Starfield [XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

Well, going just by what was shown, Starfield is basically a less graphically advanced Star Citizen with far simpler space combat, space flight, space simulation, etc. but the ability to build your own starships. Oh and Starfield might actually ship next year. :)

However, that said, Starfield likely actually has a coherent storyline and isn't just a sandbox. The fact that it's far less graphically advanced also means it should run better. It also has a far larger game world with multiple solar systems and 1000 planets.

So, it's completely fair for people to compare the game to Star Citizen. But outside of graphics, space simulation and space combat where Star Citizen shines, Starfield comes out ahead in just about all other areas.

Well don't forget star Citizen has SQ42 that will release in 2014...... Oh man can't believe we are 4 months away from the 10 year anniversary of the kickstarter lol

As a star citizen fan and backer I can tell you that even on my rig (3700 32gigs of ram , 3080 , nvme drive) star citizen plays really poorly. So I think this is really close to start citizen lol.

I saw the flight combat bit first and thought it looked really unimpressive, but then any 'realistic' space dog fighting in 3rd person is bland to watch.

Like the look of the rest of it. Pretty much what you'd expect for Bethesda's style coupled with current gen hardware, without leveraging whatever we should be calling Nanite style geometry.

The whole 1000 planets thing got me excited. It's not about exploring every square inch of every one. They've setting the game up to provide a really nice feeling of adventure, discovery and surprise. Their snippet of planets showed a really nice variety. They also have proper time by the looks of it. That should create some really nice views.

sure i have been watching vids and tech demos from STar Citizien for how long now? I dont rememeber, and when i will be able to play it? Still dunno. So saying that this is basically Star Citizen its a bit of a overstatement. For all i know Star Citizen is just fancy smoke and mirrors tech demo vs full game that ships soon (TM).

You might not be playing it but lots of people are already playing and have been for way over a year now. Some people have already spent hundreds of hours in Star Citizen. Just depends on whether or not you like playing in a sandbox without a storyline (there's side missions but no main story). So, you could be playing it now if you were into that sort of thing. :)

Ok noted, so what is the problem here? There is no place for another game?

I look forward to learning more about the campaign.

I presume this is current gen the facial tech look last gen though.

do we know if this was running on xsx or pc? Because if this is how the game runs on high end pc than boy i dunno if they will be ready to get it up and running on reasonable performance on xsx early next year ( xss good luck buddy).

There's FSR 2 to help. So xss can render at 720p upscaled to 1080p

I'm really impressed by the visuals. Seems they've really pushed here, and it's definitely delivering a next gen level experience, especially keeping in mind the huge scope of the game Bethesda goes for.

And I'm petty certain this will be 30fps-only on console. Even if the performance in the footage wasn't dodgy, I'd still insist that 30fps will be almost guaranteed with the fidelity they're aiming for here. And I'm very cool with that. Would rather see this than have them water down their ambitions just so it could have a 60fps mode. As usual, anybody who wants it all can buy a nice gaming PC.

I have to admit to being a little underwhelmed by this, for some reason I thought they would be a little more advanced than they have shown themselves to be. It literally does look like skyrim in space, even the NPCs have the same cardboard features. And why do they have to face you for every conversation. It would have been nice to see some Cyberpunk style interactions. It jus makes it feel dated even though it's a wee bit shinier.

Probably it's just being spoilt by NMS, Cyberpunk, and countless other newer games, talking but unless the story is gripping and the exploration isn't too tedious then I can't see this being a purchase until the modding community have got thier hands on it.

Typical Bethesda game, visually years behind other studio's of equal size and performance issues.

I'm not shocked because I expected nothing more from them.

While I run 3090s, your RTX 3080 and 3700 CPU should should be fine for most medium to high IQ settings. Honestly, Star Citizen ran pretty great on my older Titan XP setup, plus SC performance has improved tremendously over the years. But yes, you shouldn't be having poor performance with your current PC setup.

I can't help feel the locked off talking heads contribute as much to the 'cardboard' nature of them as the facial animation. Having said that, I though the first woman we see was by far the worse in terms of uncanniness around the eyes. The long haired old guy worked much better.

Having said that, the NPCs wondering around don't look any worse than other modern open world titles. For all Epic's marketing around metahumans, the background NPCs The Matrix Awakens are also just fine.

Graphics are ok for the genre. Gun play and sounds seem very mediocre. The facial animations are cringey. The world seems interesting though. I wonder if the economy is more intricate than just mining and selling stuff.
Apparently you'll be able to enslave whole Alien worlds and have them do the mining for you. ;)

I can only tell you what i see from playing it. If your in space the game play is fine. Once your on a station it start to suck. I mean one of their projects is to completely change the renderer.

I don't think SB was implying that, nor was I. It's just fair game to compare both, regardless of Star Citizen's infinite development cycle.

"Anyhow, the game seems fairly bland at this point and the gameplay that was shown, wasn't necessarily all that different from Star Citizen."

I must have misunderstood that. My bad.
