Mass Effect 3

I know it's smaller than ME1, but smaller than ME2? That's silly. I actually hated jogging around that much empty space after awhile (fun the first time, not the next 8 play throughs). If I wanted to do sightseeing, I could do that fine from a distance now. Shepard has more important things to do than try to visit the entire damn citadel to solve their menial issues now.

Just out of curiosity, what were you expecting? I was left wanting more to the epilogue (aftermath of the battle) from the POV of the races. That said, the short bit between
Shepard and Anderson having the best seats in the house was nice.

I like the way the Citadel was designed in this one. You can leave the Normandy and automatically transport to the appropriate part of the Citadel, rather than jogging through the whole thing all of the time. The Citadel in Mass Effect 1 looked pretty cool, but it was mostly open and empty space that really didn't offer anything. I'd say Mass Effect 3 citadel > 1 citadel > 2 citadel.

Overall, I do like the combat in 3 the best, but the cover mechanics are a bit borked. Mass Effect 1 really had overall poor combat, as either a shooter or an RPG. It tried to straddle the line, and it didn't work. They chose to go the shooter route, and I think the decision paid off. They could have gone to the pure tactical RPG route and I would have been happy with that too. What they'd done in Mass Effect 1 really wasn't very good, despite it being one of my favourite early games this gen.

I think the graphics overall are very nice, even with some of the weird bugs I've mentioned. Hopefully a patch can iron some of those out. Some of them seem to be scripting problems and not technically issues (facing the wrong way etc).

Ending
Worst ending ever! Even worse than Killzone 3 just the fact that this was suppose to be the epic conclusion to the triology

The squadmates are still bumbling idiots. They are only there for the extra power juice to take down shields or defeat heavy armored mechs and such. Biotics have more use if you are 1 of the 3 classes that use them but overall Ashley and James are still the most effective at doing damage. In other words any squadmate that plays closest to solider and able to lay down effective fire with their ammo types and grenades are going to make the game easier for you.
I dunno. My most uttered phrase (besides "sniper rifle" and "assault rifle" to switch between my fav weapons) is "Liara - Singularity!". I say that _a lot_. :)

When you begin running into whole squads of Cerberus agents that are full of shields or reaper husks looking things full of barriers you're going to quickly realizing upgrading Liara's warp ammo is more beneficial than using singularity. Singularity is only useful when they are full of red having no defensive layer. Playing on Insanity now and everyone has shield layers.

Ohnoooo I have to go to work today and then next week again, it'll be at least a week or more before I can see the ending and join the discussion, nooooo :)

Good tip about the warp ammo though. But you can completely reassign everyone's skill points in this game, right? And it's free, at least for the first time, as I've seen it in the med bay...

Yep. Although... for some reason, Javik doesn't show up there at all. :???:

I don't like how some of the characters have a point assigned by default thus making me have to reassign. Sometimes I just don't like the default power the character comes with.

Is the AI smart enough this time for party members to not use squad ammo powers?

Don't tell with affirmative, but only one of them had squad amno powers actually and when AI used it, and check in at the power wheel, this not affect my gun, I'm have to re-use it to have the amno power on my gun. But not really checked this, so not a certificated data. ;)

I think I still have a long way to go, but it keeps getting better and better. Really enjoying this one. Have to say Mass Effect is my favorite game series as a whole. I'd love to see how some of the situations played out for other people, having made different choices. This one has made me think heavily on some of the choices I'm making.

Anyone know when to find Conrad Verner? I know he's supposed to be in the docks at some point, but I never ran into him in my first playthrough. :s

Heh just ran in to him right after I read your post. He appears after a short side mission at the docks. You get a mission from a doctor, which has you calibrating few med gel automats.
The mission opens after the Cerberus attack on the Citadel, it has an interesting tie in to another character from ME1, but I don't remember if you had an option to change her fate in ME1...

I've put around 25h in this so far. Heh just when I managed to clear side missions from my journal, I suddenly got like 20 more missions on there...
Again at the Citadel after the Cerberus attack

The disc swapping has been somewhat annoying, annoyance magnified by the fact that I have both discs installed, but MS for some reason is unwilling to make that work properly... Other than that it's been one hell of a ride! Even if the ending disappoints me, the game has so far delivered big time and the journey has certainly been worth it.

Storytelling has been absolutely fantastic. Plenty of memorable moments coming in at a constant stream. I like the way old crew and events are coming together, although
why is Bioware hiding Miranda from me, her excuse for staying away from Normandy was somewhat weak compared to the other excuses by the "runaways" I sent Ashley to Hacket already so Miranda should definitely come back or I might be tempted by that IGN chick :)

Ah.. odd. I didn't run into him when I did that quest. Wonder if there are certain conditions needed from previous games.

Really? I don't think I've swapped that many times. If you do Palaven after Mars, you should be on disc 2 for the majority of the game, no?

Disc 1 is basically the main missions with all the pre-rendered movies.

James had activated the ammo power and it didn't seem to affect me. Had to do it manually.

I read a bit about him and now I remembered that I actually ran in to him already when I first arrived at Citadel, he was recruiting for Cerberus and then he appeared again the way I mentioned. I also found out that the tie-in person actually makes a big difference, but is not requisite for him to appear.

I had quite a bit of swapping, not so much lately though, but in the first 10h I did often. I don't think I went to Palaven straight away, but the beginning is getting a bit hazy already. I at least did From the ashes before Palaven, but probably some other stuff as well. I must have alternated with the missions in way that presented me the worst case scenario or something :)

hm... odd, never ran into him!

The ending... Why? After getting attached to the characters Bioware proceeds to rape you emotionally.

Added spoiler tags.

Ending discussion :
Kyyla : Purely the author waving his dick around, if you read the interviews he is oh so proud of not giving the players a satisfying ending (while talking about player agency in other sections, ugh).

Bioware management really fucked up by letting him get away with this ... killing the current Mass Effect universe was an incredibly bad business decision.

I tried firing up a male-shep, it's just night and day difference: fem-shep literally takes the cake and it ain't even close. Male-shep comes off as aloof, clueless and lifeless, he delivers lines with no sense that the fate of the galaxy is at its end. Almost as if he just showed up to read the line to get paid. I really wanted to rekindle my relationship with Ashley but now I don't think I'll bother. Just going to re-up female Vanguard on a full insanity run and call it quits.

Seeing a lot of complaints on the ending. I'm not there yet but I'm dreading it, even though I don't know it. The thing is, I'm 14 hours in and I'm having the gaming time of my life.

But the ending complaints I see are coming from some of Mass effect's biggest fans. The ones who have played ME1 & ME2 over and over again. From people who have made multiple Shepards, and they are saying that the ending has effectively killed much of their enthusiasm for the ME universe.

Did Bioware get too cute, and went for the "artsy" finish. Like parents who give their kids dumb names. Sure they get kudos from other parents for being imaginative, but it's the kid that has to live with the stupid name. Bioware gets pats on the back from fellow devs on the "brave way" to end the story, but it's the players who are invested in their Shepards and the ME universe that have to live with it.
