[PS3] LittleBigPlanet Impressions

Doh, down. Then I can't recall that unless it is the Bunker, which is going down (with gravity) and I think it has at least four layers.

I consider myself an average gamer and I completed this game much quicker and "easier" than R2. I don't feel the controls are to hard, its easy to compensate where you need to etc.

I vaguely remember some nefarious wheels for going up the level.

... but for the life of me, I can't remember going down in 6 wheels. Usually it's just free fall or squeezing through 2-3 sectored wheels.

I remember (if it is the same). At first I thought it was impossibly hard, especially because you can't see where you are going. This was until someone pointed out to me that in this section you can actually grab some of those wheels so you can take your time getting the timing right and look where you jump. The 'death-wheel' can also be seen as six rings (of hell) though. ;) There too though grabbing some of the cloth here and there really helps. It's just a part of the mechanics that are unique to LBP and that are easy to overlook in terms of usefulness.

I too think the difficulty of later levels were just right considering how short story mode is. Earlier levels however were boring as hell, save for grab wheel sections.

I also think jumping is not bad once you get used to it (and sackboy physics) but this makes it even less causal friendly. It's not casual friendly, it's certainly not hardcore friendly being unconventional and a bit laggy, I really wonder why they did that. It's at best network friendly. Anyway, I still expect easier jumping boots under "character enhancement" in toolbag. This sections is pretty much empty currently.

I can understand some of the trouble with the controls. But it might be possible that some of it is screen lag too. I had zero control issues playing this game at home since beta. Took a trip to see some family and played it with them and noticed unbearable timing issues between my controller input and my character reacting. Turned off all the TV post processing (turned on game mode) and fixed er right up. If you think there's too much delay...there might be.

I didn't think it might be the TV

I'll take a look tonight, thanks for the reminder that the display device has a role in things.

I played R2 all night last night, but the level is in some type of mines. Now that Arwin mentioned it, I never thought of trying to grab onto any of the wheels. DOH! I could of swore I tried, but I must of tried on one of the wheels that was metallic or something.

Now I'm very scared about the Bunker level.

In regards to user created levels, I definitely want to check some out. I am very concerned over build quality and I don't have much patience just random downloading and playing. When I do get around to it, I will take a look at those threads you posted DrJay and see if people can do the guinea pig thing for me.

I was help Jaeyden play test his new level last night, it always amazes me what people can do with a tool set, stuff beyond the developers.

I also got to play co-op with my RL friend last night, great fun trying to get 100% on the levels.

This game is my GOTY for 2008, nothing comes close to it addictive nature and variety of fun.

Edge gave it GOTY, and it could win this one as well. http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/formats/xbox360/2008-gamezine-game-the-year-vote-now-$1254820.htm

I really appreciate the feedback too (Got your PM). Made a few changes and hopefully I'll be done soon. I feel like I bit off more than I can chew with this one, I've spent way more time on it than I thought I would. From now on, I'm sketching out my levels and puzzles BEFORE I start building them.

I've finally uploaded my first level which has not gone down well! It's just a quick one I did last night, took about 3 hours (mostly due to the learning curve)...but it'd be nice if people would say why it's rubbish/frustrating/pointless :(

It's monsterkong for those interested (I'm goonergaz BTW)...it will only eat a couple of mins of your time, I'm just trying to make retro style levels, quick and simple ones...until I am confident to go for something bigger and better.

* Non-MGS Level Pack owners can PLAY the MGS Story Levels by joining a “host” who owns the pack and play the levels online together. Now you won’t be able to keep any objects, but you can have tons of fun just PLAYing.
* MGS Level Pack owners will be able to CREATE levels with any of these items (including the Paintinator) and SHARE them online for everyone to play.

So much sweetness for $5.99, can't wait for it. Keep it up MM/Sony!

Can't view the trailer (at work) but have seen pics and game posters from Mm, and it looks completely awesome. I will purchase this.

Hm... it gets even better: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/19/sack-it-to-me-the-holiday-edition/
Very diligent work. I'm impressed !!

Patch 1.06

Moderation
Good news on this front - The latest update (1.06) brings in some much requested changes to LBP’s moderation system. While the rules of what is and is not acceptable content for people to share have not changed, we have listened to your feedback and have made the following changes :

* Moderated levels will now receive more better information about the reason regarding this action having happened.

* The notification message will remain in place on screen, removing the chance that affected users miss the message.

* Any moderated level can now be accessed for editing by the creator, whether on or offline.

* Additional information is now displayed on the Good Grief screen advising users on how the grief reporting functions, and warns against making spurious reports

These changes, coupled with additional work behind the scenes should alleviate most of the issues that creators have experienced with the moderation system, and there is more to come in the new year. While the number of levels that have been moderated is less than 0.1% of the number that have been created and shared overall, we recognize that better communication is essential and we’ll continue to improve the system in response to your feedback.

An explanation of what constitutes unacceptable content to be shared can be found in the game’s End User License Agreement (EULA) which may be read at any time via the Settings menu in the game, however we recommend you follow these general guidelines :

* Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages - everybody has access to your level if you publish it.

* Please respect other people’s intellectual property rights. For example, don’t use images, brands or logos that you’re not entitled to use.

If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behavior.
