News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

I'm sceptical of video game DVR storage too, but then again they allowed some of that on the Halo series, but that might have just been Bungie's call.
Wasn't Halo saving the player input and co-ordinates and movements of all elements in the game world so the engine could replay it later? I'm sure that's how Halo 3 was doing this, Halo 3 "movies" were tiny - from a few hundred kb to a few megabytes. I don't know if other Halo games were doing differently.

Why do you doubt? Any solid insider view or just a gut feel?

I'm sceptical of video game DVR storage too, but then again they allowed some of that on the Halo series, but that might have just been Bungie's call. Though I sort of expect them to want to have more content and control around content then just offloading that to YouTube... Why give free content to Google to make ad impressions money when MS would prefer to make that ad revenue themselves?

Well first their own wording, they don't say video or media. Second it is common sense. Why would the potentially backup 100s of GB of video per player when they are using services made for this that make revenue from clicks for doing it? Seems like a waste to copy the videos to MS servers for backup, when the same video can go to uStream or Youtube for its intended use. If you want to back it up, use an external HD. Also the cloud backup of XBL stuff is not part of Gold, so MS makes no direct money from it.

Yes and no. That was for game replays, but they also had the ability of rendering the game from specific viewpoints and zoom levels into a normal video file. That might have been for Bungie-Plus services, can't recall exactly. But you could watch other peoples videos using web browser and outside of the Halo game engine.

So no 12GB, oh well to much to wish for i guess. In regards to dvr didn't they hook up with Twitch.tv ?

Twitch is livestream, Game DVR is another thing (in-house capture + upload a copy to Xbox cloud)

I'm surprised that we're in B3D but nobody doing engine tech has shown up giving the all-clear for ESRAM, though. We know it can handle some post-render filters faster (in terms of GPU % as a measure) but I'm curious to know how bandwidth is actually distributed pre/post render.

They may be more professional/like being employed too much to discuss work that's under NDA.

I doubt MS is going to allow video, sounds more like data associated with your XBL account.

Game DVR will be stored in the cloud...

WHITTEN: Game DVR captures beautiful clips at 720p 30fps. The first thing you’ll see with our game DVR is the integration of our Upload service on the console. This service allows you to manage, edit, and share your content. Your clips are stored in the cloud.

Ahh, yes you will be able to use universal remotes. They will provide the IR codes. What I'm not 100% sure is if the receiver is on the Xbox One or the Kinect. I'm going to assume they put the receiver in the Kinect since that would be in the best location.

Yeah, it looks like it's in the Kinect...

How is Kinect IR blasting supposed to work? It would be blasting IR out into your room, while your cable box (or whatever it's gonna control) will probably be situated below the Kinect somewhere. So how are the IR flashes gonna get there? Are they strong enough to bathe the room in enough IR light that enough of it will bounce back to the device you're trying to control?

Yes. Seriously, it's like magic. I'm not even joking.

I didn't think it was going to work, either, if I'm being honest.

I'm sure there will be some unique situations where it's not perfect (which is why we have the cable). But yes it works that way, and frankly better than you would think.

IR Blaster. Kinect has and IR blaster array built in. Can turn on your TV, Cable Box, etc. so when you say “Xbox On” it will actually power your equipment, switch inputs, etc. (I know, TV TV TV but when you get to see it, you’ll understand.). As someone pointed out, if for some reason your setup doesn’t work with Kinect IR blasting, you can get a cable and connect to the port in the back.

I definitely want to see a demo of this in action. May never need my Harmony remote again. Blasphemy I know! :)

Is it over!?
Can we now stop talking about the 12Gb?!

Wow, guess we can. What an weird way to get that out there. Timing odd too. Guess they felt the need after Major Nelson slyly dodged the amount of memory in the video.

Ok now what's the next 180 rumor? LOL Seems like they still have a big announcement or two for Gamescom. Cant' just be more games or more hands-on the retail hardware?

Using Kinect as an IR blaster is not something I was expecting.

Seems like there will be Kinect love at gamescom. IGN had good impression of Zumba fitness on kinect 2 and said sports rivals would be at the show. Ign said lag was greatly reduced and the Xbox is near silent.

I think you're overestimating some things. I doubt MS is having war room strategy meetings over what to have Albert Penello tweet to his ~900 followers :p

I guess he just saw a tweet and replied to it.

Similarly, some of us just read something that wasn't there into Major Nelson's "omission" .

OK, using voice commands as a universal remote through Kinect sounds intriguing.

Wasn't that known since the May event? i always thought it looked pretty cool myself...

I expect crackdown 3 and fable to be shown . I also expect about 5-6 Kinect games.

Expect them to go over new live features also .

Other than that , I'm not expecting to much. Mabye we will get another 2-3 exclusive game announcements but I would expect those to be 2014 relases at the earliest
