I too think the SP campaign will be fine, but I am trying to resist the hype. I had really high expectations for Halo 2, and I was a little disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype (in my opinion).

I can definitely understand some hesitation. I never had as much fun with H2 campaign as with H1. For H3 though, my position grants me the ability to be confident where most would probably not. /vague

You are someone important or close to Bungie, I'd imagine

Glad to hear it. I am looking forward to the game very much.

I'm just hoping the end-to-end experience ends up being stellar. The mechanics in Halo 3 really feel good (even talking from the perspective of the public Beta). They really nailed the balance (weapons, melee, grenades, equipment). Possibly even better than in Halo 1.

It'd be nice to see a huge, super-hyped game really deliver. There's been a lot of disappointments this gen, I think. Bioshock has lived up so far, but the hype for Halo is even light years beyond that.

Some new screens (re-uploaded to photobucket, some of the screens at the link do not have larger versions available though, a couple are old, mostly new):

I resized them just a tad to fit within forum rules, though the originals are only 850*478 anyway.

I think I'm the only one that doesn't really like the plasma sword. :| More like crystal sword..

Yea, then it actually looked gaseous rather than solid. Personally, I thought the E3 2003 version was the best so far in conveying the fact that it's a "plasma" sword. :|

I like the first pic AlStrong posted, but the second is a total meh.

The biggest problem is how flat MC and the grunts look. The skin on the grunts looks almost like a diffuse texture an no normal, AO, albedo or other techniques. I am sure there is some stuff going on, but however they did it, it looks poor in this shot. And there are others like it. ANd it seems odd because the grenade is reflecting in the bland metal. Another reason it looks flat is beause the self shadows aren't very distinct. Not as noticable here, but in some shots the self shadow is lighter than the shadow on the ground. While the occluded side of the grunts may be the right darkness, based on the contrast on the ground (light versus shadowed areas) the right side of the grunts should be a bit more illuminated. MC's leg and gun on it look really bland, too. To top it all off it is an odd resolution (1600x900). So why take a PR shot of such a boring shot that doesn't do your game any favors? Isn't the point of PR shots is to show the BEST of your engine with cinematic, perfectly placed shots?

The game has some really nice elements graphically at times. But shots like the one above look poor at best. If any other game had a screenshot like that we would rip it apart. The only nice thing in the shot is the trees in the background!

The below is a very basic shot, but it shows far superior contrast:

Albedo basically means the diffuse texture without lighting...

My bad. I took it that Albedo delt with the reflectivity of an object. e.g. Snow having a high albedo and dirt having a low albedo.

Maybe you can answer this then: Why is the term being used for simple diffuse layers?

Is albedo a term in rendering for the range of reflecticity, i.e. the wavelenths (color) of light reflected (and eventually absorbed by the eye)? e.g. An object with high albedo is going to reflect more wavelengths of light (like snow, hence it is white) and something like charcoal, which has a low albedo, meaning it reflects very few wavelengths and hence is dark.

Yea, that first one has a lot more going for it than the second one, but I do like how the plasma grenade lights up the metal (even if it seems brighter than the plasma grenade itself!). :p I agree that the shot isn't exactly flattering - "great, it's concrete all around and flat. Do we need to see this right now? Aren't there better things to show?" I'd rather they picked a screen shot from earlier in that level with the lusher green environment.

The first one is just right in your face with the specular off of the shotgun and the MC. And in the same shot you get the dusk lighting in the desert there. The detail in the warthog and the marines looks quite superb there, though the lighting of their faces seems a little off... somehow.

edit: no high res for this one:

The IQ is low, but you get a nice sense of the lighting interaction underneath the chief's torso.

PS: Is there a bug with image counting? It tells me that I've included 7 images when they were actually 5. Now that I've deleted one of the links it is fine but I did only include 4 pics. I also had to delete the pics in Alstrong's quote because they counted as they were images I posted. Seems to me that it's a recurrent situation, it happened to me thrice

It is becouse smileys are counted as images also, therefore 2 smileys + 5 images equals 7 images!

Also it doesn't mather if the smileys is in your post or in the quote, both counts.
