Last of Us [PS4]

OI don't really think we'll see an Uncharted game this year, by the way. Unless ND is just running on auto pilot and churns out a prettier version of what we've played 3 times already of course.
I think this year is a good bet for Uncharted 4. We know ND have two teams, one of which delivered The Last of Us last summer (2013) and the other team delivered Uncharted 3 in 2011. They've already said they're not developing a new engine for PS4 so I'd expect something special after three years.

But I would like less scripted intrusions into gameplay (Uncharted 3 crossed a line for me), and more open gameplay - multiple/open paths to goals, combat or stealth etc.

Thats news.its 5 gb, right?

I fear with you.... got a new 42" TV since I played TLoU and I wonder what's left of the IQ on a much bigger screen ;)

I played TLoU on my quality 55" Panasonic plasma and you really have nothing to worry about as far as the IQ is concerned. Then again I haven't played Ps4 on it so my eyes haven't being spoiled yet by the next gen.

its ok, the arts in the game is so good, it doesn't really matter. Looks better than a lot of next gen game from time to time.

Wow, so the dlc comes with brand new music ! I thought they would recycle stuff from the main game, this is amazing :D !

Btw, can we play the DLC even if one has not completed the game? I have moved into a new psn acconut since the arrival of the ps4 and this account is clean, so it doesn't have my save game. I hope I can play in this account itself and don't have to go back to my old account.

Yes, I think Neil Druckmann once stated you don't have to finish the full game for the DLC.

PS: you should really finish the game. IMHO unforgettable experience, until the very end.

I have finished it twice , on hard and survivor, without listen mode , never touched the listen mode :D ! Its just that that save game is on an old psn account. I am on a diff account now and want to play on this one.

really hope that this is a 5+ hours experience... thought the production value is probably high enough to justify the 15 bucks I spent....

Agreed. Last gen games can still look pretty damn impressive. I played a bit of RE6 recently, and while the game itself is a total mess, I couldn't help but think just how damn spectacular it often looks. Cut-scenes in particular are simply peerless - that game has some impressively animated faces delivering impressively bad lines. It really is almost all about the art at this point.

The cut scene in RE6 looks good especially when they are real time. But game itself is horrible, some of the environment has like PS2/ Dreamcast texture. Especially the HK street. Thought RE5 looks infinite times better.

I heard 2 hours. too small, yes, but I guess depends on how much one explores and anyways, it will be unmissable!

Just got an update for the game, so the DLC will unlock after that I am guessing.

Surprise, surprise : The DLC isn't what you think it is :D

EDIT: How the F do they keep finding performance out of the ps3??? The flashlight has realtime GI almost everywhere now and I see some very fancy reflections on the water this time. I wonder what they are going to do on the ps4 !

Can you give a hint ? I have to wait another 10 hours before I can power on my PS3.

EDIT: reviews are up: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-14-the-last-of-us-left-behind-review

EDIT2: played about 1/3 of the game.
Interesting twist that the game also tells the part where Joel was wounded
and Ellie had to look for ways to fix him. Have to say it's even more story than game, but ok for me.

By the weird artifacts I've seen on surface edges with high contrast lighting, I'd guess they implemented inferred rendering... Effectively halving the screen's lighting res.

ok, so thats how they got the extra performance. IQ has suffered, though. I too noticed those artifacts.

I have finished the DLC:

Like The Riley part of the story, very memorable stuff in there, don't like the combat part(I will not name it to avoid spoilers) at all. Combat setups just don't have the gravity of the main game. They feel like normal videogames , not LOU real life scenarios. Stuff lying around before a fight so that u don't fail. Objectives prompts not appearing because you stealthed thru the level instead of killing everyone, bah !Human AI also was stupid (I played on hard without listen mode)something I never felt in the main game.

Also, biggest gripe: They completely avoided the biggest, gut wrenching part of the Riley story. I paid for that, frankly, and they left it out.
they don't show at all what Ellie does when RIley turns into a cordycep but she doesn't. How she copes with it? Does she kill her? Does she run into the city again? How come the city accepts her with a bite ark? How does she cope with not turning into a cordycep herself? THe period when she waits to turn into one but it never happens.
I paid for that :(, I wanted to see all that!

Ellie feels fake in the "Other" story. She is shouting out loud in rooms "anyone else? I will kill you too." when this is the first occasion she is alone and fighting the infected alone in the world out there. not done at all. This is not how she was when she was alone in the main game. SHe is a small kid with zombies around her, how can she shout around taunts like Rambo? even Rambo wouldn't do it.

and a Little girl saying "suck my dick" when asked to sound funny ... Thats some quality writing there, ND. weird.

That's why I like the writing in this game actually. It is not too obvious or bi-dimentional. A bad writer would think "Ellie is scared, so she'll say 'o jesus' or 'oh no' ". A better writter goes further, and thinks the opposite "she is scared, so she will taunt like a ballzy macho to kind of fool herself into thinking she is not that scared" That type of writing creates a way deeper and more interesting character's personality.
In the same way, a cliche writer would have made the two girls dialogue be about dolls, and boys, and other top of mind, steriotipical girly blabber. Saying "Suck my dick" is just way more believable, and authentic, because it is not the top of mind kind of sentence you'd think of for a young teen. Yet it's still very plausible and, in my opinion, totally something real girls could say and that actually do say here and there.
