News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Reminds me of reading articles from the days of SNES and MEGADRIVE.. i really like the dedicated server thing, that is pretty awesome and the game seems nice on paper.

Besides that i am left incredible cold by all the praise by a exclusive developer, that is just classic bad PR.

Everyone was praising the praise of the exclusive PS4 devs as proof of Sony being a console for gamers... Here is the first contradiction of that view. Lets wait and see what else.

I think your post just proves how over the top people are.

Ms never said no used games. MS never said allways connected , you just have to connect x amount of hours.

It also makes me wonder where you have been since e3 2005. Ms has spent more and more time on enriching the xbox live features away from gaming and the last 2 years or so are making it a point to show how much more people use the 360 for things other than gaming.

People just like to hate and instead of waiting for information they are just building everything up in their heads where things that aren't true like used games become true.

I'm actually excited about the xbox one . Some of the features shown are interesting to me. I like the fact that I can be watching tv and get a message on my screen that a friend wants to play and I can jump in and play with me.

Personally I like those ads, I mean 'notifications' when I'm watching TV that my friend buys some DLC and I'm asked if I want to buy it too. ;)

o_O weird thread.

Since it's rumours and this appears appropriate - for people that don't read GAF:
- the round-table event that occurs after the meeting (where technical questions are usually asked) has been cancelled.
- it appears the 1:1 meetings with journalists after that round-table have also been 'selectively cancelled' (or some aren't cancelled yet).

This seems to be in-line with the rumours that the meeting would be devoid of all technical content :(.

Its a misunderstanding, MS has cloned leadership with Artificial Intelligence and is using the power of the cloud to stream the execs answers to questions. The journalist will actually have 3 times as many people to speak to versus Sony.

Yes, apparently a scheduling conflict caused them to cancel lots of the 1:1 interviews just prior to the meeting without giving any explanation.

I assume this actually rather innocent/unfortunate, because otherwise this is the most inept PR exercise in history :(.

Honestly I don't think its that big of a deal, few people outside of gaming will even know this happened. MS is most likely interested in controlling their message so they will want to provide sufficient time with the journalist that matter, only schedule with outfits that agree to let them preview/authorize the release of the meeting and stay on a tightly scripted message.

The mainstream has no idea who crazy butt train is, who Giant Bomb is so why does it matter anyway?

OTOH if Cnet, Engadget, The Verge, Wired for example can't get time there might be reason for concern. Haven't heard any of that yet so like the clock downgrade not much for anyone to objectively conclude anything so far.

They seem to be avoiding any interviews with the gaming media at all costs. It looks like they are going to concentrate on spinning the regular media to try and overwhelm the 'gaming console' image that the PS4 has built. It goes hand in hand with their wish to 'destroy Sony' at this E3.

Just like Herpes.
I am sorry you had such a rotten day, but boy, do I understand what you are talking about. I get frequent migraines (probably most of them are basically stress-related)..& not so many meltdowns, because I bottle everything up & eventually explode. Yesterday was a bad day, most certainly.

The downclock thingy and remaining silent to the negative comments of this guy and others, adding to this the typical doom and gloom of a long-time Xbox hater, it was all too much for me to bear with.

Consequently I called him a liar -he was outright lying, actually-, among other improprieties and I got subsequently banned for a while from the other forum I usually write -not anymore, I hope, I don't like the atmosphere there- because of that.

I'd never do that in normal, ideal conditions.

We'll get a whole lot more actual data to work with, facts to check, etc. If everything is still faked, there are no good hands-on demos on the Xbox One after the presser, all the software looks like crap, Microsoft does not give a launch date, whatever - real issues almost never stay hidden after that week, someone from the press will learn it from a developer.
My biggest bit of advice would be something similar to that, to research your options and let people speak before deciding anything.

I made my plan. I am going to buy the Xbox One if there aren't downclocks --if so, no gaming anymore. Then, a couple of years afterwards, a PS4 filled with exclusives -and GT-, all the shiny shiny, glitter glitter, is very tempting as a secondary console.

Hope the plan goes through.

Does Sony even have these same media 1 on 1's (that none of us knew existed anyway until "hey, here's another thing that makes Xbox look bad posted on a forum five minutes ago") scheduled?

Does anybody even know, or care? I mean, is it unimaginable to even think of holding Sony to the same standard as MS is held to?

What i meant was the way that 1st party developers keep on praising the hardware/console they are developing their exclusive game for. I have watched and read it so many times it leaves me cold i almost get a blank stare :)

On topic, i don't think anyone expected the XB1 to be without exclusives at all, they/i just expect Sony to have more.

Ironically this will be off-topic: I went to PT for a few months learning neck stretches, I was fed up with the daily meds and shots but the PT reduced my migraines by at least 90% - I might only have one per week now.

Meeting cancellations - I am sure this is normal for any company, but there is blood in the water so we are hearing more about it. Oversimplified explanation maybe on my part. Other outlets might get more time with each 1 on 1 now, maybe they were overbooked and felt time would lead to bad PR (ie rushing interviewers out after a few questions). Or my favorite thought, in order to limit confusing messages they have eliminated those executives from the meeting lineup.

I believe MN, he NEVERS and i mean NEVER reports on anything the fact that he shot this down means that it's false. besides thuway and bruceleeroy both have a sony agenda.

This generation the cool thing to do in the press to gain street cred was to bash Sony, I would not be surprised if one of the other big three are the focus this time.

With that said I have to say that much of what I am reading online on tech and gaming sites has been pretty neutral if not positive about XB1. The forums are pretty negative but so far MS has been handled ok by the media IMO......

Oh so MS has nothing to do with this overreaction? You take an established gaming brand and the first thing you reveal is TV and Sports, cloud buzzwords, no used games, always connected, etc and expect fans and potential customers to be non pessimistic? lol

.

I thought the Tv stuff looked cool. Shrug, guess I'm not toeing the company so-called gamer line?

Cloud buzzwords? You mean like Gakai? Why am I 100% sure if Sony was saying this cloud stuff instead of MS it would be getting promoted and defended rather than denigrated by most people?

No used games? I stopped following that saga a long time ago, but I seem to recall Microsoft specifically said used games are DEFINITELY allowed. The issue here was always MS/Pubs trying to horn in on what Gamestop gets 100% of now. It's always about money and they can fight over that but there's no incentive to ban used games itself. But you know, that's actually logic and reason again.

Always connected, another thing i gave up on following, but last thing I heard was every 24 hrs, and it seemed like they were considering scrapping it altogether because of backlash. Either way, I dont care.. It's really not like between my (always on) 4G phone and cable connection I'm just really without internet a lot, I promise. It seems reasonable that too strict of a check window (eg every second) could be annoying, but beyond that I dont care. My Xbox 360 has sat connected to internet for the last 8 years just like your console has without any requirement.

Finally, on the last two points, used games and always online, I think it's reasonable to assume Sony may enact, in part or in whole, very similar policies on one or both. And if they dont, I think they may suffer reduced publisher support which can translate to reduced market share, which I'm quite sure you dont want. But there goes that "logic" again.

Here's another platform where you cant sell used games and is more or less always online I think in practice (I believe it has some convoluted offline mode available if you just insist, but I'm sure nobody uses it anyway because why would you?): Steam. And it's consider God's gift to gamers.

Majornelson has justed answered a tweet regarding the esram rumours.

They are false.

He'll hardly admit them will he?? Admitting to such a thing at this point in time will be commercial suicide for the console and will drive a lot of tech heads towards PS4.

crazy buttocks on a train responded again to Major Nelsons tweet on GAF:

"no.

pr=$$$ to shil for corps
me=notpaifd fpor anyting 9 ysrs here on gaf, all free and all myo love. gamers and games, noohther.

esram stands, perio.d.

truthfact."

Damn.

True he wouldn't admit them, so if esram was an issue he wouldn't have responded as all. The fact that he gives an unequivocal response (twice) is far more believable than nonsense posted by so called insiders all of whom appear to be as biased as bowling ball.
