"No 1080p For PS3 Games"

I think there will definitely be some games putting 1080p to good use. Don't forget that we'll get downloadable games as well, some of which may be simply majong-type stuff, that would however still benefit from 1080p.

Also, the user interface will make good use of 1080p, the built-in browser will make good use of 1080p, and Linux (still have to see it to believe it, but I'm hopeful) will be able make good use of 1080p.

I, for one, am happy it's there, anyway. ;)

(By the way, my 100hz TV deinterlaces 576i to 576 but it's not quite the same, trust me.)

Filling more than twice as many pixels is 'very small'? Hmmm, can I borrow some money from you?

As I understand it they were comparing 1080p/30 vs 720p/60 in this discussion. The former requires more memory than the latter in GDDR3, but not more bandwidth. Right?

It sounds like you may be correct. Seems like something's missing tho. Why wouldn't MS just scream "1080p" right back?

Consumers are extremely misinformed. You have to remember that most people that bought 1080p TV's in the last 2 years probably don't even realize their TV's don't accept 1080p input!

I think it's the kind of thing that would just be too confusing to try and explain to your regular consumer.

For what it's worth, I play almost all PC games in 1080p and they run fine on a 6800GT. The only game I'm not running at that resolution is Titan Quest, and that game is a bit slow anyway, so really there's only a small difference in framerate between 1600x900 and 1920x1080. I don't think 1080p is really much of an issue for many games, particularly those that will not be pushing the limits of the system. Now, having said that, I expect only a handful of 1080p titles will be released -- perhaps something like 720p support on the Xbox at best.

There's probably small differences when watching movie content, hard to say since there is currently no 1080p content available, and a mere handful of TV's that support it. But for web browsing and the other things you mentioned I doubt there would be any difference at all.

No 1080p content? Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are 1080p. And one can easily output 1920x1080p (60 hz) from a PC.

Right, my bad. The discussion got a bit fragmented... ;)

.....Also, the user interface will make good use of 1080p,.......

exsqueeze me?

For crying out loud, where's the annotation for this link?! Is typing a sentence really too much work for you.

For those that want to know, this is a quote from a Sony Rep saying R:FoM is aiming for 1080p, although at the moment it's 720p. Which doesn't prove 1080p is possible, and may also suggest graphics aren't as great in stills because they're targetting a higher resolution.

There's still some debate wether VT is rendered in 1080p native or just outputted at the resolution.

Debate, sure, but SEGA would have a lot of nerve putting a 1080p Full HD sign up if they were faking it. Personally, I think it's no surprise at all - a game like Virtua Tennis is just not that demanding on the hardware in the first place. I would be very surprised if the game is actually very demanding on the system. I mean, compare what is going on here with a game like Resistance, in terms of physics, graphics, sound and so on, and you should see what I mean.
