Resistance: Fall of Man gameplay impressions

To much hidden agendas in this thread against a great dev and what will be in my opinion a great game. Like Phil said the light is dynamic and Im sure it was just to show the phyics and how the light is cast on the room and objects. Some of you go into a tiraid over a tech demo? The game has gotten outstanding previews so far but yet we get the oh been there done that crap.
Sorry but resistance looks great and from the previews it plays great also and its early. That means better things are yet to come. Throw in 60fps and a chance of 1080p and dinner is served.

It is hard to knock Resistance here (as a lot of top-end PC shooters have the same issues), but this is a general issue I would like to see addressed. I hope a team gets ambitious, but also back to basics. Time to rethink why we cannot shoot through doors and bust lights.

Yes, it certainly is. In all honesty, the only reason I even noticed it was because they actually spent so much time focusing on it. I wasn't aware that their intentions were to show how the lighting moves when the light source moves. All I noticed was how ridiculous it was that the light source didn't go out.

There's no hidden agenda here. Any game trailer that shows somebody empty half a clip into a light and demonstrate that it's bullet proof will receive the same comments.

i think..... i'm willing to forget the light thing

Thank you for this picture my friend, it is very amazing for 60fps 720P. Only three things I notice is wrong. One item is self-shadow because creature and creature's soldier have no self-shadow. Other item is little bit polygon edges. Also main character hand has little bit unfinished look. Also polygons for environment is nice and even round pipe is round instead of 8 sides.

I like the art direction for this game in a way that the developers aren't using much HDR lighting and rich colors. Most of the colors are desaturated given it that appeal of a 1950's retro movie.

So you count yourself as one of those people who are more interested in shiny things than in gameplay or realism?

What actually is the point of realistic graphics if your actions are limited by environmental restrictions?

your right, i forgot how bad unreal-tourmament did with all its environmental restrictions... or mohaa.... or cod.... 3 games i played to death online.

sorry, i dont get what your getting at...
shinny things are for girls, i go by the feel. That pic was quite a spine chill feeling. But does it go over gameplay for me? i sent an Email to the Devs the first day of E3 if they suported mouse+ keyboard, i think this answers your doubt ;) (and they didn't know it yet.... rr)

really, i want the game for 32 multiplayer. Single player is good if my net goes down.

First post so here goes.

I was at E3 on wednesday and got to get alot of time with both the halls.

The PS3 area was great and this game was by far the most impressive to see. The way it moved and was animated was beautifull and it just looked good. I was seriously in doubt about the PS3's abilities in comparrison to XBOX360 and this settled it for me. PS3 will be a good percentage better then XBOX360 if not just because of the extra amount of stuff in the environments which really makes a difference. Also the Image Quality was top notch with AA applied.

He seems like the type thats appreciating whats actually good about the game, instead of crying about lights not being able to be blown out. What your saying would be very much true if the game was being shipped tomorrow, but it isn't.

Even if lights aren't able to be blown out in the final game, i'm willing to settle with the game with the visuals i've seen in the video.

I think you took it way too seriously than you should have. Its just a bulb in a ton of other detructible things :p

Did anyone watch 720p trailer @ sony's site? How does it look?
Yeah I posted the link on the first page, I think the trailer looks great. Gives me a feeling of theres alot of stuff more we dont know about. Almost as if e3's demo of the game is just a taste test :p

So you can blow holes in walls but not light bulbs?

As far as 'the game isn't finished yet.. maybe it'll change', well then, good. It should change.

It just kills me that prior to the 360 launch, all the talk was that in order to be 'next gen' games had to be more than just pretty. They had to have better AI, better physics, better environmental interaction.

And then when the games actually come out.. it's fine if they don't have any of those things because they are so pretty.

:) You noticed it too ? I thought it could be me.

I went there with an open mind (Resistance wasn't even on my radar because I'm getting sick of FPS). I was impressed that everything on screen held together smoothly even when fighting ensued everywhere (plus explosions and debri). The scene was noticeably more chaotic than other FPSes in E3 2006. Most of the aliens were running (a few shot from covers). The running/charging aliens added more rush to the battle because you need to hunt them down before they kill all your NPCs, plus also watch your back.

Most of the FPSes I saw in E3 are pretty (More "exotic" color palette, more extreme contrast with striking lights to show case HDR I guess, more refined details in some areas). But during battle, I saw small artifacts in motion that immediately throws me off. The skirmish was also slower pace, smaller in scale (Just player vs a few enemies). I also saw 2 games where the ground on a level has low quality texture (like... no texture :) ?) although everything else is quite refined. That kind of contrast made the game look ugly and unfinished.

But they are all work in progress, so the developers must be working hard to fix the issues now. Congrats to the folks behind Resistance. Keep up the good work.

Well you ve got a point but if AI, interactivity and physics is top notch super duper realistic everywhere except on the bulb I dont think I would have trashed the game's physics, AI and interactivity just for one bulb :p

Hopefully the bulb becomes breakable in the final release, I just hope B3D doesn't have to incur your wrath if you find another devastating flaw.
