"Proper" MGS4 Teaser on PS3 confirmed for TGS

I dunno, the MGS2 trailer didn't show up till about a year after the PS2 was out, right? Even longer, I would imagine, so I question how impressive it will be. I dunno how much of a grasp they have on the hardware yet. We'll see something great, but I wonder how impressive it will be compared with later games. MGS2 still holds up, but I dunno how well MGS4 will.

The first [teast] trailer of MGS2 was shown a few months before PS2 launch in North America, IIRC. Even then the game still had another year developement( although a playable demo came with Zone of the Enders which came out in mid 2001)...

Damn it, I want a next-gen Z.O.E :p

^Z.O.E 3...........

Interesting. Still looks awesome, but the full resolution images bring it down to earth compared with other next-gen stuff -- it looks good, but it's not that much better compared with the stuff we've seen already.

You can see all the normal mapping, textures, and geometry in the full size shots -- no one's going to mistake these for Killzone 2 renders or any other sort of offline-render.

Holy Crap...it looks even better in those resolutions. You can clearly see aliasing (or is it something else). The close up of Snakes (?) face is much more detailed at that resolutio, at a lower resolution it seemed like the lines where like straight edges. The shot of Otacon you can see that the facial hair is some weird type of tecture and the neckline is kinda blocky. It truly does bring it down to earth though. Very nice shots!!

I can't wait to see the trailer.

Pretty sure Konami said ingame.

Edit: Did someone say Jaggies? I don't know, I think it looks slightly worse...

Wow the detail in snakes suit is amazing. But yeh what the hell is up with those jaggies? I thought this is supose to be next gen where jaggies are a thing of the past?

Yeah..you can see the jaggies all over the place. What I like about it though is that more detail is shown (as opposed to the magazine scans). But as aaaaa00 said, it brings the images down to earth (they have imperfections).

Could the the jaggies be due to the image scaling? Also why do the background textures look like something out of mgs3?

Thats what people are saying in the other MGS thread. I wonder where these pictures came from.

Again, I must say the textures aren't really doing it for me... They look so ugh. Look at Snake's suit or Otacon's shirt.

Now some of you probably feel bad after seeing the video. Well you win some you lose some.

why, because he made some pretty cinematics with the ps3? It looks good, but c'mon lets not go overboard.

look, at this point... everything is starting to be an excuse.

im full with it... if its pretty, its a Render. If its prettty and real-time, its cinematics.

i mean, come on... you guys ever played MGS? the loss from Cutscenes to Gameplay is, none? yea, almost none.

cinematic view makes it interesting, but thats it... interesting. MGS goes from cutscenes to gameplay all the time with the same graphics. Gameplay is to be played, cutscenes is to be viewed. Graphics are the same in both.
i'm talking MGS here....

I think the problem is many of the critics in regards to the MGS trailer are from people that have never even played a MGS game, much less seen someone play it for a good amount of time. Can you honestly blame them?

Sadly, what's obvious to the experienced MGS player isn't for the rest (the obvious being that this real-time cinematic is giving a damn good representation of how the game will look and feel like when playing) - and there's really no way to prove otherwise. Everyone will see what they want to see. It's best to ignore and move on.

I did say it looks good. My point is the reaction to it, people arguing about little things. It looks, no matter the platform is on.. some people just dont act that way.. like they praise the MGS4 movie and then they say Gears of War does not look good.
In the graphics department both look great imo. I guess I get tired of everything always being a sony vs ms thing.
