Too big contrast.

Hey. Who did Microsoft hire for advertising??

JVD can't you understand that no one is attacking the XB360 HW itself or the specs, but MS's botched event?
you attacking unfinished games acting like this is what the games will look like at launch and claiming that showing cgi and lieing to customers would be better .

I don't really understand that logic . I don't like to be lied to.

PS1/N64 -> DC/PS2 there was 2-4x jump in screen resolution and 2-4x jump in color resolution, along with increase in internal precision of the new rasterizers.
There was no real FSAA but those factors alone were a big jump in IQ - there's a reason why people were going gaga over PS2 techdemos - and they were an aliased, lowres mess(all of them, without exception) compared to modern PS2 games.
Right and the xenon has made a bigger leap with fsaa and advanced filtering

As for the ps2 techdemos only one was impressive ( the ff ballroom ) and it was never seen in game . Also some ps2 launch titles (And afterwards ) were not running in the same res as the dreamcast .

Look i have every system in my house or in storage . I have seen every transition and the graphics diffrence in first gen games is barely non exsistant .

Btw my sister owns that tekken game , its in her room actually right now with her ps2 jap edition . I've seen it in action.

Yes, I know there is 5 months left. But here is why we are skeptical. First, you cannot just change things overnight. I have never seen a game make a complete make over in 5 months.
Virtual fighter 3 for the dreamcast . First few screens on dev kits looked awful . The game released and looked really good .

Or how about the diffrence between a game i mentioned alot here. Tekken tag for the ps2 . Japan launch was horrible , the game was horrible looking and it improved greatly for the usa launch.

As for why they didn't show other games perhaps pdz was the only game that was in good enough shape in the gameplay department . Remember there were actual people playing the game . We don't know how well condemed or the other games play . However it apears that multiplayer was working on pdz

The next problem is PDZ is running at 20fps.
Do we have actual proof of this ? Watching the footage on the mtv special the game was running smooth and some people are saying its smooth on the other hand ign is saying its not .

Do you think PDZ looks good (compared to current gen *and* when compared to the other titles like Gears of War, GR3, Condemned... I want to hear your thoughts on both), or are you optimistic it will get a LOT better in 5 months?

I think pdz right now looks fine from what i've seen of it in motion . Do I want it to look better ? Yes , Do i beliee it will be better in 5 months ? Yes .

Why do I think this ? Well the game was moved from gc to xbox to x360. The game was playable with multi player and people are saying it played well (though framerate might be an issue ). So to me once gameplay is good and the porting is done then they can play around and up polygon counts and replace the textures which i'm sure they are working on since this was original made for a console withwhat 32 megs of ram and then 64 and now its on a console with 512 megs .

SO i'm sure things will move foward . I thin keverything they showed look fine and in 5 months time will make great launch titles on par with any launch we have seen .

Do launch titles look better than pervious generation titles ? Sure , Do they make a huge leap like people here are expecting ? No . Do they take advantage of the hardware they are on ? No

These are launch titles , they are ports or rushed products and yes there will be gems . There are allways 1 or 2 gems at launch .

The problem here is everyone is complaing about graphics on a site that should know better that devs don't hae the final hardware kits yet and most games are no where near finished. I can expect this chicken little thing on gaf or ign but here ? Come on we are better than that

What the HELL was MS thinking? They showed maybe 2 minutes of actual game footage (but hey, I've got to listen to 3 minutes of "pro-gamers" explaining how awesome they are, so I guess my day was complete after all) of which about 20 seconds did not look like crap.

I do believe the PDZ was shown in only multiplayer aspect correct? Well if thats the case and the rumored 32+ (Maybe 50+) online support there may have something to do with the unimpressive graphics. But as mentioned before, we have 5 months till launch and it is possible to tighten gameplay and graphics in that time frame. (To my knowledge developers only recently started getting the FINAL HARDWARE to run on). I think everyone is making a little bit too much out of this because I didnt see any single player aspect of the game what so ever. I for one will wait for Launch day for the end result and even E3 for gameplay. Not a pieced together multiplayer version.

With as long as PDZ has been in development I have little doubt that the story line etc is probably finished. Its now putting the final touches on tightening levels, graphics, and gameplay mechanics, then squeezing the most you can out of the system that you can (and retain gameplay etc.) until the launch date.

If by all accounts the game isnt up to par, I wouldnt put it past M$ to push back the release date. It might anger many gamers but I think M$ would rather give gamers the game they expect from PDZ then destroy the brand set by PD. Then again you just never know

jvd, you are missing the point. Whether the game was finished, unfinished or not even started is irrelevant. The goal of the infomercial was to impress people with next-generation graphics.

Mission not accomplished.

I dissagree .

It may not wow fanboys on forums . But i think alot of people will be preordering the x360 in the comic days . Alot of people from which this special was targeting .

So you have to be a "forum fanboy" to be underwhelmed by PDZ graphics?

perhaps . I've already heard from other people that don't post on here (Friends from class , work , famly ) that they thought it was cool and are thinking about getting one .

Not everyone sits around and picks apart graphics . People see the system , think its cool , see the other features like the online stuff , think its cool , see some titles coming on , see that they can play 50 people multi on perfect dark far beyond anything i've ever heard of on a console and saw next gen madden and they were happy .

Sure many people are happy with what has been shown of xbox360, it is better than this gen consoles after all, has more functions and is in every area a noticeable improvement, especially in regard supporting high def monitors. That'll be enough incentive for many buyers.

But will it be enough if Nintendo and Sony come with much more impressive showing at E3. It doesn't matter whether they show actual gameplay footage or concept prerenders, but people already have sampled what actual, playable xbox360 game looks like, and I think it is not good for xbox360 and Microsoft in hype point-of-view.

I am reading a thread on one of the NFL message boards right now, with general reaction being "lame" "why didn't they show more games" and "the killers suck". Not quite as scientifically accurate as comprehensive jvd friends and family survey, but still. BTW, how many casual viewers (read: people generally not interested in video games) have been watching Xbox special?

On cable?

On MTV?

At 9:30 EST?

if you like tech demos which we never seen in game then yea i will agree

PS2 out perform the tech demos shown before launch. In fact, the tech demos don’t even look as good now compared to the better looking games available. A quick example: they showed a GT tech demo. ALL GT games that appeared on PS2 looked better than that demo.

Tekken 3 psone looked better than tekken 3 tag on ps2 japan launch

tell me you’re drunk…

and for those who want to know the difference between the Jap and US versions of Tekken, it wasn’t much; frame rate, progressive scan, and that’s about it.

And for the record, every single pic of PS2 in-game graphics was jaw-dropping and mind-blowing. ESPECIALLY compared to PSOne.

I don't know what to make of these pics. The Joanna they showed on MTV looks nothing like the one they're showing here. It was more in line with the artwork.

Is this e3 ? Ms can have other things to show at e3 like the games others are already drooling over on gametrailers .
So far they have one example of a playable game that looks fine and was actually playable in multiplay . If you watched the mtv special what they showed of pdz looked fine . It looked better in motion than those screen shots
and all the while they were getting the fact that 50 people will be able to play at once pounded into thier head

Well people told me they wanted to see more games too. Who wouldn't ? There will be 30 games by the end of the year at least . To me thats really good . They didn't drive that home but there is e3 and this was a 24 min show on mtv .

As for the rest remember this was for a casual mtv audiance . Basicly the people watching mtv at 9:30 at night are people like my little cousin ashlyn (13 ) and her friends . My little cousin was actually over here when it was on and she liked that she can change the front of it which i'm amazed at but then again her age group they all have 2 or 3 diffrent phone covers , 2 or 3 ipod cases to change what it looks like . So while i think its pretyy dumb i'm obviously not hte market that its aimed at .

She was interested in it . Of course she isn't a video game player though she has a ps2 (got it for her off the back of a truck for 150$ with 3 games when it launched)

Haven't seen anything that surpased the ballroom ff scene

Na only 2 beers in me and btw the diffrence between the games are night and day .

[rolls over and sits up from drunken stupor...]

Ahh-p, y'all are a bunch Sony fanbois! Leave that poor little XB2 game alone. He ain't heavy, he's my brother! [passes out again]

what was showing of PD0 really sucked. it doesnt matter what it will look like in 5 months. im sure the rest of the games were running on the same unfinished hardware but yet they trounced it. you gotta be a blind M$ fanboy to deny the fact that at this point PD0 is crap looking.

jvd performance in this thread deserve a standing ovation. Really. *clap clap clap*

They may have got it to render with a full-size display buffer, but it certainly didn't output proscan.
