First, I want to apologize because I realize that earlier response came off as bitchy and obnoxious.
My point was that if they want the One to be a media hub, then they need to offer devices and services that people who normally use HTPCs as media hubs have. Such as little tiny logitech wireless keyboards. There's a million of them out for sale, so obviously, people who use PC's to control their entertainment center like the keyboard. If the One is going to take the place of the HTPC, it also needs to offer a keyboard and the 360 actually did with the chat pad.
Why would I want to put down my controller and pick up yet another device in order to send a message or type in any sort of lengthy dialog? We're already holding the controller. Put the keyboard on the controller, don't make me put down the controller and use a tablet or phone to send a message quickly and easily. The ease and quickness disappears when you have to switch input devices.
As far as video and voice messaging being stopped on the 360 when they added party chat.. what? I send and receive voice messages on the 360 on weekly basis, because it's easier to simply record a quick voice message than it is to type in a text message. Especially when you don't have a chat pad that provides a real keyboard to type on!.
I'm already holding my controller. I already have kinect sitting up there ready to record voice or video or both. Why would I want to pick up yet another device to try to send a quick text or voice message?
You mentioned Skype.. does that work for sending messages? My understanding is that Skype is only for chatting, I can't say.. use Skype to send you a voice (or video) message when you aren't online, correct? Skype only works real time and doesn't allow for recording, right?
