Mass Effect 3

I think this was more or less known or at least strongly hinted at for quite some time. I'm happy they'll do at least something. I'm confident that the extra content won't in anyway harm the ones who already enjoyed the ending and should improve it a bit for the rest of us. I'm sure I am still going to have many fundamental issues with the ending, but it's nice that we got an actual response with free additional content.

I wonder how the hell they intend to create any type of satisfying conclusion from the cluster**** they left behind ... it would be phenomenally cowardly if they just do a bit about the surviving crew and leave all the questions about what happens to the universe, Sheperd and the solar system unanswered ... which is thus what I expect.

I just wonder how I'll access the content... do I have to replay the last two missions (where the game dumps you after the end of the game)???

I remember seeing a "saving game" notice walking along the dark hallway in the citadel at the end. Maybe the try loading an autosave to see.

That's a nice surprise (so soon!). Been playing it quite a bit lately, and I don't doubt I'll be playing it for awhile longer since I have nothing else on my radar really.

What I expected was an ending where I didn't stab Legion in the back one way or another, every option stabs him in the back though.

Funnily enough, it's exactly "lots of speculation from everyone".

More like speculation from one person, at most a group of people, who did the website. I and anyone else who visited that site didn't have to headcanon our own endings, merely input our own game results and received the speculation/fanfic from that site.

Btw, here's an unofficial interview from Patrick Weekes (one of the ME3 writers) with a fan at PAX. Didn't sound like he was in favor of such an opened-to-interpretation ending -- he tried to clear some things up on more of a positive note. He did the Tuchunka missions, which were probably some of the best in the game.

Just do geth on firebase white. If you camp the room furthest from the landing zone it's not too bad, none will spawn behind you. Obviously that only works if you get all target missions, so you'll still have to overcome those, but just save up rockets for 3, 6 and 10.

Yeah, already tried that. :p I just haven't had any good runs with the objectives. Always shitty ones, and definitely not the right mix of classes. Oh well.

ME is similarly structured like the film version of the Lord of Rings, the ending of the films doesn't revolve around what happens to middle earth after the ring is destroyed, it revolves around what happens to Frodo and the other characters after they complete their task. This is the reason a lot of people are dissatisfied with the ending of ME3, the resolution of the premise is the least relevant part of the game which is built around characters' stories.
Spoilers below. I don't see a button to add the tags.

I loved The Lord of the Rings movies in general, but the last 30 minutes was boring. I actually liked Mass Effect 3's ending better.
Though I was surprised people on Earth were killed when I destroyed the Reapers as I thought organics would live. I also didn't see any of my squad on the Normandy as a few people mentioned.

Multiple people mentioned three endings, but I only had two choices. Control and destruction. Does anyone know what I might have done to not get the synthesis choice?

All of that depends on your Effective Military Strength (total military strength * galactic readiness):

  • If EMS is between 0-1749, only the Destroy or Control option will be available (depends of destroying or saving the Collector Base) and it will result in massive physical damage to the galaxy.
  • If EMS is between 1750-2349, the choice between Destroy or Control options becomes available, but either choice will cause some substantial damage to the galaxy.
  • If EMS is between 2350-2649, the Control option will cause no physical damage and the Destroy option will still massively damage the galaxy.
  • If EMS is 2650+ the Destroy and Control options will no longer cause any physical harm to the galaxy.
  • If EMS is 2800+ the Synthesis ending becomes available.
  • If EMS is 4000+ and the Destroy option is chosen, Shepard is seen barely alive, gasping for breath. (If Anderson is shot by the Illusive Man, the player needs 5000+ EMS to see this short scene)
Regarding the Normandy crew at the end:

  • If EMS is substantially low (below ~2000), nobody exits the Normandy.
  • If EMS is moderately high (above minimum, below maximum) and Destroy or Control are chosen, Joker and the player's most-favored crew mate (the one you talked to the most?) will exit the ship.
  • If Synthesis is chosen, Joker, EDI, and the player's most-favored crew member will exit the ship. Joker and EDI will embrace.
  • If EMS is 4000+ then three crew members will exit in the Destroy and Control endings; Joker and two of the player's most-favored crew mates.

Currently the highest obtainable War Assets is above 7700, half of which is clearly far from the needed 4000 ESM to unlock all possible endings (if a player ops not to play multiplayer), this is however, extremely hard to achieve as it will require meticulous planning of combinations of different Paragon and Renegade choices throughout the entire trilogy (DLC included).
So yeah, there are some bonus war assets depending on who survived from ME2 and then some other miscellaneous items (can't remember). If you start a fresh ME3 character (no import), then you'll probably miss out on a few of the assets that you could get.

It stinks that they require multiplayer to get a good score. I almost always play through a single player campaign before playing multiplayer. My military strength was over 4000, but I guess because my galactic readiness never moved from 50% I had a low effective score.

These seem like arbitrary endings that have nothing to do with military strength. I figured a high strength would make it easier to make it to the ending and affect who lived or died, not how much of the galaxy was destroyed after the battle. Weird. Especially since the Catalyst gave a much different impression of what would happen. I guess that's my main problem with it.

I had effective strength of 3400 and I only played singleplayer. I did pretty much everything though, scanned all the planets for assets and did all the Citadel side missions. My playthrough took 41 hours.
