Predict: The Next Generation Console Tech

1tflop gpu power? Isn't too low?

I don't think so. I think a GPU with modern architecture rated at 1 Tflop raw compute power will probably give you 8-10X in real world performance over what is in the 360 today.

I think most agree that the next consoles won't have the raw compute capabilities of what PC will be able to do at the time (or even now). With that, I would say that consoles have to have a more advanced architecture/feature set than PC's. If that's DX12+, a theoretical Shader 6.x capability, or whatever, I think it's more important than raw compute.

I don't want a replay of the DX9 consoles vs DX11 for PCs because I think PC games have been gimped severely by the consoles as games are designed with consoles in mind first. The Crytek demo of Crysis 3 was the first time, I've seen what appears to be good DX11 support in a game and it's depressing that PC's have been capable of that for a long, long time now.

Can I just say it's bad form to go digging up and posting people's real identities across the web. Anonymity has an important part to play in some open discussions, especially when someone's wanting to talk about their business experience without having to have all their words passed through the company PR department.

If you feel someone's credentials need to be made public, please contact the member to 1) ask for confirmation (if they choose) and 2) give them the option to post their credentials without 'outing' someone that doesn't want to be 'outed'. Let's not start rumours that could land people into trouble. At the root of the leaks we all want are NDAs and employment law, which can't be taken lightly.

What happened?

Because the Xbox, PS3, and N64 all won their respective console generations.

only the xbox of those was actually most powerful, and it did shockingly well for itself considering all the circumstances.

anyways i'm not going to sit here and say things about durango because theres lots left and who knows what final machines look like, to say one is more powerful than other in totality just yet.

if ms is really going low powered though, as i've mentioned, they are in for a rude awaking. if you look at the company's track record of pretty much failing everywhere though, it might not be surprising.

Versus 1 GB Ram for games on the Wii-U.

>2x the gpu and cpu power, and >3x the ram will translate into a HUGE difference on screen.

we dont even know the wii u's flops. one recent rumor put it in the high 300's,. we also dont truly know durangos flops imo (as bg said, the only way to get specs on Wii U/Durango is for the programmers to push them, because they arent revealed anywhere, so any spec coming out may just be a major approximation with lots of error). lherre at least thinks the gap is big.

Someone probably mentioned something and the source they got it from, it was edited in case thats under NDA.

Well thats what I mentioned earlier. You can't target certain costumers with your product for 10 years, than drop the thing that is most valued by that same population, just so you can cheap out, but still think about getting them on board. That goes for every business as far as technology is concerned, even more so with consoles because Sony and MS are very dependent on 3rd party. If you don't deliver what they would like to see, and your competitor does, you are in trouble.

I wouldn't be surprised by any scenario, but such low powered one seems so unlikely. MS has good engineers who knew in what direction to go with hardware and that had good relationship with upper board of MS. Hell, Nick Baker even asked Ati for 64 ALUs on Xenos back in 2004. For them to settle for something so underwhelming 8 years after 360 would be a shame.

They are releasing Surface. Thats premium tablet if I ever seen one. Good build and great hardware under hood. Zune was the same, by far the best music player released as far as hardware go. Whatever they released was sophisticated at launch. Sudden change of tactic would be baffling (except if they don't bet house on Kinect and casual costumers).

we dont even know the wii u's flops. one recent rumor put it in the high 300's,. we also dont truly know durangos flops imo (as bg said, the only way to get specs on Wii U/Durango is for the programmers to push them, because they arent revealed anywhere, so any spec coming out may just be a major approximation with lots of error). lherre at least thinks the gap is big.
And to add, Iherre was specifically talking about GPU in comparison. He even mentioned bigger than generation leap on one Spanish forum. I still firmly believe he has good info as he has proven track record.

So...this is definitely Durango. And that little troll had it...

What a peculiar PSU. Is that a server-type design?

The circled stuff is just silly to point out. It's more noteworthy that there's a USB3 expansion and dual slot GPU. :p
RS232 & IGP are the futar

Assuming this is what it's claimed to be, somebody dun goofd. The MS asset tag is visible, and legible. The alpha kit in question has probably already been recalled. Someone is going to get the boot.
Well, its the same as DeA's and that was "confirmed" to be real. That Supermicro chassis costs "small fortune". Don't really think anyone would fake it.

For what is worth it, one GAF member mentioned his contact got kits last month. He said "big black server" PC case with Kinect slot in the back.

Anyone know what the card with the 4 blue ports could be, doesn't look like USB ports.

edit: USB3.0 I take it then.

So...what do we have here? 720W power supply, possible Intel CPU, usb 3, dual GPU slot and couple developers confirming its true. Sounds solid.
