News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Ha! No joke, but that's why I said it's only relevant as "a stupid marketing thing". Which is exactly why MS announced their 1TB console before Sony came out and did the same, what? the next day?

It's ridiculous, but then again, a lot of console sales are based upon ridiculousness. The common consumer doesn't read B3D or Neogaf or anything else. The funny thing to me is that those under-informed users are going to be the same that don't care about "HDDs aren't as pretty" Hell, I don't care. My WD 2TB HDD is hanging off the back of my XB1 and I don't care. I'm far more concerned about getting my 360 out of my entertainment center than I am about the HDD.\

Then again, I keep thinking it'd be really cool if I could somehow link all my storage together. It's kinda annoying that I've got a 6TB Synology NAS and a 2TB USB HDD connected to my XB1. I'd much rather have my NAS just deal with all of it, and I could expand it to whatever I wanted. Ehhhhh.... I know, maybe some day.
This reminds me of the fact that I have to get a 2TB or more hard drive for the Xbox One, I don't have space in my HD anymore.

Phil Spencer talks about the elite controller.

I just bought the covert forces X1 controller with the built in 3.5mm audio jack.
So far, the bumpers are much improved although I had no issue with the original.

I tried out my headphones with it and it works with no problems. One issue is to turn the volume up, you have to go into the settings menu-device-volume mixer. It is definitely NOT ideal. I did remember on one of the future builds that this will be much easier to access.

The controller that came with my system "A" button was sticking and it was frustrating the heck out of me trying to play Ori and Diablo.

Now I get how cautious you were playing Diablo 3 at first. The original controller Day One 2013 still works for me, but I might look into buying another one if I have the money and I find a good deal to purchase the Elite version.

Sony are alledgedly looking to file lawsuit towards Square Enix because of the exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Rider.

Firstly, who translated that article into English? Manuel from Fawlty Towers? This is Nolan Bushnell, once again, saying something related to mainstream gaming so the press will write down what he really wants to say about what he's doing now. What's that old wise one, new consoles won't appear every tear but every so often? No kidding, where do you get this unknowable wisdom?

This is the indeed only way Mr Bushnell gets any press attention these days. His comments about AR vs. VR are entirely about the prospects of the technology in his current area of interest: education.

I don't play games to get an education, I play games till kill people:runaway: Anyone for FIFA?

I'd play FIFA with you, but I wonder if you could complete the match before disconnecting once you see me play. :) Ronaldo to Bale, Bale to Isco, Isco to Benzema, Kroos passes the ball, Bale.... goal! Your opponent's connection has been lost. :) I kid, I kid. I am good at dribbling in FIFA but not at scoring.

On a different note...

Hmm....

When asked about PC to XB1 streaming this little interesting bit happened:

https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/623516307137269760

For those of you that hate the twitter even more than I do and refuse to even click the link, Phil says that first they are working on perfecting XB1 to PC streaming and that they'd need KB/M support on the XB1 to work before PC to XB1 streaming could be implemented but that KB/M support is on the way.

Yup. One platform, it's coming.

Any news as to when are we getting a slim X1? My guess is late 2016 in a new process, either that or just after E3 2017. Can't see it happening earlier/later.

Don't expect it before 2017. Next year will be the first year 14/16nm will be viable for them but it will still be very expensive. 2018 is when we will see a slim model.

I just hope it keeps its whisper quiet performance. My xbox one makes almost no noise.

I hope they shrink the case before the components shrink. The box is ludicrously large and doesn't need to be. If Microsoft don't have the in-house engineering expertise to shrink it and keep it cool and quiet, albeit at a slight cost, contract somebody to do it.

I literally can not fit an Xbox One into the space my PS3 occupies in my media centre. Not with the external PSU as well.

lol.

But what if they need that box to be that size? What if MS decides, hey guys we've hit the end for optimization for our XBO, we need more juice to improve graphics, it's time to OC the GPU 350Mhz!!!! :runaway::runaway::runaway::runaway::runaway:

my xbox one fit in the same spot as my original xbox 360 from 2005 so I have no complaints. Unlike my xbox 360s (even the first slim) and the ps3 I owned (40gig ) it makes almost no noise. Its also quieter than my friends ps4.

Some people want smaller sizes , some of us want less noise. I'm sure they will be able to shrink it and keep the noise profile . There is a lot of extra space in there but I don't think the major problem is the APU .

I'd love a xbox one with a 14nm APU with no bluray drive and a 2TB drive. I'd buy it day one to replace my current one. Keep the same cooling and boom silent device that sips power. Would be amazing esp if I can then stream my pc games to it at some point in the future.

Only missing media center :(

Well yeah, the major problem is the motherboard, the choice of DDR3, and the PC-style heatsink design. None of those things would change with a new APU or removing the BR drive.

I have the original PS3 which is not as wide as the Xbox One but it's the external PSU that is real problem

This. It's not a choice because you can have both. There are plenty of hot little boxes with little no space (like almost every laptop out there) and things like MacMini. And while you may hear the rush of air from a laptop when right near it, many laptops are effectively silent when you're a many feet away. My PS3 does sound like a jet engine though but after eight years I'm not complaining. I can hear my PS4 when close but not from the sofa.
