All this proves is a Pixar movie will look great on a 720p display.

of course lol

but my point it's that it's easier to spot the difference on a fixed 24xAA image scaled two times than one that lasts 1/60th of a second and blend in your eye's retina with the prev and the next frame.
in other words, I think that a 720P image good scaled it's impossible to spot in a 1080P flow

How many times a second could Orbis/Durango fill a 1080P buffer I can't seem to fill rates in the net anywhere , nor do I know if it would take up a large amount of time to fill such a buffer. Trying to get the complete picture when comparing the two but Durango seems more effiecent
That would be related to the ROPS, and the rumored orbis has twice as many as the rumored durango.

From the vgleaks specs, that's theoretically ~6172 1080P buffers a second for durango, and 51.2GB/s bandwidth, assuming 32 bits per pixel. Twice that for Orbis.

(To put that in perspective, the rumored durango could write 6172 1080p buffers a second, and still have enough main memory bandwidth left over for an _entire_ Wii U's bandwidth. Not even touching the ESRAM)

And finally there's the wild card - SuperDAE, arch-leaker extraordinaire, undeniably in possession of early dev kits and the crucial documentation that goes with them. From talking with him directly in order to verify his leaks, we know his information - typically posted on vgleaks.com - is entirely accurate, the only question being how old it is, and whether the hardware has improved since he received his data.

so the secret "source" of vgleaks is superDAE, good to know for the guys who believes he's a troll or something like this
and maybe we're speaking about a very old infos, durango and orbis can be improved or maybe downgraded from those we're talking for

I smell we're talking about vaporware..

Welcome to the world of speculating on rumors and supposed leaks. :)

It may be true. It may not be true. It may be only partially true. It may not contain all the information.

And even when the information is correct, we may not have enough information. We may not know what purpose something will serve. May not know how that something will be used even if we have an idea of what it might be fore.

Hence, it's fun to speculate. Just try not to take any of it too seriously. :)

At least this time much of the consoles are based on off the shelf parts. So you can get a reasonable guess, assuming the rumored leaks are true, of what performance "might" be like. Which is definitely more than can be said about the current generation (PS3/X360) at launch. Pure numbers don't always tell the whole story, even when they are true.

Regards,
SB

The display plane setup, as rumoured, is meant for quality of service guarantees between the game you're playing and the OS. It is not a performance enhancement. They just want to make sure the OS appears responsive, and that OS overlays are always sharp and legible.

One layer is reserved for the OS but two are available for games, with dedicated hardware doing scaling, color space change etc. (if we can believe the vgleaks article)
You could do the same thing in software but that would waste a small portion of your resources and maybe add latency.

To make a comparison, here's an old 1GHz or faster PC struggling at playing flash video. The whole flash object is run in software so it has to do all the scaling, and braindead YUV to RGB. Maybe it plays a 360p video almost smooth in a small window, but put it fullscreen and it's jerky like hell.
Meanwhile, the same PC can show video of considerably higher quality in a real video player (say, decent 720p xvid or 480p h264). Every graphics card at least as smart as an Ati Rage Pro or a S3 Virge does the scaling by itself and accepts YUV as its input. The video never skips and is always smooth, no matter the window's size.

Durango and Orbis should be able to scale using the GPU efficiently.

Later versions of Flash video should support GPU scaling too.

This sounds interesting and important. People are used to iOS on iphone and ipad with super responsive OS...think about PS360 OS and from hearsay the Wuu OS...I don't think that this would be acceptable for next gen consoles.

But he is a troll, (albeit a troll with insider info) he was trolling on twitter that the specs he leaked to vgleaks are fake/old.
there're other "insiders" that are saying the same thing, those are the oldest specs and now the two machine going to be final, are a lot, not a bit, different from those

will be laughable if in the end durango is a Mars+ 2 Venus machine and we wasted 400+ pages of discussions for nothing

Why people say on one hand Durango is becoming awesome with so many custom chips and on the other wait for the specs to be old?.

@Xenio

DF actually said this, in that same article you quoted:

"In the case of the brush-strokes of the Durango and Orbis specs, not only do we have double-sourced information of our own, but we also have an extra form of backup in the form of these other leaks. Therefore, our belief is that the specs we are discussing are not only accurate, but very, very close - if not identical - to the make-up of the final hardware."

@superDaE Neogaf folks calling you now a Troll. They dont believe that Durango specs have changed.

@xJumPeR_JumPzZ I dont give two fucks, I've revealed more than any of those kiddies ever will.

first superDAE send old specs to vgleaks, then those specs spread around the web in other sites, forum (here too) and begun to be taken as truth, then superDAE says that those are changed a lot (and now we're on mass production) but nobody believes in superDAE anymore, only in the old superDAE

this is non-sense to me.
or you believe the whole guy, or you don't. at all

this is the guy of vgleaks:

@superDaE GAF aka the sony fanboy jackass forum is convinced Orbis is going to destroy durango in power, can you please offer a rebuttal?

@cryengine1007 Durango info released in past was old, which, when Orbis info came out, made Orbis look a whole lot better. Derp.

by insiders, do you mean yourself mistercteam?

when the discussion target is not the topic anymore, but a person, something is gone wrong
I'm not mistercteam, the worlds don't divide in sony fanboys and mistercteam clones, and I send my facebook profile in private if you have doubts, now you can leave personal attacks and try to seem smarter and elaborate on topic

Not when validity of the person as well as his info is actually an issue.

Given that SuperDAE has never said anything about the final hardware being mars + venus and the only person on the internet making such claims is mistercteam, forgive me if i become suspicious of you. And the fact that every single post of yours that i read is about Durango being better than people think, at first it was the move engines, now it will have a hardware upgrade for final kit

Im not a sony fanboy or a Microsoft fanboy, i could care less wich one has better specs, but it seems fairly obvious to me wich direction Microsoft is going. If there is a 2 teraflop Durango coming, then i would be more than happy. Can you say the same if the current specs are true?

sincerely I'm loosing interest in the "next generation" discussion as I see who is under the sources and old the infos are
I can't take console too seriously, I'm 40 and even I have some console, those are off all the time, and I don't play on pc either, but loving tech I just I'm curious to put a hand on future and deep tech that barely I can understand
I need some strong reasons to buy again a console, as power and graphics far ahead from those on pc right now (and maybe I'll buy 2 games or three, then some dust will cover the console)
just imagine how much can I care about it being sony or microsoft, just give me a reason to jump again on the boat; for this reason I will be disappointed by both if those will be the final specs, even 2 TF are nothing of special without some serious and elegant, innovative solutions to use those TF; I've just some hopes in microsoft because they can burn mountains of money in R&D and sony don't, the only thing that hurts me badly is when people forget that those infos can be very old and wants only to declare a winner, this is the stupid thing ever, remember how ended the old "it has double the TF!!!" thing? the mars + double venus that MCT is talking (imagining?) about is taken from some patents from microsoft, but who know how or when those will be real, maybe never, maybe soon, we are in the place where nobody knows, and if he knows, don't talks. simply as this
