My first reaction is that, if you're going to rely on VGChartz for one region, then you might as well take VGChartz for all of the regions, since VGChartz uses NPD and MC as inputs.

The graph is probably a fairly accurate mid-year snapshot. We know the sales picture is changing a lot in the last 4 months of the year. The PS3's best sales performance was early in the year due to MGS4 and later price cuts.

Lastly, since we are looking at VGChartz Europe/Other sales figures, you should check out the huge numbers for XBox 360 in "Others" this week on the VGChartz front page. It looks like fortunes have shifted in this region.

Vgchartz just recently began "adjusting" their 360 others figures in response to this following article (though theyd never admit it, the article hit various forums last week and vgchartz figures suddenly showed a major 360 spike the next week):

I prefer nextgenwar (or something close not sure of the name) when I search for a quick reminder of the overall figures.

You mean this site, which has Wii at 24 million? It looks like they haven't done anything to the site for a long time and their auto-update thing haven't taken account for anything that has happened, as their numbers are way off.

Well I should I said used to prefer... I haven't visit for a while and well...
 way off that's it.

Interestingly only the 360 is compliant with their prediction which means that at some point their system was OK.
But the pS3 as catch up in sales rate, and the Wii... they need a good update for sure

OK? I had a look a year or two ago , after MS mentioned the number of xbox360 consoles manufactured IIRC 10.4 million, + that site was showing ~13million xbox360's sold :)

"In the UK, we've sold more than double PS3's volume since the price drop in September."

The 360 is more than holding its own across much of mainland Europe too, notably in countries where Xbox has previously failed to capture the market share Microsoft would like.

"In Italy, we were double PS3's sales last week," Lewis added. "In France and Germany we are at or better than PS3 consistently now. We dominate in Russia and the Nordic countries and in Spain - a traditional Sony stronghold - we're now outselling PS3. It bodes incredibly well for our Christmas prospects."

Xbox 360 has now sold more than seven million units in Europe. That's what price cuts do for you, we suppose.

whoa, hadn't seen that info... price point looking good for Ms world wide...

The software numbers might be right, but that 6$ profit for each Wii is way off, it has to be much more than that per Wii.

I was thinking the same thing which is why I didn't highlight that part of the article.
Then again,$6 might not seem like a lot to us,but in an industry where you are traditionally hundreds in the hole to start with, that $6 ahead might represent a huge number relatively speaking.

Yeah $6 per Wii sounds a bit off to me as well. I mean let's not forget we're talking about a console that was designed and produced from the very beginning to be profitable. Now we all know Nintendo have been around in this game for along time, I find it hard to believe they would create a system from the outset to be profitable and only allows them to make $6 per machine. Now if we were to double that figure or perhaps bring it closer to the $15 mark then we may find ourselves a little nearer to the actual figure?

Of course $6 x 33 million or however many Wii's have been sold at this point is a serious amount of money but I just feel Nintendo would be looking to do better than that right from release day. Pure speculation on my part but here in the UK I reckon the RRP could drop to as low as £120 and still think there would be enough of a margin for all parties involved to make a profit.

In the gameindustry report they states that MS did 25% beter than last year.
Does somebody remind of last year NPD result for november?

I think they meant a 25% increase for just Black Friday, rather than the entire month, but here are Nov07 numbers:

PS2 496k
PS3 466k
PSP 567k
360 770k
Wii 981k
DS 1,530k

I think too that they just mean it for black fryday.
But I asked just to have a figure about how sales could look ;)

There's some info in this article about how much software Nintendo is expected to sell compared to 360 and PS3.
The $6 figure discredits the whole thing IMO. Seeing the introduction 'an analyst says', my reaction was 'this analyst is a chump' and I stopped reading. $6 is ridiculously low; I'd say $60 is probably too small a margin for what Nintendo make too! If not, they have the world's worst manufacturing contracts!

I don't think that article, that analysts' numbers, are any sane basis for discussion.

I would have believed it if the $6 referred to third party software titles, I guess. Or if this was true at launch, but now no longer. Otherwise, if this were true then Nintendo suck ...

Ergo, it's not true. :p Anyway, the article says in the same breath that MS *may* be breaking even now. Isn't it widely accepted that MS has been making (small) money in the last few months already?
