your isp regularly craps out for 24 hours?
really?
Plus, how prevalent are smartphones globally? If I lost Internet I could use my iPhones Internet just to sync up and then go back offline.

?? Guy asks if the down clock rumor is true, he says its false, what's left to infer?
This while share games with family members sounds way better than it is. Here is the quote:
"Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games.* Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you."
Note the 'inside your home' part. All this means, I think, is that if you have 2 Xbox Ones in your home, you can share a game. This feature is only handy is you have more than 1 Xbox One in your home. Having said that, I think it's fucking insulting that Microsoft sees it as a feature that a guest in my home can play games on my Xbox One for free. Or anyone else for that matter. How stupid does MS think I am?
"Congratulations! This month you'll be a year wiser. But what's a birthday without a sweet surprise? Try this: Enjoy 20 Microsoft Points as our gift to you.
I believe MN, he NEVERS and i mean NEVER reports on anything the fact that he shot this down means that it's false. besides thuway and bruceleeroy both have a sony agenda.
You will have to teach me how to do that, because I am in the same situation as you. I'd be eternally grateful.
The console is aimed at casual and core audience, but for casual, the simpler, the better...
No, then his response would have been the standard "We don't comment on rumors". The fact that he did not break out the standard response is quite telling. He'll hardly admit them will he?? Admitting to such a thing at this point in time will be commercial suicide for the console and will drive a lot of tech heads towards PS4.
Many many thanks Rangers. My phone isn't android but there should be an equivalent so no problem. I am really grateful. I am going to save your text for future reference and help, just in case.if you have an android phone get an app called pda net. that's it. you dont need a tethering plan, it will set your phone up as a wifi hotspot. phone does not need to be rooted.
it's 7 bucks for the pay version (worth it anyway imo) but the free limited version would seem to work ok for this check in.
i wont be disingenuous and say joe (or jane) six pack really knows how to do this though.
I hope game journalists man up and ask Microsoft why their policies are the way they are. Why am I only allowed to lend a game to a friend of mine for 30 days? Why can I only play offline for up to 24 hours before the console needs to reconnect? And most importantly, why can't I privately sell my own damn game? Why through "selected retailers".
I admit that I'm a cheap ass gamer and from the 18 games I own, probably 15 are bought used. All the others I bought in store and I've played lots of other games I borrowed from friends.
I'm not liking this. Especially the 24 hour check in. Usually when my ISP craps out and I have no internet, I pass time by gaming. What if the X1 won't allow me to play anymore because I have been playiing offlike for too long? I guess I could connect the X1 to my phone through WiFi tethering to reset the clock.. but damn I'm not comfortable with all these restrictions.
Holy crap. It's as bad as it could possibly be.Under the "news, not rumors" section, Major Nelson just posted this hot across the twitter wire 1 minute ago:

Thanks again. The info Rangers gave me and the correlational info you provided me with -along with a PM, he he- should be enough to get me going in the fascinating world of the new generation of consoles. If you have a modern (read: android, ios or windows phone) phone, barring any restriction from your mobile service provider, you can share your phone's internet with your devices through wifi tethering. Android and iOS have 5 device limit, Windows Phone 8 has 8 device limit, but on most Android phones you can share through wifi, bluetooth and usb passthrough, while its strictly through wifi for WP8. That's what I am using and its great.

You are precisely the customer they don't want.
Not my case though, but it opens up the possibility of keeping the console alive once it is fully replaced by a new one in less than a dedade.@Cyan - they have stated that rare special use codes will exist to allow a console to be offline - think military. Have not seen any more details about it, but apparently they have worked it out.
Overall I like some of the features, though I am curious if family members can play simultaneously. I had to buy doubles and triples in my house so I really would love it if it was tied to the router mac address or something.

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
Good point - it did seem far too good to be true.
It is a rather mediocre Blackberry almost nobody uses nowadays. I switched the SO myself but I messed up the firmware of my phone provider -which was really bad- to the point that I am about to "purchase" a new Nokia soon. I'd be happy to do away with it.Cyan, what OS does your phone have?
To be honest I can only speak to Android, and I dont know if PDA Net is available on any others (it probably isn't), or if they have anything similar.
