

So GT3 was biggest in NA, and only the suckers in Europe bought GT4 en masse. :p Europe has seen 20% more GT sales than NA, mostly the latter titles where NA seems to have suffered either from GT fatigue or more competition.

Here's a breakdown of where and how it sells. http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

Thanks, that's a very useful chart. Rather surprised to see the number of Prologue sales. I saw the number for NA and thought "We bought a million units of GT5:p! Why aren't we getting all these special GT5 promotions?!" and then I saw what was sold in Europe.

I see that now. If memory serves me there was even a GT5:p bundle for certain territories in Europe, no? It will be interesting to see what SCEE does closer to GT5s launch.

People are wondering about GT5 load time now...
http://kotaku.com/5608849/video-shows-gran-turismo-5-has-painfully-slow-load-times

According to this video of a Nurburgring demo, GT5 takes over a minute and a half to load. This track is quite long, so that might be a factor in this lengthy load time. It could also mean that shorter tracks have shorter load times.

Update: Some readers have pointed out that this video may be slowed to give the appearance of longer load times. Make of it what you will!
