Motorstorm 2

MotorStorm looked at its best with the hood-cam combined with dust being kicked up by other cars and some great late-afternoon sun setting that dust on fire. It looks awesome. This game is very likely to end up in my PS3. ;)

When I say barely better I mean overall (emphasis on lighting, textures and effects), so far. Aside from that the water and vegetation is in comparision with other games for all platforms (except Wii and last-gen consoles of course!).

C'mon, maybe reduce it to 2 player split screen and more visuals.Anyway, I won't be able to see anyhting in 4 tiny splitscreens. Make it 2 and more visual quality!
They should keep 4 but use reduced assets instead. It's not like they will have storage space problems.

Yes, after I become familiar with the tracks... I sometimes switch to hood view for the trills. But in third person view, I can see the AI taunting better. From a player's point of view, I hope they don't "forget" the taunting while hammering out all those technical and formal gameplay additions.

The AI's naughty reaction is part of MotorStorm's signature.

MS 1 got a massive tweak in graphics in the final few months, I think it's how they work. Get everything they want running at a reasonable level, then see how far they can push the engine when that's done.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a massive increase in quality just before the game is released (Not that I think it looks worse than the original now anyway, but each to their own I guess)

Even the US and Euro versions looked better than the Japan versions.

Oh and they reduce effects or something for split screen...

It's probably an apple vs orange comparison because the required gameplay interaction is different (I have no idea why we need fully destructible and soft plants in MotorStorm 2 for instance).

It looks damn good! I wonder if they will still have the same type of procedural vehicle destruction they had in the first one.

It looks like everything I loved about the game is still there. So this would be a no-brainer for me. According to this video, they also made it possible to abort the crash animation (Press X). Then they have split screen for four. The only thing left to address in the first game is the vehicle load time. ;-)

Hopefully, vehicle load time will be short or non-existent. I can hardly wait! :D

I have only a handful of PS3 games, but Motorstorm is one of them -- and the one I played most.

I think this game looks a lot better than people give it credit for, but I think I can understand where they're coming from. The desert locale of the first is a lot easier to great a photorealistic look with than jungle/tropical foilage. There's still something that looks fake/CG to me about the foilage but I'm not sure current-gen consoles are fast enough to make them look completely realistic. The desert was just a better locale from a photorealistic setting.

Technically, there's no doubt in my mind that MS2 is pushing a lot more of everything.

What I am concerned with is how this is only 40% done if it's supposed to be out in fall? One of these two statements is a lie, I think.

Its the usual BS numbers that get thrown around, it doesn't mean much other than giving some idea of their process. The number itself isn't necessarily accurate, but it gives you a rough idea of their progress.

Think of it like PC progress bars. Your bar can get all the way to 90% in a few seconds and then sit there for minutes, or can take a minute to get to 30% and then rush to the end! Progress can be measured (or guessed) in amount of work rather than amount of time.

I thought the same thing. I hope it's a BS number to sweep the bugs and stuff in the demo under the rug. I can live with the same graphics as MS1, just give me course variety, faster loading times and the split screen. This is on top of my must get list for fall/winter games (with Gears2 and R2).
