Last of Us [PS4]

a comparison from GAF,

new texture and more complex geometry. Wish they have redo the foliage texture though. AA can be better even if they use the same one, remember POST AA works better at higher resolution.

I prefer the clarity of the top version with less polygons than the additionnal completely blurred polygons & higher textures of the down version.

The rock texture on PS3 seems at a slightly higher resolution than the rock texture on the PS4. Also all the geometry details (like grass) are worse on the PS4 version.

In perceived resolution: 720p with non-blurring AA > heavily blurred/washed out 1080p image.

But I assume the final version won't look like that. That's certainly not a direct capture nor a final version.

It's a youtube video...

I know that's why I said that the final game would probably not look like that.

But they could have done a better youtube video/trailer. I have seen much better image quality even with Youtube videos. Very much better Youtube videos for some next gen games like for instance some Infamous 1080p youtube videos. And they knew people would do gifs (well jpg here) comparing both versions.

And this comparison will obviously disappoint many people, even if, again, I am sure the real game will be much better than this blurry mess compressed Youtube video.

You guys really do crack me up.

How can you really expect ND to be:

1. Working on a new Uncharted game
2. Working on a new franchise which we are still not sure about
AND
3. Basically remake the whole of TLOU with completely new assets everywhere. Plus new IQ, lighting, shading, #everything.

All at the same time

How?

Some of you really need to work on setting your expectations right. On this and oh so many other threads in this forum.

And surely we want them to focus on their new, built-from-the-ground-up-for-ps4 games. Instead of working on making a ps3 game look a bit better. Priorities people!

I can't be the only one, right? Right??

Ok I'll go back to my cave now :runaway:

Naughty Dog are working on a new franchise!?!?!

Highly doubt it, specially after TLOU selling over 6 million copies. Biggest ND game since Crash Bandicoot. And Sony needs the cash.

Hopefully they have some sort of upgrade option
for people who already own the game on ps3.
I wouldn't mind popping my ps3 disc into my ps4 to play
a better looking and running version of one of the best games to come
out last year.

Maybe I dreamt it? Probably? Very likely?

They have two teams. One for Uncharted, one that did TLOU which is now finished. Surely they haven't been sunbathing since the release and certainly not been working on this remaster.

Also let's not forget that Sony's remasters have always only ever been just that. Simple "run the game at higher res and better IQ", see GOW, ICO+SOTC... Anything better (which apparently we will get, in the end) is just gravy.

I can already see the nagging and whinging from people expecting TLOU receiving the same treatment as Tomb Raider on PS4 - amplified by the divinity status of ND as tech gods.

I hope they do not do this.
Just wait for a sale.

I don't think it's necessarily expectations, just a little hope for something better, which isn't unrealistic. All the artwork is done from LoU - ND 'just' need an engine running on PS4. And they are presumably creating a new engine, so are they porting LoU to the new engine and switching on the better lighting stuff? Probably not, and it's probably not that easy, so the whole renderer is a last-gen one, basically. It's still a good game no doubt, but it changes interest from those who have already played the original. LoU looking as good as ISS would have generated more interest.

So, it's not on a new engine. Fair enough. We needed to see it to know that.

No shit Sherlock!

I haven't played much of it so I'll take whatever they throw at me. Still. Maybe I'm just a cynical, pessimistic, bitter old bitch. But hey I'll be the one who has more chance to be pleasantly surprised.

Having gone back and played some LoU as a refresher I've realised, apart from how amazing it looks on the PS3, is just how detailed the artwork is on textures. I'm guessing that ND must have painstakingly hand painted the majority of textures. I'm also guessing that these won't scale very well to higher resolutions, details will become very blurred. Any kind of AA is probably going to cause issues with it.
