Naughty Dog using PS3 engine on PS4

I thought Ratchet & Clank looked great, but didn't really like the gameplay that much. Jak & Daxter was more fun, and I also loved Daxter on PSP. I would definitely love a cartoony platformer with great tech and production values, but another Uncharted-like game would be great too ...

Eh ? Daxter on PSP is better than the R&Cs on PS3 ? I gotta get it for my Vita then.

Matter of preference I guess, Daxter is a plattformer, R&C is a third person shooter. To me, R&C barely changed since the first game... but I think the overwhelming majory likes the same thing with new paint if CoD, Fifa etc are any indication

ND has pulled off the silly action movie block buster in a game thing with uncharted, they might be able to do the same with a Pixar style thing too, but it would be hard to do with Jak.
Pixar movies have very well constructed characters and universes, and Jak and Daxters is a little convoluted thanks to the major overhaults it went through with each game with each getting more and more edgy, gritty and GTAy. While that kind of personality crysis was comon and acepted on ps2 days, more profecionalism is expected today. They'd have to reboot it and stick to a specific style and tone more confidantly.
And there is the mechanical side of things too. They've specialized in very linear games with controled gameplay progression and level layout. Jak games are open world games involving platforming, shooting, driving, exploration, brawling, flying... That is a lot of stuff, and that type of game has evolved dramatically these last yars. Today they'd be competing against huge titles like GTAV, Assassins Creed, Saints Row, Watchdogs... It's tough competition.

Since Disney licences out their property now, perhaps they could try a pixar licence and work together on something ... I do think they could get away with another Uncharted, but The Last of US shows that at least critically, they are not tied to the licence.

Personally I think that ND can commit to any genre and be good.
Hell they went form platform to platform-open world TPS to survival horror and never missed the target...even CTR was super fun IMO.
Still Sucker Punch already is "specialized" in open world so Sony probably is the one that decides what genre ND should commit next and not ND itself.
Amy Hennig anyway did Soul Reaver so she has plenty of experience with non-linear/semi-open world games.

Actually, as a 3D platformer, J&D not only holds up really well, but it is the best platformer I can think of right now to let kids I have over play - 5,6 and 8. Only alternative really is Rayman Origins, which is a 2D platformer,or Little Big Planet, but these two get tricky quite fast, and don't offer nearly as much freedom to just go do something fun in the world.

It's actually a little sad, but also a testament to how good the game is. I'm glad Cerny decided to make a kid-friendly game, but obviously that's also far more linear.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will hopefully feature Pixar elements, and in any case the Disney worlds should hew closely to the originals. If that franchise is still viable after Square-Enix's fumbling of the IP it may scratch that stylistic itch.

I would prefer for Naughty Dog to explore new titles for new generations, as they have tended to do, instead of returning to Jak.

I really loved the Jak series, particularly the first one. I wouldn't mind if one of the ND teams returned to it... But I am also fine with Uncharted 4 :)
