This isn't really surprising coming from you ;)

Do you even know all the features the game has? Reviews of this game agree that this game pushes the next gen barriers in terms of feature set and replayability.

Leave it out. Questioning one of the biggest games in the console world should not be labeled as trolling out right. The simple fact is that Halo influenced FPS on consoles and FPS games have improved, and moved on. They have also done a lot which has improved upon Halo itself, creating their own innovations.

I'm very aware of the feature set of Halo 3 and it's 3.0 features, still calling the game itself and its gameplay a revolution compared to the magnitude of Halo1 is an over exaggeration. It is instead a sharpening of the Halo's before it, improving on previous failures.

I think it's pretty sad that I'm insinuated to be trolling just because I've said other games have learnt from Halo1 and pushed ahead with their own innovations that aren't seen in Halo3, and is also an insult to all the developers who have made FPS games in the past 5 years, apart from Bungie.

This isn't neogaf.

Just checked Bungie.net for the first time. There's been almost 1,500,000 unique people playing online in the last 24hours. The game has only been out a couple days now. Wow.

Less than 48 hours to be exact :p

I noticed some people are playing in Japan right at this time! wee!

Bungie left the core gameplay essentially the same, but greatly enhanced it with tons of new weapons (Spartan Laser FTW) and balanced it, which makes it the ultimate Halo experience (I'm talking about multiplayer as it's the only one I played). Stuff like Forge, Theatre, scoring, sculls add a lot to longevity and replayability. It might not change overall FPS gameplay experience and the way we look at games, but it might introduce features we will require from games from now on, which in a way would be influential... A game doesn't have to be a revolution to get great scores - being extremely fun and give player a lot to do might enough for that.

The funny thing is we had the same debate a year ago - "is Gears of War any innovative?" and now you can see that 3/4 of 3rd person action games steal the core gameplay from GoW... The same could be said about God of War.
The game has only been out a couple days now. Wow.
Two days. And I won't buy my copy until Friday. :(

I haven't played it yet but watched my brother play it for a bit....some impression...

The graphics a mixed bag and not up to the screen shots and hype thus far...but an slight upgrade from Halo 2.

Gameplay...its where its at with lots of great features and open envinroments...

I agree with some that the hype has overshadowed that Halo 3 is a natural upgrade from Halo 2 but not the end all be all shooter...bioshock and gears are at the top of my list.

This got me thinking that there has been emphasizes and the "hype" marketing distinction from Halo 2. The comercial with the Halo 2 suck face graphics with goodbye this and good bye that...and the believe marketing...Its as if the message is forget what this core game is about and just buy into the hype...

Look I never said it wasn't perfection. We all know Bungie has perfected painting by numbers. All i said was that Halo 3 is not pushing the genre like Halo1, and that many shooter games have made their own innovations, which in some ways are better than in Halo3 eg. Gears, eg. Bioshock, eg. Resistance.

I'm sure they can all still learn from Halo3's balancing, but it is not as influential as it's grandfather!

I'm sorry but it's almost borderline insane to say this is only a slight upgrade from Halo 2.

These are all in-game screenshots btw.

Please tell me what "innovations" Resistance or Gears have brought into the mix please? Gears isn't even a FPS!

Even playing on an SDTV, this statement is false.

Where was the hype for the Graphics? If anything the hype is downplaying the graphics. I'd say the graphics were underrated in this regard. And saying they are only slightly better than H2 ... well ... perhaps you need your eyes checked?

The screenshots don't do this game justice.

I still think there are a couple of games that have better graphics, but I don't recall a lot of hype saying it would be "the best looking game ever" either.

Did i say it was an FPS? I said it was a shooter. Resistance brings innovative weapons and enemies. Gears...well you can come up with your own for that. Whether these two are as innovative as you'd like still doesn't change my point.

Ps. all screenshots are ingame, but with added AA to make them look very clean.

You think new weapons and the enemies in Resistance are innovations to the genre?

I said that there are some games that bring innovations that are better than in Halo - Resistance gives weapons and enemies. How concentrated or extreme the innovation is doesn't change the point. Halo3 doesn't push the envelope like it's brethren! It's a pretty simple and obvious point, that shouldn't be a problem to realise, but people are very defensive. It's exactly the same point as saying Doom1 had a massive impact on gaming, that Doom3 did not.

Those shots are the ultimate in bullshottery, that's what. Look at how touched up they are and how there is zero aliasing. Not even shader aliasing. They look like photos.

If anything, they show me that Bungie was afraid to use real shots from the game. And for good reason from what I've read and seen in some shots from reviews.

AA is the only touching up but lighting, geometry, textures, art, water, fire, scale are all like that in game and all look good to me. (especially on HDTV)

Yet they feature ingame models, textures, effects and lighting. Wether the aliasing will disturb you or not is a different, though obviously important question. But anyone comparing the game to Halo 2 is just as obviously way out of line...

The shots are double resolution, with AA and downscaled to 936x570.

So they certainly give a much cleaner image than the actual game. With that said, the beauty you see in the textures, effects, backgrounds and lighting is all in the game and should not be completely disregarded.

On-screen, the end visuals look similar to those screens, with much more aliasing of course.

yes but that is the point. They hide a lot of uglyness. People need to recognize that. But I realize it's a hopeless fight, that. The fact of the matter is that those shots are not what you will see when you get the game. Not by a long shot.

I'm not saying that it determines whether the game is good or not. It's just very disappointing. This game was supposed to be the 2nd generation of 360 games, designed for tiling, and I think most people expected AA and filtering.

But whatever. I'm sick of ranting about something that not many really care about lol.

 at people downplaying Halo 3's graphics from the added AA in screenshots.

Taken off someone's TV. Aliasing or not the game is extremely impressive.

What? It is exactly like what I'm seeing on my TV.
