Mass Effect 3

I can't get the patch to activate. Tried on my first run through, tried with a completed save (that puts you back before the attack on Cerberus) twice, I've wasted about 6 hours trying to get the extended ending and all it's done is further sour the Mass Effect experience.

Won't be buying any of the Mass Effect 3 DLC, or Mass Effect 4, or anything else from Bioware.

Really? The ending was a bit naff but the build up/rest of the game was good. ME3 was the best game in the series overall for me.

The Citadel DLC is brilliant by the way.

Yeah it's been getting a lot of positive attention. I've yet to play it, I'm currently in ME2 on my full trilogy playtrough.

What is the Citadel DLC about? What is good about it...maybe I need to buy it?!?

It's lighter than we're used to with ME, they made me laugh, and once you've finished the mission there's the arena, some arcade/casino minigames and a party I haven't reached yet.

Forgot what I didn't like about bioware, remembered after five minutes if sub 25 fps garbage.

At least it was free.

Started playing the Citadel DLC. It's pretty well done, and a good length too. Then I'll play the other two DLC and play through the extended ending.

I just started from scratch as well (again). Thanks to the recent ME1 release on PSN my Shepard comes with lenghty ME history now, and it really does seem to make a difference. Also bought a lot of dlc to go along with it (all the sp add-ons sans Omega. 35€ - yikes.). Locking From Ashes behind a pay wall was a huge dick move on EA's behalf as far as I'm concerned. After all, this really isn't some little piece of self-contained story telling like Shadow Broker was. It's certainly no throwaway character like Zaeed (sp?) was either. From Ashes really should have been in the game for everyone.

I really like ME3. More so than ME2 actually. It's just a lot more fun to play from a tps perspective.

I tried this for a bit with Story mode. Basically means you're invulnerable and only need to hit the target a few times to kill it. Even then though, it's useless for my wife.

It's not really grabbing me yet though. But I do like the design of the spacecraft.

Did you play the other two? I think if there's one game series where coming in at a later point is truly detrimental to the experience it's probably Mass Effect.

And if you are gonna play it I really suggest going the full rpg experience. The fact that you could pretty much turn off all that stuff had me kinda worried. Turns out they've expanded all that stuff a great deal when compared to ME2. There's a lot more tinkering with stats and weapon mods in ME3 if that is what you want, snd where I found ME2 to be a little bit dull in the action department (it was cover based shooting at its most whack-a-mole-ish), ME3's action is a lot more fast-paced, dynamic and just plain accomplished. Killing stuf in ME3 is pretty damn entertaining.

I'm also quite surprised how much better the game looks. I miss the grain filter, though.

You really should play the first games before ME3. You wouldn't watch Return of the Jedi before Epidodes IV-V?

The logic behind DLCs is that it can keep a studio's artists, level designers and other non-lead people doing paid work while a small core team does the R&D and conceptual work for the next title. This way they don't have to fire dozens of good people because they can't earn their pay.

So, content creation for DLC is started while the game is undergoing beta testing and bug fixing, far too late to be included in the boxed game.

I tried both 1 and 2, but I just really didn't like them. I was hoping I ust didn't like the fighting mechanics, but it seems I don't like any aspect of this series at all.

(And Return of the Jedi stands on its own quite well actually ;) )

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they could have been included in the original release. They're just such good additions to the game that they would have been great during the first play through. The Citadel DLC is absolutely massive and Leviathan is a nice addition to the story.

They really didn't get the combat right until Mass Effect 3, so if you're not into the story or the interactive dialog bits, I can see how it you wouldn't get into them.

Imo the combat still isn't that good. I just finished Gears of War 3 and went back to Citadel DLC and boy did it feel clumsy and awkward after Gears. Nice DLC though, doing 183 pull ups took some time and it didn't even give an achievement for it! :)

Well, you can't pull or slam enemies, use stasis on them, get close instantly with a biotic rush or trigger warp detonations with shockwaves in Gears. That's what makes the combat fun in ME3. The shooting may only be fairly decent when compared to the best out there, but it's nowhere near the complete picture.

I have never, ever, had such a difficult time just simply getting DLC to run (this is in regards to the Citadel expansion on the 360). Then again, ME is one of the few games I've ever bothered to purchase DLC for, so, perhaps my sample base is limited. :p Regardless, I had an unbelievably difficult time getting both parts to properly download through Live. It took at least 8 attempts total, with various combinations of clearing the incomplete downloads via Storage Management, and then re-download attempts directly from Live on the 360, the Live web paged with it added to download queue, download history on the 360 and the game's download section directly. The game's download section was the only effective method. And the parts are labeled incorrectly on the HDD. Part 1 shows as part 2 on the drive, and part 2 as 1.

All that aside, I can safely say that while on a certain level it doesn't really feel like its worth the $15, I really enjoyed it and if I had to do it over again I'd still pay the full price and deal with the hassles (even in hindsight). For anyone invested in the/their characters, even if they're disappointed with the ending, it's probably worth a look.
