I missed this somewhere, 2TB branded Xbox external HDD from seagate, $110, to be available soon at Gamestop etc...

Price doesn't seem bad, i think GAF posted a 2TB drive for Xbox for around $69 recently, but that was treated as a really good deal, so 110 might not be too bad.

I dont know, if I bought an external I might buy this just to feel more official. But then again, probably not.

Also, the green does not actually go with the console. Should have been black and just said Xbox on it or something to let you know it's official.

But this one says Xbox on it ...
oh then that's worth at least $30 more !

In all honesty its not a horrible price for an official component. A 500 gig Xbox one with this would be a 2.5TB system for just $120 and you simply have to plug it in. Its much better than having to install a hardrive which itself would be about $75-$100 for a 2TB drive 2.5 inch drive.

I think 5TB might be fine for this generation so I would go with the larger external drive setup.

Only bugaboo I see with that one is it's with an external power plug, not ideal. Much slicker to be powered by USB.
The dimensions suggest it's housing a 3.5" HDD which would explain the external power requirement. You can get 3.5" HDDs that can be powered from USB2 or USB3 but you need to pick your drive carefully.

The only way I'd consider the Seagate Game Drive over other similar cheaper drives is if it could store Xbox 360 AND Xbox One content on it at the same time. So far the wording says "Xbox 360 or Xbox One". So I don't think it does. The green color & official branding would go un-noticed in my setup as I would have to store it in the back of my TV stand. So the drive would have to do more than look pretty. Also, I've looked at all the official literature & it doesn't say if it's 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm. Most drives that size are the former. So I doubt it's the latter. I guess we'll find out soon enough as it is shipping August 10 from Amazon.

Hmm yah, I was not up on current hard drive sizes or prices.

they are larger faster 3.5 inch drives in there. So you get improved performance. You also put less burden on the system for drawing power

For me behind my TV is already a tangle of cords and every little thing having a wall wart (which are also problematic to fit on your power strip due to their bulk when you have many) is a problem.

A problem that could be dealt with if necessary enough.

Also I would assume Xbox is specced to power it's own USB ports without issue obviously, so I dont think that's a problem.

Personally I dont find 500 GB a big problem so far. While it's shocking how quickly it gets sapped compared to prior gen, so that 500 GB is nowhere close to the spaciousness it would appear to be coming from 360, it's still space for a solid half dozen or so full sized games which is enough for me at any one time. For now I feel like it's very manageable. Most likely if I was to upgrade I'd go with something like a svelte 2TB USB powered, I'd rather have self powered than more storage I think.

How much does a 7200RPM help vs 5400 RPM in these consoles? It's not limited by USB I/O is it? I guess even just larger platters on 5400 RPM would help right?

A desktop sized external drive is going to be very large and for most people harder to hide, my wife would object to another large black box amd even more wires around the tv.

I have purchased

http://www.amazon.com/Collective-Minds-Drive-Enclosure-Front-Ports/dp/B00T76ZGDO

And intend to get a hdd shortly.

No wires, front usb port and invisible to my wife aka easy life.

All in all not to bad an option although you pay for size and convenience, even more so as i had to import it, ohh well.

It doea have plenty of holes through it for airflow for the console although i am not sure much air passes that bd rom anyhow.

I know a lot of you that post here are in the UK & Europe & probably don't understand how big & important the NFL is here in the States. But the NFL season is starting this weekend with Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony tomorrow & the Hall of Fame game on Sunday. With that Microsoft today announced their new NFL app for Xbox One & it's amazing. Check the video in the article below...

The "Next-Gen Stats" video is crazy cool! Didn't know each NFL player had a microchip?! They say it will be available later this month. Regular season start Sept 10. So it looks like we'll get to use the app during the preseason. They also announced other details about Surface Pro 3 being used by coaches & referees. All of this is part of their 5 year deal with the NFL & this year 3. Hopefully they keep innovating like this every year.

Well, this is just.... bizarre.

It seems like too good of a deal to be true, I'll guess we'll see when the official ad comes out but a 40 inch 1080p smart tv plus an XB1 for $500 at Best Buy for the next week as part of their 'back to school' sale. And it's not even one of Best Buy's own crappy brand TV's, Dynex I think is their brand. This is actually a Samsung TV.

If there's no hidden downside, the only thing I can think of is that this must be a very supply limited offer or something. Like when car dealerships advertise great prices on vehicles and in the small unreadable print it gives you a VIN # and says it only applies to one specific vehicle on their lot.

If not, $500 for a $400 TV and a $350 XB1 is a crazy good deal for anybody wanting to "Jump In" or "Leap Ahead" (I keep forgetting what their new slogan is.)

My bedroom TV is a 32 inch, my office computer is running a 26 inch TV as its monitor. If there's really no downside to this, I might go ahead get a second XB1 and put it and the 40 inch in my bedroom, move that TV to the office and put the 26 inch up on Craigslist or even just freecycle it since there's no place else to put it. Well, I guess I could always use a TV in the kitchen! :D

'Back to school' - get a console and TV and game instead of do any homework?? Must be a campaign backed by a foreign power trying to undermine the US economy by destroying the next generation's education.

That limits it to every other country apart from Canada and Mexico. Because nobody wants broke neighbours. They're always borrowing the lawn mower and never cleaning it before returning it. Bastards.

I actually included a tirade about how ridiculous a "back to school" sale that included a gaming console was and then decided to delete it because it would derail the thread.

But yes, I think we can all agree on how ridiculously absurd that notion is.

If you think of college or university (where many people go away from home) rather than school, it makes more sense. There's no way I would have gotten through either without a TV and games.
