Motorstorm screens

Now this is an UPGRADE. Judging by those little screens though.

Fine. From the color to the motion blur to the mud splatter to the sheer mayhem presented in those screenshots, for many (regular) people these shots would be considered near-render level. I just say that they look very nice; way beyond my expectation for this game and way closer to the render from last years e3 than I ever expected. I was one of the first people to hype the quality of the render way back when (and I'm a "xboy") and for now this looks good enough. Really. It does. Could they do more or do better? sure. And I expect it. The more and better they do, the closer we get to the render... if thats just my logic then...

Yes, but those small pictures are not indicative what the game actually looks like. There has been "real" size pictures in this thread and they don't look nearly as good as these small pictures. However it does look pretty good to me and there is a good change that this game is hugely fun multiplayer game.

"personally" i like these screens better... the whys and wherefores of which i explained in several posts...

I'd say you didn't do very good job on explaining your opinion then.

The style and quality of the assets may be a matter of personal taste; but on the technical side Resistance has wahsed out textures on flat surfaces, single inaccurate shadows, flat lighting, very simple atmospherics and smokes, and I can in fact see a lot of poly edges there. And it's an uber-AA devkit shot, ingame it'll be worse in its quality.

It's not a bad looking game at all, but don't fool yourself, and absolutely don't expect us to get fooled by you...

..and I think we all know by now you don't like much about the PS3..sjees man. O, and don't speak like you tell the truth or anything because its just 1 opinion.

gotcha. the small screens do hide the flaws (as expected). I do revise my opinion on the current quality of the still photo photo graphics downwards vis-a-vis the renders, yet I still believe that since this is a launch title, sometime later in the lives of PS3 and x360 we will approach those renders or at the very least hit crysis level graphics... that I think is fair...

I hope you are right and I also feel that the latter is definately possible, though I'm no expert on the matter.:)

It's quite the opposite actually, the small screens are much more representative of how the game will look in motion than the bigger ones.

Is that because the smaller pictures are wrong resolution instead of the bigger ones that are correct resolution?...

No it's because when you play a game on a HD screen most of the IQ problems in the screens are gone hidden by the TV and at the same time with all the things happening on screen you have much more things to be impressed about.
It happens with all games but I suggest you to compare the early screens of this game with the movies from the E3 demo (which lacked a lot of things compared to this recent build),it's a night and day difference. If there will be the same difference between these new screens and the TGS demo then the game will look absolutely amazing.

It must be good to be a colombian drug lord in 2006. By the looks of it drug use is on the rise lately.
www.beyond3D.com should set up a drug and alchool test before registration in the forum I guess.

While there is some truth in this, I think there still is more misinformation. Those flaws will be visible on HDTV while playing.
I think he meant that the majority of people out there will be playing MotorStorm on their SDTV set, thus playing the game in a lower res than the high res shots you talked about.

Somehow I know your response would've been alot friendlier if he was praising a 360 game. Call it a hunch, but I'm pretty sure on that!

You don't gotta bag people because their 'opinion' doesn't ring true with your uber high tech graphics knowledge. His cup of coffee could be your bag of sh*t! It don't change the fact that he just happens to enjoy a games presentation and feels satisfied that the dev's have done well to deserve the praise.

You're a great fountain of wisdom man, but you gotta be a little more balanced for me to take what you say seriously sometimes.

...I just think Resistance is of high enough quality at its current stage to make the render footage of games like Killzone and the actual footage of games like Crysis reasonable within this generation on both systems
Agreed. Going by what great dev's have managed on the PS2 in it's latter stages, I for one hold alot of faith that the PS3 will match it's 'target renders' from E3 '05. It may not fool our inhouse super duper knowledgable graphics guy over there ^ but I'm sure it'll do for most of us. Meanwhile, the journey there is already looking very promising and I'm quietly confident industry is on the right path getting there.

Motorstorm ingame shots do not look better than the prerendered video in any technical points. And I also think that while there's room for subjectivity and personal taste, it's still safe to state that they aren't as good esthetically either.

Besides, he already admitted that his first opionion was based on the small images wwhich hide a lot of the flaws.
