News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

With XBOX 360 MS took the role of IP licenser and the onus on production was on them, hence yield concerns were 100% on their shoulders. Is this the status quo now? We're dealing with x86 this gen and we all know that's tied in a rats nest of licensing; last time x86 was in a console MS bought an-off the-shelf part from Intel and all the onus on yield was the domain of the supplier.

Thanks for the perspective.

Going back to my post then, with this in mind you can substitute contract in for yield and the opinion of what gamers want to know doesn't really change. Can the targeted launch date and/or can the targeted clock rates be effected by the terms of the contract? In other words, is this a fluid or static situation from AMDs perspective?

Also, going with that perspective it can be surmised that Sony is facing a similar situation in that their concerns are with the fulfillment of the contract by their supplier.

Edit: Hell who am I kidding. We're just a bunch of gossiping school girls here wanting to know everything.

What's going to happen during the week of E3?

We'll get a whole lot more actual data to work with, facts to check, etc. If everything is still faked, there are no good hands-on demos on the Xbox One after the presser, all the software looks like crap, Microsoft does not give a launch date, whatever - real issues almost never stay hidden after that week, someone from the press will learn it from a developer.

^^^
Well I took the fact that MS showed the actual console and even allowed to take pictures of the motherboard, as a sign that the design is finalized and that all is well in that area.
I saw that as a "good sign".
If there were indeed issues probably they would not have showed it.

But hey maybe this is what MS wants me to think and I was fooled.

After whatever happened with NV2A, one would think Microsoft wouldn't repeat the same kind of deal (at least the part about having no control over the SoC's price during the later years).

should just put two together just in case.

Anyway I can believe the yield rumors , we've been hearing them from Charlie for at least 6 months as I said before. But I doubt the down clocks . If forza is running at 1080p 60 fps when would this change have happened ? It seems it would have scrwed with that game greatly if your loosing 40% of your performance.

The game can be 1080p 60FPS,now to what degree of IQ is the question.

As of now i would take anything coming from MS with a huge truck of salt, they are evading question and been evasive, that say allot this is not the same MS who on 2005 was very vocal about hardware specs, and that on 2001 was also very vocal as well.

Something definitely happen inside the xbox one, something bad that has people inside MS running, any one can argue this but the 2 pass presentation of MS can be found online you can see them and compare them to what today MS is doing.

This leaks from CBOAT is the one that really strike me,because when he say something he is basically spot on,which is the reason why people are taking this as confirmed, there was a rumor about MS paying developers to stop them from showing multiplatform games, any person here that doesn't believe that MS is capable of this doesn't know MS history of abuse and anti competitive story.

Oh and Bruceleeroy when saw who make the comment about MS paying to keep games from been show, and took it seriously apparently the dude also knows.

This comes in on a same time when a MS windows facebook page for another country actually had a photo of Killzone SF mix with photos MS games.

This are dirty tactics use,i think sony was caught one time using PGR images as GT ones to,is something that should not happen.

I don't know what is happening on MS but the fact that they cancel the post E3 rountable, the fact that they have refuse to come clean on hardware subject make it very easy to see that they don't want to give even a hint of impression that the xbox one is under power vs the PS4,MS always was face forward about spec always, now they don't even allow comments on youtube videos of the xbox one, because they don't want people to see negative comments.

GAF has some news here.

- Started to look into next gen and the answer they got from Microsoft intrigued them
- They said they needed to focus on fewer hardware. In the future they are open to more. They don't specify if it would be this project or another.

what does it mean?
XboxTwo Fall 2015?

Just because they have not answered the questions which intrigue you on a technical level does not mean they are being evasive. Unless you think large corporations owe you an explanation of there plans before they are ready to reveal them.

Cjail - That article link has some very interesting even impressive information.

Different supplier and different contract. Experience makes you better at understanding the requirements and getting them in a contract upfront.

there was alot more information in that link.

- Plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics and AI calculations
- Source Engine. Building new engine = too much time.
- Source gives them 60 fps
- Modified Source - "Rewriting major portions of it".

GI: "What XBox One lacks in RAM, it potentially makes up for in cloud computing." Talks about how the game will have unlimited dedicated servers for the game, offloading "a few dozen AI" and physics, says the game would be impossible without the cloud and wouldn't have attempted it. Still dealing with unfinished hardware and software, so it's "still a little rough going at times."

For every xbox they sell, they'll install an infinite number of cloud servers, providing unlimited imaginary power.
The previous claim of installing 3 times the xbox processing power per xbox sold didn't add up either. They can't spend 1000$ of rack equipment for every console sold, that would be the loss leader record of all time.

This sounds very much like my "unlimited**" mobile data plan.

Having full control and responsibility over the IP lead to some problems as well, and the upside looks more modest these days. Node transitions are becoming less common, so the freedom to shrink whenever it wants is gated by the reality that it won't have as many chances to shrink, and it's not an area of expertise for Microsoft.
Microsoft also wound up contracting much of the revision and redesign work back anyway.
To top it off, the architecture that would make developers most happy would not be one Microsoft could control.

How about splitting the difference, and adding the option for a set of node transitions and/or redesigns in the contract with the chip provider?

Yeah unlimited dedicated servers is totally believable

Thanks for the clarification

My bad, It was the way the poster worded those highlights.

On a side note, I thought specialized journalist would know that the competition doesn´t have full 8GB for games...

"GI points how that the Xbox One has 5GB of GDDR3 ram available to devs, whereas PS4 has 8GB DDR5 ram, and asks if that's a problem for Respawn. He says they're having trouble even using the 5GB efficiently with all the new architecture tricks. (that is to say, even if they had 8GB they wouldn't know how to use it properly at this stage of development)"

I hope some day, we read some of them here at b3d
