[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

This is the biggest fault of LBP IMO. Much as I wish they had kept to the original game design of creating in-game, the physics solution has created a lot of frustration and killed a lot of gameplay momentum for the wider audience and what has done most to limit sales and interest. If a choice between launching with a more traditional platform mechanic, certainly in the jumping, or launching with in-game creation, I think the former would be the better option.

This may tie back to the KZ2 control scheme discussion. Most users may prefer direct and responsive control of their puppet with little physics strings attached.

Could actually be easy to solve. They just have to make something like the flying modifier that instead gives magno-boots or sticky boots or whatever. That wouldn't break compatibility.

I played a bit more this weekend. I'm on the stage after the Bride/Wedding/Darkness stage. I haven't downloaded any levels yet, but plan to after the 1st of Feb.

I like the graphics and gameplay, but I am mildly/moderately annoyed with the gameplay. I think the main reason my wife is having so much trouble with the game is the jump/grab mechanics--she finally passed a level in the 2nd stage (I think) last night, but then gave up again on the ghost level.

I am contemplating getting a 2nd controller so that the wife and I can finish those co-op sections of the game--it really gets it right with the 100% completion of every stage component.

Edit: I meant I like the graphics and audio, I am mildly annoyed at the gameplay.

Yeah, keep at it. She will get used to the grab trigger. At least my son did, and later, went on to assist me like a pro.

Also, co-op in this game is rather fun. But sometimes it can get annoying if the level designer is not experienced enough.

Will do...I'm not sure if the wife will, but it's one of the few games that we can play together so maybe that will encourage her.

I finally bought the game. i made my first level ("l'arbre Roi" in french) but my last project is a mystic square puzzle 5x5 format

LBP-TaquinFinal.jpg

Level: "Mystic Square Puzzle (Taquin)"
ID: Upsilandre

Complex machine, physic engine is very stressed
- 717 Magnetic switches/keyes
- 544 Pistons/Winches
- 600 Wires
13 % of this budget for the programmable fairy lights (with 8 different animations sequences + ON/OFF states )

Holy crap! Will test this out very soon, looks awesome.

Finally? What kept ypu?! I bought the PotC pack today. The water works very well and adds some superb puzzle elements. Although I find the control can be frustrating. And I had forgotten how infuriating the ordinary jumping around trying to get to places is too.

So can we just call you a LBP creation Deity, because WOW!!!!!

Jesus Christ. I forecast people's progresses and future achievements all the time. The LBP creator gods have consistently beat my wildest dream, year after year.

Quaz51, I have a question for you because I am very very puzzled.

I remember the PSN id Upsilandre was also used to create and upload LittleBigComputer:

... and now the "Mystic Square Puzzle" level was also uploaded using the same ID. Is Upsilandre a group of people ?

LBC was made during the one of the betas or am I remembering wrong?

Upsilandre it's my ID
i made Calculator during the 2008 october Beta (and bought the game recently, one years after this Beta) but i prefer my Mystic Square Puzzle

I see. Surprised to hear you only bought the game recently. ^_^

In my mind, you're standing at the top of that LBP pyramid. Where are those creator crowns Media Molecule gave away a few months ago. They need to make one more.

Game Changer Competition

In case someone missed this like I did:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/01/be-a-littlebigplanet-game-changer-and-earn-up-to-50000/

You can head on over to the updated Game Changers Competition details page to get the full download, but in a nutshell:

The MacArthur foundation will be accepting submissions for levels / proposals combining an engaging gaming experience with principals of STEM learning.

There are 10 different categories, where winning submissions can earn up to $50,000 in production / development grants.

I'm pretty excited for this weekend. I'll have FOUR DAYS to basically let my mind go wild in LBP. I've got some ideas brewing, and I've been building a bunch of objects so I can basically create stuff easily and quickly.

1 Day left to enter... If I'd known earlier I may have had a go. I have already used LBP teaching some aspects of primary maths.

Yeah, could have been a nice opportunity to do some co-op level creation too.

Oh well, in other news, LBP is getting game-launching for Home today.
