The big problem Nvidia has is that they want FG to be the base performance metric as a means to justify moving the tech stack up to justify the price. FG is a bonus features as a selling point of the 40x0 series. To many it will be a great selling feature, but advertising it as a baseline performance indicator for the GPU is just fraudulent.

As Steve points out, the original plan was to release the "4080" at $900++ that barely had any generational improvement over the 3080.

Very efficient card.
The best part about the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card is its mind-boggling efficiency which blows everything away. The RTX 3090 Ti consumed anywhere between 400-500W and this card offers the same kind of performance or even better at just 200-250W which is simply impressive. NVIDIA's Ada architecture truly shines when it comes to GPU efficiency and the competition is simply nowhere close to what the green team has achieved this gen with the TSMC 4N process.

No, it is okay. Most games - okay not AMD paid one - will come with DLSS 3. And in these games the 4070 TI will be much faster. AMDunboxed wont test them with DLSS 3. Here is an example from Spider-Man:

I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or not with this.

Ray tracing puts it 9% faster than the 7900XT with Techpowerup noting the performance drop when enabling RT is larger than other RTX4000 series cards.

Hopefully this prommpts a price drop for the 7900XT.

It's typically on par with or slightly slower than the RTX3090ti with ray tracing enabled so we can kind of work backwards for the rest of the RTX4000 GPU's.

RTX4070 = RTX3080/3080ti
RTX4060ti = RTX3070ti/3080
RTX3050 = RTX3060ti/3070?

So how would you advertise it?

Clearly my favorite of the new 40 series. Reasonable specs and power draw. And feels future proof.
I would recommend this, if somebody would still ask me what GPU to buy for an upgrade. Which rarely happens these days.

Well, i hope it helps to lower prices of older gen GPUs. Still eyeballing a 6800, but not willing to pay more than 500 eur...

Cope some more.

This card is the icing on a turd-filled cake for this generation. Both Nvidia and AMD need a hard slap to the face for releasing cards at these stupid prices.

You may have been surprised by our statements on value for money (PLV) after introducing this article, but the numbers prove it: In the current high-price environment, the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti has a good PLV. Let's be honest, this is an easy undertaking in addition to various graphics cards for four-digit euro sums, but deserves explanatory words. First, let's look at PLV in rasterizing (orange bar). Here, the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Geforce RTX 4070 Ti are at eye level - provided that the market price for the AMD card does not drop even further and the Nvidia GPU is actually available from 900 euros. If, on the other hand, the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is offered for 1,000 euros (without factory overclocking), the price-performance ratio suffers massively - and still exceeds that of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090.
...
Apart from that, there are not many alternatives to the Geforce RTX 4070 Ti. The Radeon RX 7900 XT is on average 12 percent faster in rasterizing, but costs at least 1,000 euros and requires about 20 percent more energy. In fact, the price-performance ratio of the two graphics cards is equally good (or bad) in rasterizing, while the RTX 4070 Ti offers significantly more performance per euro in ray tracing. All alternative graphics cards are older and therefore have worse efficiency values, but are cheaper. You are spoilt for choice.
...
Long story short: The Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is more than the "one-eyed among the blind". This graphics card is fast, efficient and has everything you need to experience smooth gaming hours for the foreseeable future. It is by no means a bargain, but the definition of "inexpensive" is determined by everyone personally. If you can wait (further), there will probably be another chance for an affordable graphics card in a few months: with the Geforce RTX 4070 (Non-Ti).

It's same as last generation.

AMD offer a better price/performance ratio in raster and Nvidia offer a better price/performance ratio in RT.

So 10-25% faster than a 3080 for 15-20% more money. I can't wait to see how laughable the 4070 and below are. Either you're willing to buy a 4090 or don't bother this generation.
What if you didn't bother with the previous generation? (Like most people usually do.)
