Yeah, this has got to be some unfortunate oversight or breakdown in communication. It's not great that it has happened but I' sure this wasn't intentional and that Microsoft are rectifying it as we type.

The indie dev wrote, that this is actually the second time this happened...the first delay was 54 days.

Are you guys even reading the link...?

I mean, this is really bad for getting indie devs on board of the X1 train...that is why I am confused that MS is so "sloppy".

Yeah I read the link. This is either intentional or not. I don't believe it to be intentional and yes I fully agree it's "sloppy" but I don't believe this to be an intentional malicious act on the part of Microsoft. Sometimes fuck ups just happen. Sometimes they happen more than once.

Yeah, I don't think it is intentional either (although one might say that their contract with a 45 days delay being ok might be interpreted differently), however it shows that on the other hand paying the indie devs is definitively not their top priority...

Probably not, and at the risk of going off topic and incurring BRiT's wrath, we've also seen indies moan a little about Sony's lack of support, i.e. not responding to support calls promptly or at all. I guess resources in both companies can be stretched thin but it is unfortunate that it is smaller companies that tend to suffer more. I bet Activision, EA and Ubisoft don't have problems getting hold of somebody on the end of a phone!

Oh and to top it all off speaking to indie developers at Gadget Show Live most are baffled by Microsoft’s Indie game admission policy and methods. Many praised Sony and said looking into it even Nintendo had a far better far clearer system than Microsoft.
That scares me considering a dev was telling me how difficult Sony was to work with! And if Sony are the most approachable of the devs, Indie on consoles is a far, far cry from Indie on mobile. Though some will argue that has its upside. ;)

I'm not denying it sucks for the devs. But I've seen this situation often when I worked for a small startup, where the biggest corporations were often the slowest to pay us, but I never thought it was intentional, I think they're not structured for lots of small contracts. Sometimes there's many layers with way too much bureaucracy, multiple layers of finance approval, someone made a mistake, someone in the chain was recently fired or quit, a new guy in charge wasn't properly trained, etc... And my favorite was... the guy is on vacation and all you get is an automated email (it meant either skiing or golfing).

Although quite possible, the competition makes that extremely hard to defend. Massive companies like Google pay every month, no worries. 45 day delays was sensible in the days of an accountant calculating payments and posting paper cheques around, but hard to justify with modern computerised commerce and banking. When a sale is made, credit the percentage to the account. At the end of the month, pay the account credit to the bank account.

I kept checking my payments screen to see what was up, so I looked at the last three years of payments from MS and for me anyway the payment was usually the Monday after I got the full report. Once we hit 45-days this time around it was a bit obvious something was up, and sure enough the forums showed that. Thankfully Andy hit up MS and got them to respond, sucks and I understand some Devs were budgeting things around this.

Getting my 1099 is another story, that is usually right on the legal limit. The first year it was rather late and caused an uproar from the community.

Edit: Shifty in some cases the Devs have to wait to hit the $150 threshold for payment even, so small games that don't do well can take a few quarters to even hit the limit. I do not remember what the details are for WP, but I have not had any problems on that side of things.

Many companies are on a 90-day pay cycle, hated doing AR as our policy was to terminate contracts after 30-day no pay. Even though at that time my company would not touch an invoice for 85-days. LOL Company my wife works for is the same way, except she has to work her AR's at 90-days and even then she has trouble getting companies to pay.

Yup, 90 day arrears is not uncommon. You'd rather have the assests in your accounts for as long as possible.

Yeah, my stepdad owns a transport company and 90 day waits are common. So common that there are companies that will pay you immediately and then wait the 90 days for reimbursement. All for a ~6% cut.

BBC iPlayer is now available on Xbox One for the UK folks.

Great!

I must confess I'm getting XBONE this Christmass but not as a video game console (I use PC for that)! It will be my media centre hub and thanks to Kinect 2.0 also video conference tool as well as personal trainer.
Any one here had maybe experiences with setting it up to control Sky+HD box and Sammy smart TV? It should just work in theory but I wasn't following One user discussions till now as purchase was not planned.

Oh! One game I'm looking forward to play is Forza 5. Should be fun!

!

I've done several Skype conference calls using XB1/Kinect and it works great. The way it zooms and pans is like having a camera man in the room, it's very impressive!

My TV does this. Basic facial detection is found even in shitty cameras and that's really all you need for the camera to identify your face and make sure it's visible and appropriately sized.

Yes, my TV have a flip up cam and Skype built in!

So, I'm trying to figure out this One thing and I'm a bit confused. I loaded MCC, GTA V, Ryse, Dance Central Spotlight and I think two free games. I'm at 46% used. Already?

Is there something that I'm doing wrong, in terms of installing the entire game to the console automatically or something, because it didn't ask me. I put a disc in and it automatically installs the entire game. Is that how this is supposed to work? Because that means you can really only have a handful of games that are playable at any given time with the 500GB drive. Even with an external 2TB drive like Dave was just talking about in another thread, that's still only a very few number of games.

Is there a way to play games off the disc so they don't install the entire thing, or what? That's how it was on the 360, you could install the games for better performance or you could choose not to. Either way, I'm pretty sure I was able to have far more games installed on my 360 than this and that only has a 120GB HDD. I think I had Mass Effect 2, GTAV, Red Dead Redemption all installed along with probably 50 other digital games like Pirates Booty, Civ Revolutions, Arcade titles, etc.

So, color me confused.

@RancidLunchmeat There's a portion of the 500GB that's used by the system, so you don't have a full 500GB to start with. You have more like 362GB to start with.

Unfortunately since the system uses a bluray drive they have decided on full installs this gen on both consoles. At least they say it is the bluray drive speeds fault.

Too bad it's only available in Canada.

Damn, that's pretty slick. It's like having an extra internal HDD but on the outside. In other words, if someone came over, they'd never know that you have 2 HDDs available to store all your games, music, video's and whatever on.

Hell, with some of the BF deals on the Samsung Evo. I was almost tempted to buy 4 of them and have 4 TB of SSD storage on my XBO to run games on. Well, except I haven't turned my XBO on in a few months now. :p Although with winter here, I may start using it again to get some extra exercise in.

Regards,
SB
