Rumor: MS and Bungie splitting

Yeah your right... Hmmm I could have sworn some people left Bungie a few years back, I could be mistaken though.

There has been a couple notable people leave Bungie.

Max Hoberman left to form Certain Affinity
Alexander Seropian left to form Wideload Games

Could it happen again? Duh... Would Microsoft sell Bungie immediately following the release of their flagship title? Doubtful.

Either the key people at Bungie have gotten too much money or not enough since MS acquired them.

If they got a ton with probably big bonuses with each Halo release, they may no longer have the motivation.

If they didn't get enough, then they may be pissed. What if they got a ton of MS stock, which hasn't moved very much since 2000?

But it probably doesn't matter. MS would own the Halo property and they could hire more hungry talent to keep making sequels or offshoots.

Even if future Halo games or Halo-derived games aren't that good, the name alone will generate big revenues for several years.

Well, wasn't expecting to see a thread title like this, that's for sure!

The Halo-related news just gets weirder by the day it seems. Anyway I did a search and found this - seems to at least put more of a story to the story than the Kotaku piece.

But at the same time it's a blog post by a totally anonymous individual...

The whole thing sounds bizarre; if this is real and NDA's really are expiring, then I imagine we'll be hearing about it soon. One way or another, this rumor is likely going to become large enough that it gets addressed in an official capacity before long.

Heh, if this turns out to be true and Bungie makes an exclusive for a competing system, we'll know it wasn't such an amicable parting.

MS meanwhile could outsource development of future Halo games, make bigger profits, not have to share as much with the creators of the franchise.

This really would show the difference in mentality between Sony and MS! Is MS looking to outsource everything, and hold no first parties?

Does this mean we might see a sequel to Oni for PS3 now?

First Bizarre and now Bungie, what's going on? Weren't the development studios not techincally talented enough for MS's standards. Even though they are without a doubt very talented when it comes to gameplay, I don't think their games ever were technically on the top.
Maybe MS wants to outsource the development of those top franchises to developers they think have more technical know-how, or give them to Microsoft Game Studios.

I thought MS only had a 3 game deal with Bungie (ie Halo 1, Halo 2 and Halo 3) not that MS "owned" them.

it sounds like one of those rumors that big things attract like flies.

However, if Bungie does leave Microsoft, it wouldn't surprise me either. It's obvious they aren't going to do a Halo 4. Ergo, they are going to want to do something different. Ergo, they might leave Microsoft. It's that simple.

Well it's not entirely obvious that they are not doing Halo 4, but maybe they want to do more stuff also. However your proposition is atleast as likely, if this whole thing holds true. I don't think MS is willing to throw fps Halo games out of the window, so somebody is going to make them in the future, that's my quess and hope anyway.

I'm nowhere near ready to say goodbye to Halo and MC

Have you seen the end of Halo 3? Past the credits? I think that was pretty much left open for more Halo at some point in the future and they always said the "trilogy" concerned the current story arc, not Halo as a whole.

Ok, maybe I should have said I doubt BUNGIE is going to do another Halo. ;) Didn't they always say that they were done after 3? That doesn't mean there will never be another Halo, obviously.

Then why would they make the ending like that? The ending sets up another Halo plain as day. Hell, I almost expect one in three years as usual

Personally, Halo 3 was disappointing enough I'm not that enamored of Bungie anyway. If MS let them go but kept the Halo franchise, I'm not sure I'd be all that disappointed. I'd probably be happy.

Plus, they cry to much. Why am I always hearing about how Bungie doesn't want to do another halo? I dont hear PD crying about not wanting to do any more GT's, depite they do more GT's than Halo.

You have a good job bungie developers, suck it up and do your job or get out ofthe business..

That's an unfair comparison though, PD are doing what they love, cars and racing (even outside the gaming World).

Halo is just a game to Bungie not a lifestyle choice. I imagine they may feel creatively stunted by being "forced" to do Halo and are bored of it.
