Update on XBLIG payments: Still nothing has hit my bank, but when I look at reports they did find an additional amount of revenue. So it appears that behind the scenes they are currently checking all the data and making corrections. Maybe payments this week according to an email that some developers have received.

How long have you been waiting JWM? Is it a quarterly payout thing?

Yes normal quarterly payout, in response to some of the outcry from a week or so back on a few media sites.

Edit: Not sure on #, I was not really counting. I just knew it was later than normal, went to check the XNA forums and saw I was not alone and MS was aware and working on it. A few days later we saw the NeoGaf thread and media sites pick up on it.

Edit #2: Yay, payment was applied this morning.

Just to make sure I'm getting this straight, there's no One chatpad and there's no voice messaging and there's no video messaging?

So the only way to send messages to friends is to use the virtual keyboard and go through all that hassle? Or use smartglass which is the same thing, only requires an additional device.

Seriously?

You are correct AFAIK. I think this is likely changing in the future OS updates since not too much has changed since the unbundling of Kinect and they desperately need to support the Kinect-Free experience more.

I think they expected Skype to be the replacement. How easy/integrated is Skype for doing voice & video messages?

BTW, I hear you on the chatpad. Love my 360 chatpad. I think the problem is the 360 controller had screw holes that allowed the chatpad to snap on. With the XB1 controller there are no more screw holes, so there is no way to snap on a chatpad. Not sure if the microphone expansion port would be strong enough to hold a chatpad all by itself.

Whats wrong with using a usb keyboard?

I'd say that in the smartphone/tablet era, and the era of popular social networks, the idea of typing messages with the controller, even using a chat pad attachment, is basically pointless. The amount of people that would actually use it is basically negligible.

That explains the lack of voice and video chat how?

BTW typing this on my logitech remote qwerty keyboard for my HTPC. Explain to me again why the market does not exist?

It has both voice and video chat. Skype is their video chat solution. What it doesn't have, I guess, is voice and video messaging, because they basically stopped being used when party chat was added to the 360.

Harmony remotes are a niche market. The keyboard add-ons are even more so. Your setup is not the normal way people browse and message - smartphones, tablets, laptops.

Windows 10 has a Xbox Live/Smartglass app. iOS, Android already have smart glass. That means the primary messaging device for most people already support smart glass, and PCs will do it easier in the future. Most people have their phones glued to their hip. Why spend $30 on a chat pad when I can type the messages for free on the phone I already own?

By the way, smarglass makes for a nice Xbox One remote. Even covers PVR functions, from my understanding.

First, I want to apologize because I realize that earlier response came off as bitchy and obnoxious.

My point was that if they want the One to be a media hub, then they need to offer devices and services that people who normally use HTPCs as media hubs have. Such as little tiny logitech wireless keyboards. There's a million of them out for sale, so obviously, people who use PC's to control their entertainment center like the keyboard. If the One is going to take the place of the HTPC, it also needs to offer a keyboard and the 360 actually did with the chat pad.

Why would I want to put down my controller and pick up yet another device in order to send a message or type in any sort of lengthy dialog? We're already holding the controller. Put the keyboard on the controller, don't make me put down the controller and use a tablet or phone to send a message quickly and easily. The ease and quickness disappears when you have to switch input devices.

As far as video and voice messaging being stopped on the 360 when they added party chat.. what? I send and receive voice messages on the 360 on weekly basis, because it's easier to simply record a quick voice message than it is to type in a text message. Especially when you don't have a chat pad that provides a real keyboard to type on!.

I'm already holding my controller. I already have kinect sitting up there ready to record voice or video or both. Why would I want to pick up yet another device to try to send a quick text or voice message?

You mentioned Skype.. does that work for sending messages? My understanding is that Skype is only for chatting, I can't say.. use Skype to send you a voice (or video) message when you aren't online, correct? Skype only works real time and doesn't allow for recording, right?

Are u unconvinced about the third party chatpads for the xb1 floating around the net like on eBay. I am assuming from your posts that this is a very pertinent matter for u. So what's the problem with those devices?

MS rumored to show off a VR head set in at e3 designed by the surface team (good the surface is amazing) they also are still working on Fortaleza .

I'd say if MS moved forward with an exclusive VR mine craft bundled with the unit it could sell extremely well.

Edit * My only question now is if it will work on the pc too and if I should go rift or ms

Yeah, I bought the chatpad for 360 years ago and never used it.

And Smartglass is the same thing, a keyboard for typing messages on your phone.

I'd say the D-Pad and onscreen keyboard is fine for your typical jam out a quick message on X1 stuff, along with typical text shorthand. It works well, very refined iteration. Especially since messages are integrated so seamlessly into the OS with snap.

Some people seem to miss voice messages though. I imagine they get them back in some future update.

My question here is the X1's lack of flops. PS4 will be in bad enough shape in VR imo, X1 just worsens it. Although to be fair, there isn't some magic cutoff point that say 1X flops just cant do VR at all while 1.4X can, as GAF seems to act.

There was some implication in the GAF post about this that sources are implying VR will be a heavy focus of the next gen console.

The sources also believe head-worn products will become a new focus of the gaming hardware developers for the next-generation gaming devices.

To me, I think MS has to hedge their bets here and have a VR solution waiting and ready, and observe how the market develops so they can react quickly, but if I was them I wouldn't just willy nilly assume VR is going to light the world on fire. I dont want to see another Kinect situation.

The one good thing about VR focused future consoles is I think as a by product they will need to be very heavy on the horsepower. So assuming there remains a traditional non VR market, that will be nice.

They can make the head set with a high resolution and still render at 720p which is most likely what Sony will do anyway .

I doubt we see the head set until holiday 2016. That's the fourth holiday of the console and the third full year.

The head set wont cost to much on its own but will require Kinect. So early adopters and some late adopters will already have the camera. I bet the head set will come in at $200 and it will have a game or two packed in.

I don't think it will be much of a problem esp if they allow it to work on the pc and if they allow it to work next gen that would also be a plus.

The Kinect has processing hardware and I'm sure the head set will have some also which should also help
