Official GT5 discussion thread

I have made some of my drivers available online. Feel free to add me as a friend to use them (Please add b3d to the message though). I also have some decent cars waiting to be gifted if anyone just starting out wants them.

Think I have the C4 WRC and Montoya Nascar available.

Gentlemen, GT Academy has started! Current UK best is 2:18.something...........I'm currently sat @ 2:25.068. Very tricky course and car. Got to be very smooth.

Well, can't afford anymore time in the Academy so i'm left with a 2:21.952. 282nd in the UK and 1228 for all regions. I really thought i could win the whole thing........get the girls, money, fame, tabloid lies etc etc. oh well.

So finally picked up this game, been playing it through the weekend, it's really mixed-bag for me.

Lets start with graphics, I really don't understand why global lighting need to lead to global shadow. Nice looking shadow can be faked easily, PD must have some OCD programmers or something. Standard cars only look bad on replay shots, once in gameplay (bumper cam) it's hard to tell the difference. Frame rate is awful, 60 fps is only happens when you are in the lead and even then it can have hiccups, when you're racing in pack forget it. There seems to be standard and premium circuits going on too. Classic tracks like Trial Mountain and Deep Forrest look like utter crap compare to newer ones.

Now Game progression, I really don't like the level system they introduced. It makes the game feel more grindy than necessary. For example after certain levels, the game prompted that the Nascar thing is unlocked, (ignored it, Nascar is boring yeah), after more levels it promted again that more of it is unlocked. Alright give it a go, After watching a talking undead, I am trying out Nascar in GT. Sense of speed was awesome, but yeah as I thought gold are pretty easy to get even with DS3. So after 15 minutes or so golded beginners and inter than clicked on advance, prompted with Level 21 requirement, I was like WTF. Just as I was enjoying certain part of the game, it is telling me you're not good enough, play elsewhere. Why PD Why ? After 2 days of playing I am still on Level 20, and not having fun.

As for driving physics they felt alright, felt like previous GT games, don't see much improvement, but then again I'm only level 20, it'll be awhile to level 40 if I can gather enough interest to get there.

On the side note Top Gear track is really over hype, it looks fun on TV with Clarkson commenting, but the track layout is really pos and not much fun. I was doing the S-license and hit top gear track, that's when I stopped and turned the game off.

But lets end this on high note, on one of the ancient race in expert, driving the old Ferrari in first and saw the rear view mirror a car that looks like space craft closing in, gripping the road like crazy as hard as I tried to block it, the Ferrari was no match, as it passed by and saw two freaking big fans at its back, I was like that's 2J, WTF is it doing in the race, I thought the car was banned. Oh well that was awesome moment in my 2 day play of GT5.

I might grind to get the F1 cars and RB X1, since that's the only reason I'm playing this game to check those cars out. But yeah big disappointment for me.

Playing with DS3, can't easily setup wheel at the moment. Was thinking of getting the T500 to replace the G25 but now, I just don't know. I'll grind slowly till I get those F1 and X1 cars and I'll see. But man I am not having fun. Freaking Ridge Racer 7 has better game progression than this. And in that game when you get a new car they bring it in nice looking trucks or choppers while in GT, it is just a black background. Loads a hell lot faster too.

Yeah the wheel is a whole different story. Especially with all assists off. It probably has the best physics on a console sim. I immediately got hooked with it whereas with the controller I dont feel like I am driving and get bored of it.

With the controller you dont experience the real deal because you dont get much of a feedback from it. I use a G25. Until I get the hang of it with certain cars on certain tracks, I often get myself being afraid of accelerating when using the wheel. Especially in the Nurburgring, where the road is tight. But get it right and you are immersed. The driving experience is top notch.

Yeah loves the driving part, I actually enjoy the Nascar event and looking forward to full fledge race somewhere down the line (when I level enough "sigh"). As for wheel setup, I've to see what I can do, I really don't want to clutter the room with a racing rig, the room is supposed to be for PS Move, so I want it sort of free.

Lvling is a bitch, especially if you don´t enjoy the journey. Make sure you play the seasonal events as they provide XP boost, take the driver licenses etc...

And if you expect to drive a Ferrari F1 within a few days return the game you will be driving lots of other cars before you get to that one.

And before you can enjoy the racing you need to lvl enough to be worthy of the races :)

The first F1 i got was the PD F1, it´s only 5 million :)

Yep did the Licenses and stuff, I sort of completed most of the A spec up to Level 20 in two days. Nearly hit 21, if I didn't hit the Top Gear track in S-license I probably already few more level up.

Well I only bought a Mini and the ancient Ferrari, just uses the cars that I've won from completing races. My plan is once I hit Level 24, I'm going to sell all my garage and hopefully have enough to get one of the Ferrari F1. Haven't decide which yet.

What Level are the races that allows F1 ?

What level can you get that one ? I got more than 5 mil after 2 days worth of playing. I don't think money is a problem for me, it's the freaking level, now it really feels like playing JRPG. Grind grind and grind.

The Top Gear track isn't a race track for fun races. It's a test track, with a lot of famous cars and times for comparison - that's where its appeal lies.

LVL 24 is enough to buy the PD F1 car, you find it in the online collectors shop for 5 million.
And you need it for the F1 races at lvl 23(?) in the extreme series.

The ferrari f1 cars are limited to pure ferrari f1 races afaik. So watch it with those :)

Hey,
If you need someone to race with or b spec drivers please add me : jostepop

On to other things, 4 million at 24? Im 24 and got like 1.6 mill. But truth be told I bought alot of cool cars! so many to buy, and since what you can buy used is random (AFAIK), I buy anything cool that is reasonably priced! Lots of fun cars to drive, today I found a caterham fireblade for like 40 k or something. tuned it to 255hp/ 369 kg lots of fun with no traction and crap tires! It's no veyron but it's good.

Love the game although some parts feel unfinished! Qualify difference between premium tracks and cars vs standard is big! I don't care.

Is there anything that is "road"( not a race car) legal and can beat a tuned veyron? So far my closest is a zonda r, but the veyron seems to be in a class of it's own.

1245hp/1400kg or whatever is ridiculous!

Ps: Tommy kaira zz2 is sweet. Bought one for 50k used, more than 800hp, less than 1000 kg tuned!!!

Yeah, I have fond memories of that ZZ2 from GT3 ... nice ride!

I went in to harvest my B-spec's drivers toils and troubles, and what do you know - they grossed a nice 200k each. :D Fun to get nearly half a mil for doing nothing. Nice going, (mostly, though not exclusively) Eyes! Also bumped one of my drivers from 17 to 24 and the other from 0 to 20 ... :)

I also noticed that the Academy race is up, so will probably want to try that one sometime soon (maybe tomorrow, have a day off with nobody around) and also could finally see that the friend filter works in the online time trials, as akesson showed up. ;) About 4 seconds faster, but I haven't tried yet in the RC 07, which I've only just purchased (and still have to upgrade), so I might be able to get a little closer sometime soon ...

Game is in good shape, look forward to the next update so I can start working on some of the longer events. ;)
