PS3 sales

Seriously, pick one up off ebay. You can find some GREAT deals.

I just hate to reward these dudes who snag the consoles off the shelf when they have no interest in the games. I live in SF, and I figure the Playstation store HAS to always get the lion's share, so I'm calling every morning for shipments. Hopefully I'll get lucky.

If you find a great deal as RobertR1 suggests, it's unlikely that these guys are being rewarded. I doubt they're getting PS3's at below retail price. Once you add tax and the amount of time these guys had to wait in line to pick one up, I don't think they'll be happy with any sale where they're not making $200 profit.

Personally, I'm pretty shocked at the relatively low eBay prices also.

Playstation store is suppose to be getting regular shipments.

One guy said try to get to the store before opening. Sometimes there are lines.

But the last thing I need is some pissed off profiteer angry that he did not make a killing sending me a PS3. At this kind of price, I prefer a store receipt in hand. If there's any problems with it, I'll give it to my wife to take care of. Before we got married, she took in her broken Playstation for exchange. They would have made me send it in for repair, but they exchanged it for her the store.

I see these posts about PS3s available everywhere, and I think that I can finally pick one up. But there ain't jack ANYWHERE!!! What the hell do people do? ... waste their frickin' lives calling up every electronics store in morning to get a PS3 count so that they can slam Sony in the evening? There may be supplies when the door opens, but I can assure u that if u wait until the afternoon, they're ALL gone. I'm still holding out hope that I can pick one up for Christmas, but I aint camping out for the doors to open.

eDoshin, the carriers usually show up around noon. So sometimes you get to see fresh PS3 @ 11:30am (I just missed a 60Gb by 30 seconds). I still feel that Best Buy is the best option since they open late @ 10:00am and seems to be getting more shipment than others (Playstation Store aside).

The PS3's off ebay come with the receipt so they carry the full warrany and all that. Trust me, it's not a bad deal and really, a lot of them are losing money if you take into accout their time and resources spent on obtaining them, then having to pay ebay and paypal fee's on top of that.

As for me, my PS3 just arrived at the office :)
60GB with Resistance and an extra controller for $800 shipped. I can't beat that.

I also have an extra 20GB that I'll need to get rid of now :(

Send me the 20GB ;) it's all I want anyway...using as a Blu-ray Disc player

Just the last ended auctions of the Wii I pulled up. $550, $510, $530. You can get a 20GB PS3 model off ebay $550. I think this is quite telling. Once supply gets better, watching the PS3 sales figures should be very interesting to say the least.
Holy cow! They've gone up. Just a few days ago, they were going for around $400-430. It's scary that people are willing to pay for a Wii almost as much as a 20GB PS3 (probably scarier for Sony).

 That's insane! I wonder if Nintendo will force MS and Sony to some day adopt a Wii-esque controller.

I envision next gen, both Sony and MS will have something like it. Probably shaped closer to current controllers but detachable in the middle so you can play like Wiimote with nunchuk (but wireless between the 2 pieces), or play like current controllers.

Oh Yeah!!! I scored a 60 Gig PS3 at the Playstation store. Looks like they had a big shipment cuz they handed out a lot of stickers and the line was fairly long. Didnt expect that many people with the rain. I would have preferred to buy the console at Best Buy so that I can rack up some rewards point, but I'm not gonna take a chance.

Enjoy it!

And to all those new PS3 owners, post your PSN Username in the thread if you want (in the games section)!

They've been getting shipments regularly. Once I went there from San Jose because they said they had a good number of them.

It took me 30 minutes to park and they said I missed it by 30 minutes.:devilish:

It worked out tho, cuz I got one from the Sony Style at Stanford last week and I will get 6000 points (worth $60 in credit).

Unfortunately, I have to wait until after Christmas before I can open "mine" .. this is on my daughter's Christmas list, so I get to be a hero and give the ultimate present, but still get a PS3 to enjoy. Luckily it will be a LONG time before she's off to college (prob be PS5 by them) so I don't have to worry about her moving out with it.

I have a Sony credit card, and purchasing a Sony product gives you 3x reward. I think I have about 38,000 points right now .. that's after I cashed in on a 32" television last year (not LCD or Plasma at 380,000 points obvisouly).

Actually, they give you 5 points for each $1 at Sony Style stores and sonystyle.com.

But this month, they're running a promotion of 10 points for each $1.

I was hoping that the Playstation Store at Metreon was part of this promotion, because I think they're owned by Sony (I called Sony Style SF and they referred me to the Playstation Store, which has a number just one digit off).

But they couldn't verify they would give me 10 points so it worked out, even though it was looking like Playstation Store was getting all the shipments for awhile.

38,000 is sweet. I only have about 14,000 not counting the 6000 I will get with this.

A couple of years ago, I bought an XBR for $2000 so I could have had at least 6000 more points (I bought it at Circuit City for $500 off list price).

Can you use the points to shave total costs? I was always under the impression that you had to have the full number of points and purchase the item in full. I'm gonna save up for a new Bravia then. I actually made my redemption online .. and they totally screwed up the shipment. Some 3rd party neverheardofthem shipping company messed up the shipment, and it took months to resolve. I found out that I could just walk into a store and pay for the same item, and then fill in a redemption form. I had redeemed a 20" XBR online, but got a 32" XBR for the same price at Best Buy.

Its hard to imagine that the Playstation store is not owned by Sony, but u never know. Its kinda ironic that the Sony Metreon used to have a Microsoft store that went out of business .. or at least shut down.

Sony should just forget about the 20 Gig version for now. Luckily all they had was 60s .. didnt seem like anyone in line wanted a 20. Eventually, when the units stop flying off the shelves, the more cost conscious consumers will look for lower priced versions. But right now, everybody just want the max value for their dollar. After you spend 500, it seems like such a waste to not dig out 100 more.

I just sent a purchase credit redemption form in. You can print it out from the Sony Rewards site, or sony.com/sonycard. It shows your points balance.

So they'll give me a credit for whatever my points are worth when they process it. It may take 2 months.

When I bought my PS2 back in 2000, I got $160 credited for the purchase.

About how many people got a PS3 with you?

I'm horrible at estimating a crowd, but I would have to say that there were about 20 people in line. I got there about 45 minutes after they opened, so a good number probably went thru already, and then when I left, there was a line that was just as long as when I first got there. They were handing out stickers and said anyone who had one was guaranteed to pick up a console.
