The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

The game performs better in outdoor environment compared to indoors....thats odd.

halo 3 was similar but much worse. im glad bungie fixed the awkward hitches in framerate that halo 3 had. Halo 3 would have these awkward framerates of around 28fps on most maps except opened ones. it gave it a very jittery feel.

I have the impression that AW has similar issues. It massively tears when in a building (e.g. beginning episode 4), but I never noticed tearing outdoors!?

Sword Base

Interesting. I watched the entire video and didn't notice the framerate ever dropping below 29. The dip to 20.5 must have been very brief. Certainly, it seemed to be solidly in the mid 29s the entire match.

If you can, try to get data for Boneyard in the Invasion playlist, as that is a pretty huge map with typically a lot more action going on.

Good stuff! Thanks for the effort!

multiple explosions, 4 spartans on screen, 4 corpses on the ground, jetpack lighting any other game woulda dropped to single digits

Wasn't it because the beta maps lack baked AO outdoors?
baked AO wont have a significant impact on framerate thats why its baked not calculated realtime

The next DF head to head will feature a comparison. It's an acquired taste, so perhaps the negative comments you're hearing are of the game design itself... it'll have you pull your hair at times.

Having finished the game several times already, I concur with the other member here (forgot who it was). Fairly smooth with occasional dips when too many character models are crowding the screen. It's better than RE5, pre or post patch. However, in certain missions (3 of them in fact), there are weird momentary pauses.. it literally looks like someone froze the game for a split second. Thankfully, they're not frequent but they're random since I've only experienced them yesterday while playing solo. They happened near or in a body of water even with not much going on.

I'm convinced that the IGN reviewer didn't play the final version and based his opinion from the demo since the frame rate and pauses were very frequent there. I watched the video review and he mentioned that the game tears more than the 360 game, which is impossible because the game appears to be triple buffered, but the demo tore a lot.

Well it's ... really strange this situation, because again someone like you said occasional dips and in caotic scenes, other said almost unwatchable. I know a lot of different of opinions very contrasting and I don't understand if depend only to personal perception or a technical issue in the code of the game :???:

I thought tearing was rather noticeable...infact I predicted somewhere around 15% tear rate. :p

in some heavy spots of the game it is very noticeable but for the majority it was not an issue for me. Im sure remedy will improve the engine for alan wake 2, this is 50 guys we are talking about that had to change development a number of times.

Agree, it does not annoy me much at all in this game. Maybe it stays high on the screen? Really I have noticed other graphical bugs more than tearing by far.

I notice the tearing most when I use the red fares. It does tear in the middle of the screen sometimes. I've noticed tearing more in Alan Wake than in other games, but not to the degree that it bothers me.

yea the movements can be jerky at times. Overall Alan Wake seems like a 1st gen xbox 360 title. I think remedy will improve alot for the 2nd game. They needed to release it so some cuts were needed like the resolution.
