Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

Jeff_rigby - dear god. He jumps to conclusions on the slightest internet "evidence" fits his confirmation bias even if 90% of the stuff he posts has nothing to do with anything relevant for these consoles

That's the point, it's a random internet guy asking a question and then it's Rigs jumping to conclusions that it fits in with next-gen consoles. Of course it could be worse, it could turn out Rigs is the random internet guy asking the question too.

Do devs already have Durango's beta kits? It seems so because lherre is instaling Visual Studio 2012 to do "something", and on another spanish forum a guy is saying he has friends with the beta kits.

According to the latter's words the beta kits have a hardware inside that supposes a jump, but hardcores won't be specially pleased.

Price, power consumption, heat out put and availability.....
They can probably use the mobile version no? Regardeless how you slice it, they can get over 3TF performance if they really want to. I hope the APU is advanced enough to provide 1TF and then the discrete GPU around 3TF. We still don't know what their modifications will achieve. I'll wait for some more concrete info to speculate further. Just hope both companies provide beasts with future proofing in mind.

Saw this in neogaf

Well, back in November the #2 AMD China guy also said both will likely coming 2014,not 2013,with Durango a little better than PS4(but Durango>PS4 just a guess from durango and PS4 team's private communication, because according to #1 AMD china guy,AMD don't allow one team go to another team for "reference",unlike IBM:LOL:.So maybe actually both power are very similar.)
The next-gen PlayStation is currently on shedule. So all the "oh, looks like it's gonna be delayed" stuff isn't true.

This could possibly mean that large chunk of hardware will be carved off to be used by OS, various 3rd party background services, Kinect2 or maybe some exoteric AR/VR processing or 2nd screene experiences [glasses, projector that turns room walls into game world, advanced Project Glass which streams resource heavy game data...]. We kinda expected that already.

Don' think that will effect the Durango hardware, and #2 AMD guy said Kinect 2/V2/2.0/whatever will have standalone version, that means it will not be required for Durango(if what he said is true).

Plus has any hardcore(from internet) ever pleased Microsoft hardware?

Anyway i bet the Durango OS will use less power than PS4 OS

A mobile 8900 is only a 8800 series GPU with the 8900 name on top.

And mobile parts are even more expensive then the desk top parts so that still wont help.

Fast mobile CPUs/GPUs are binned for power efficiency, so they're basically hand picked and 'special'.

Any chips for a mass market console must fill up as much of the normal curve as possible to lower cost and improve yields. Consequently, these chips will be decidedly normal as far as power efficiency is concerned. I doubt we'd be seeing Sony/MS venturing much beyond the performance-power curve of a low end m-ITX system, and I'd be surprised if silicon TDP even breaks 150W.

So China AMD guy deleting all his posts with the juicy info. Guess he is legit then?

"Console will use 285W of power"

Old xb360 used external AC adaptor which has 203W DC output, while gaming 185W AC input (found that figure somewhere), if we count 80% efficiency that is 148W DC and that is 73% of maximum (203W).

If we go with same 73% for next-XB, that is 208W average while gaming, if we subtract 58 W (?) for everything else, we are looking at around 150W for APU which is basically TDP.

Only 150W left? How will my cat stay warm in the winter anymore :|

I think MS got spooked big time by RROD and igniting power bricks so they are taking every precaution this time. 20nm, single APU, etc.

Could you please put a link to the spanish forum. I have not problema reading spanish ;)

Probably, if it handles less functionality (using current gen as reference). Otherwise, I think it will be quite close.
