Motorstorm 2

Looks great. This game is climbing higher on my list of must-buys ... I think I'll be starting with making my seasonal shopping list early this year. ;)

They should do something about the AI, because the AI in Motorstorm was terrible. Otherwise I am not really interested in it...

I was never interested in Motorstorm for the AI, but for the basic gameplay experience and the multiplayer. The split-screen is the most important addition for me. Especially in multi-player I'm fine with AI just filling out the screen with dust and explosions all over the place for us humans to drive through and collide with.

However, of course for people who like it as a single player experience, I would definitely prefer a boost-less experience, as I always do for racing games. I never got very far into the single player to be honest.

Looks good but not that impressive
Where is the sweet ground deformation?

I hope they will add it back

I quite liked Motorstorm's AI for doing so many different things during the race. The only thing I didn't like was the extreme rubberband AI. You could be in first place and crash before the finish line and end up in last place.

Couldnt you disable that?

Maybe that was just in Online..

Or vice versa, which is great in my opinion.
Thus I like rubberband AI, you are mostly head to head with other guys.

The fact that later races in the game requires perfection is not really fault of "rubberbandness". And given that perfection in early races leads large head rooms tells me AI is pretty flexible.

Would anyone really want to be racing in front or in the back alone during the whole race?

That crowdedness is one of the selling points of Motorstorm.

I think we all rememner the graphical update process that Motorstorm 1 went though, it went from looking like complete garbage into a stunning looking game.

Just imgine if Motorstorm 2 has the same upgrade process, it could end up looking 2-3x better by release :)

:nope: I completely disagree here. Extreme rubberband AI is just a clutch for weak AI in the first place. It completely ruined the game and added to the gamers' frustration. Make a slightly less perfect turn the last corner 3 cars rush past, restart game, rinse and repeat. A game should reward good driving, and not completely ignore it until the final 50 virtual meters. It's unfair and completely breaks the game.

I am torned. I like rubberband AI when I su*k. As betan mentioned, it helps to bring the player back into the action. I enjoyed MotorStorm greatly because of this.

But I have also seen many people complaining about the same AI. I think some also hated the extremely aggressive AI in later stages. Perhaps some sort of switches can be implemented ? Like how GT5:p has noob and pro settings.

Are you saying there aren't any events where you can have a large lead early on if you drive good in the game? Just curious.

Anyway, maybe that's the difference between "casual" racers like myself and hardcores.

Motorstorm is the only racer I really liked since Lotus days.

I want to be able make mistakes early in the race, I want those last second wins, I want to be able to see the others, not left behind around the first corner, I want the trill of knowing that they are just behind me, waiting for me to make a mistake.

I can also argue the fact that rubberband AI gives you more tolerance early in the race lets the player get used to the track with that vehicle. Assuming most mistakes are made early, isn't that the better racing model?

I'm glad they have rubberband AI, I would not play the game otherwise.
In other racers I tried, when I crush or spin at any point, I simply restart, where is the joy in that?
Of course at later tickets, the effect of rubberband AI disappears completely making the discussion mood.

New video of gameplay:

really nice, I realy like the scale, especially the waterfall part you see it in the background then pass under i, really nice ;)

Interestingly I find that some particles effects have the same "density" as in KzII.

Looks clearly way better than the last Pure footages I watched.

Let's see, low res ground textures, toy vehicles, acceptable water, poor but seemingly unavoidable splash effects, decent track geometry, awesome background detail (some of which you end up driving through) and much improved vegetation.

OK this may sound mostly negative, but I'm actually shocked how much more the game does compared to the first one.

When the setting was first revealed I had my concerns regarding rendering decent tropical environment. The first gameplay footage looked to be a confirmation.

Yet, they almost solved the biggest part, the vegetation issue, the rest should be much easier now.

Ahem, not enough "fighting" plants ! ^_^
I only saw one instance in the video.

Please add more naughty driver behaviours ;-)
...and more vicious/tricky jump points.

Just watched the gameplay video. It looks really good.

I passed on the first Motorstorm I thought it looked good, but it felt too barebones like a lauch game (I know they improved on it as time went by). This one I am sure to buy though.
