Resistance: Fall of Man gameplay impressions

Okay. Well can you at least tell me about how you feel about the motion tilting controller?
I will, I have never used/seen/touched one of this new controllers yet :)

Well exactly...which is why people probably shouldn't proclaim these games AAA hits based on a little bit of gameplay footage. This reminds me way too much of the hype black recieved before release.
Well I guess we shouldnt get excited about heavenly sword, too human, or table tennis. Since because, as you say, we have only seen a little bit of gameplay footage. I think you get what im saying, It's just you like it or you dont here I suppose. And basically, the reason why I'm so excited for this game is I like the way it is, and I like the sound of where it's going.

Btw, I happen to enjoy Black alot, never did get around to beating the last level though. But thats another story.

Not to rain on parade, but I've seen nothing to indicate this is anything more than a mindless shooter. Certainly nothing to suggest it will be a AAA title. Graphics will be par for the course this holida, and I don't think it's so easy to capture the great cinematic gameplay that infinity wards was able to capture in COD2 (a mindless shooter that actually worked)

Insomniac's pedigree is the only reason I'm holding out much hope for this game.

Wow, are you like the PS3 excitement police around here?

People saw your 1st post about the "mindless with a capital M" ? So why do you feel the need to bring it up again? Your 1st negative post didn't attract enough attention. Why are there people like you on every board.

It's not about not getting excited, it's just about keeping that excitement in check. In other words, lets not get carried away.

btw: FPS are a little different, there weren't 20 games like HS release last year, it's unique. FPS's have been done to death.

This could turn out to be Sony's first big online shooter for PS3.

If the MP component is well implemented and balanced, It has potential to be a blast.

Edit: Dang! I just noticed, 32 players online?! :D

I'll still miss the rumble feature though for knowing when I'm getting hit by bullets. :???: but maybe they can implement a gyro feature into it?

I kinda doubt you said same thing with Gears of War...it is ok to be biased to certain developer but what u started is just going to create endless argument over and over.

Well.. why don't you just show me where I proclaimed GOW a smash hit AAA title. I've said I'm very impressed and excited about it, but I'm not jumping off the deep end like Mckmass over there...

Trust, I'm definately not getting carried away. Infact before e3, I was really wasnt that excited for this title, looked good, but not what I'm feeling right now. Infact, I was actually worried there wouldnt be more variation in weapons, gameplay modes, and villans to fight. I truly am geniunely excited for the game after learning more about it.

Some could argue every genre has been done to death. Some could argue HS is another god of war, ninja gaiden, or n3 in some ways. But obviously its not, It's all about the execution of the idea. HS seems to be a completely amazing new concept the more you learn about it. And as I have said, the more info im finding about Resistance, the more I'm starting to love it.

I dont feel I'm getting carried away with anything.

By critical FPS standards Black was pretty poor. Not saying a lot of people did not enjoy it of course, but it definately is lacking in a number of areas. That said, the huge EA marketing push made it a sales success.

We tend to forget when talking about AAA titles that marketing is pretty vital. For that reason alone Resistance has a good chance at great sales. If it is as good as Insomniacs general quality then it could be a great title and important sales success (AAA depends on the definition... without knowing more I would not make a guess at it being a system seller). Of course it could be overhyped like KZ for the PS2 ;)

Ok, it already has shown to be better than that. Like I said, it looks like a step up from CoD2. Should be good. Lets see if gamers can identify with the vision.

I didn't say u proclaimed GOW a smash hit..it is just that there are people impressed and excited with this title just like you are impressed with gears of war..what you brought up is just going to start endless argument

I saw this game showcased on E3 Live today and the dev said that the based a lot of the architecture on real locations including the underground fortesses in Europe.

They were very serious about post WW2 being the setting for the Sci-Fi.

the HD version does look better, than my first impression. The gun models and smoke effects are great.

I'll give you that. Black was pretty mindless, but that doesnt mean I didnt have a fun time playing it. This is really another story though.

Tap In this game will have the gyro feature in it.

If you had fun that is the only thing that matters ;) That is why we play, to have fun. Mindless games, if well executed, can be great fun. Some of the best games ever are "mindless". Glad you liked Black.

point is people in this thread are already proclaiming this to be a smash hit, and i'm just saying it's too early for that.

Wow, 60 fps it is then... now this is what will most likely make me put this game above all other fps at the moment. 60 fps is just in its own league and as the gameplay footage shows of quite nicely - the game/controlls seem to be very tight, precise and smooth. This could very well be the TimeSplitters + realistic graphics of next generation!

I agree with all the positive comments about this game. That 720p trailer really pumped up my excitement!

I remember you were quite fond of the TS series;-) Me too. BTW, have you cheked out Free Radical's next gen effort, Haze? http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=139594 Seems a bit meh right now, but I always trust Free Radical Design after the multiplayer glory that is TimeSplitters 60fps:D

Oh excellent - I wasn't actually aware that they had a next-generation title in the works yet. Just checked out the screens and looks fine enough for me. I can't say though that I'm a huge fan of TimeSplitter series - I more just loved Free Radical's priorities and design choices when it came to framerate and graphics. IMO, one of the few [FPS] teams that got their priorities right - and as it turned out, I spent a lot of time simply enjoying the feel and smooth gameplay TimeSplitters gave compared to i.e. KillZone. I would have loved a TimeSplitters type game (solid 60 fps engine) with KillZone type of setting and Resistance seems to be heading in that direction, hopefully.

I'll be keeping an eye out for Haze though. Nothing beat the multiplayer fun I had with TimeSplitters. :D
