The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

Thanks, framerates holds up pretty good, not so much for the tearing...I dont remember it being an issue though.
I only saw the first 2 minutes or gears, min FPS == 20fps, I cant understand why there was nothing going on!!
anyways nice one ps360 its good youre keeping the developers honest

Yesterday I was playing Gears 2 MP with my friends on Jacinto, mode was Guardian. Everything was running smooth for a while but after 4-5 mins or so the game started to have terrible FPS drops whenever I looked over at the area in the center of the map..I mean this area:

The Framerates were easily in mid to high teens whenever I used to look or play in this area. And the game also lost its V-Sync at those times.

Now my real question is...why did this happen ?
Since it never happens when people play Wingman,Warzone or Execution, it was the first time I noticed this in Gears 2.

Killzone 2 framerate is not so good(not terrible) but has alot more going on, at least in that scene.

Not so good? It has an average of 29.2fps over the course of 12 minutes, with a "targeted" framerate of 30fps with no tearing. I guess that would count as "perfect" in a normal world.

Whereas Gears has 6% torn frames and "only" 29.7fps... OMG, the framerate holds so much better^^ Actually, it IS 1% better, at the cost of 6% torn frames.

Really...

I would say considering what KZ2 is pulling off all at once while remaining a fairly steady framerate in one of the most demanding sections of the game, it's pretty hard to beat and very impressive. I for one didn't expect them to get anywhere near as close to what they achieved.

It had failry good framerate overall although several major dips down to 20-24fps. However there was not much going on except the illusion created by the dirt/blood/effect on the player screenview. Many view "cramped" parts had slowdowns.

I had a bug once in Gears 2 (single player) where the game slowed to an absolute crawl indefinitely, and only a reboot fixed it. I thought it was interesting at the time, never seen a console do that.

Happened the same with me once in RE5....didnt get normal until I restarted.
It was very odd for a console game .

But I think that the case I talked about earlier was different than this.
I've even noticed that the game [Gears 2 MP] has Framedrops when someone zoom in from Ghost Cam over the blood splattered on ground from dead bodies.

is there any framerate analysis for gears 2..... cuz sometime I think the game is below 20..... in split screen there moment that I thought the system crashed.....

18-20fps for the cutscene... ~50% torn frames...

They are really pushing the consoles beyond their limits.

The game certainly doesn't look that hot. It's more like lack of optimisation rather than "pushing to limits".
This game has "developed for PC and ported to consoles" written all over ;)

Certainly a PC port lacking finishing touch.

I'm playing Call of Juarez BIB on PC with max settings & even I think the game doesnt looks any better than avg. The shadows are weird [something like jagged & glossy] & the textures are certainly not even close to the best seen on consoles. [even when I'm playing this on PC] and the animations are stiff as rock. Only plus point to me was the character models & the scenery.

P.S.[I noticed that the Guns always seem to go through objects here & there whenever you take cover...its very distracting & I am pretty surprised that the devs didnt looked after this as its all over the place]

One page back!

The other way around if anything, seeing how they limited the graphics in the PC version making it a slightly better derivate of the console version. However one cant forget that this games renders quite big scenes while trying to have even texture detail across all textures and has global realtime shadows and moving vegetation. Also the nice 3D vegetation takes some perfomance etc etc.

Seems the reason why this game has such high framerates at high resolutions on low-end PC hardware..

I disagree, textures are close and if you count the scene, amount, and that they tried to have the quality roughly same across all textures it stands out as one of the best if not the best on console IMO. Also there is quite some amount of AI running around in most scenes. Considering the framerate and amount of torn frames (PS360 video) they wouldn't be able to squezee in so much more as this game stands as one of the best on console visually/tech (IMO) and you could gauge the optimisation level by that.

Would be nice to see the 360 perfomance video for Bound in Blood.

It seems like none of you have actually played the 360 version of COJ ;) The game doesn't run at 18-20 fps. There must be something wrong with ps360's measurement as the game actually runs at above 30 fps most the time. It's just not capped at 30, and there's no V-Sync at all.

It was between 18-20 fps only in the opening cutscene, once the game started it was around 30 fps, you probably would have noticed if you had watched the ps360's video, before you criticized his equipment ;)

18-20fps was for intro cutscene in the video linked. However gameplay seems to be around 30fps with lots of 25-26fps parts and few 32-33fps parts. That and massive amount of tearing with a ~50% overall mark.
