Last of Us [PS4]

i mean the shooting gameplay, not the shooting animation, physics.

it lag, it give no motivation to use gun,
it demotivate me to use gun with
- big sway when aiming
- auto-aim that can only be triggered after melee-ing enemy.
- its super LOUD
- it takes lots of shot to kill

it motivates me a lot to use Arrow.
- ammo are retrieveable (but very buggy)
- 1 shot kill
- SILENT

but the game give more reward for me by playing stealth. Its more fun too. I dont need to aim for many MINUTES just to shot one arrow. Worse when i need to shot a gun on some early levels. Its so hard to aim and enemy keep aiming their rifle to me. Throwing bricks did not make them move away from me once they notice my hiding spot.

i know that Joel are a normal human being thats did not take a sharpshooter lesson in military. But its just so frustrating to use gun to kill enemy.

if i must use long range weapon, Arrow gives much better result.

The things he described contribute to the gameplay. It doesnt need complicated shooting mechanics. It takes a simple and direct to the point gameplay mechanism and adds depth to it through its physics, visual and audio feedback exchange. Part of the gameplay is also how your enemies use their long range, close range and melee attacks and how the enemy attacks affect you. Obviously the gun is not your best friend and that was intentional. Thats why you have limited ammo, thats why you cant aim like a supersoldier, thats why it gives away your position when you use it and hence you need to consider using the environment, your position and the rest of your abilities in order to get out alive.

Yeah but the point is that it isnt because the shooting mechanics are bad. That's because it was intentional ;)

Yeah, the game encourages to use shooting as less as possible. But when you use it is very satisfying, that is what i was trying to say.

Agree 100%. But...wasn't this exactly what the developers wanted to achieve?? For me it works...gunplay is very very good and satisfying for me.

the gunplay is good, probably best I have experience after the first weapon sway upgrade, if you max out weapon sway then it feels too perfect. Basically its up to the player whether if they want to focus on gunplay or something else when they upgrade their stats. I played almost every shooter out there, no game has feel as stratifying as LOU especially with the awesome sound effect. Remember tv input lag also effect your aim, not really the game fault. Arrows is a tricky one, I almost never use it on anything but the infected to save my shiv. If you get a perfect head shot its guarantee you can pick up the arrow again, if you hit any other part of the body there's a small chance you can retrieve the arrow, but very rare. I find everything very useful in the game, so balance except for smoke bomb. I am on my second survival play through, still haven't use it once.

That should teach a lesson to Capcom for ruining the Resident Evil franchise as well to those that claimed making the RE franchise action packed was the only way to go to make it a commercial success.
I played some RE6 lately and I wanted to throw it out of the window

Survival horror doesn't have a broad enough audience my ass.
I'm not the hugest fan of survival horror - too many poor Resident Evil experiences - but I bought TLoU purely on Naughty Dog's reputation and the game media buzz. I loved every single minute of it.

Which is further evidence that the genre itself is not the problem, the quality of the title is. If other devs had the same reputation Naughty Dog has, people would fucking buy their games them being high speed action oriented or not. Capcom made RE6 more like Uncharted with the market excuse, but ND's LoU has been having better initial sales than any past Uncharted.

its a problem to some ppl, its the kind of ppl that dont have patient and mainly don't like or play stealth games. Some podcast I listen to said the are tons of ppl tweeted that they absolutely hate the gameplay of LOU but love everything else. When was the last stealth game that breaks 5 millions? MGS4? It was a mega exlcusive released at the right time, I think MGS franchise still sell based on the success of MGS1 and now just slowly fadding away.

yeah, capcom is just dumb, they are trying to make RE into a Uncharted + COD and ended up failing in both aspect. Big companies should learn not to turn their franchise into something that it isn't. They should be happy with lower sales and still remain profitable and keep the franchise original identity and keep it alive. Instead of putting out something like RE6 or Dead Space 3 (to some extend) which had killed the franchise. A reboot is only good if they turn the franchise into something greater, like the new Tomb Raider. Can't wait to see what the sales is going to be like for RE7. If it turn out to be a good game I think it would still be a multi million seller though.

hmm, maybe each type of game have their own region?

here, in my region, people loves TLoU. They generally have no problem about it. They did not complain the game are slow.

I fail to see how the success of TLoU is indicative of a broad Survival Horror audience. The game has virtually nothing in common with the genre in terms of mechanics. You're playing as post-apocalyptic Batman in that game, and death means absolutely nothing thanks to all the check points. And unless you're playing on the two hardest settings you get so much stuff that gunning your way to victory becomes a very viable option.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but Survival Horror? - I don't think so.

Agreed. Too many devs just retread the same mechanics they see in popular games, and they probably think they're playing it safe but I think this is dangerous. Naughty Dog took risks with TLoU. Managing and worrying about your inventory shouldn't be a fun game mechanic, but they make it work brilliantly. Having amazing gunplay but making it undesirable to use except on rare occasions should not work, but they make it work brilliantly. Making me care about my charge (Ellie) but not from her being vulnerable shouldn't work, but they make it work brilliantly. Having 20 min stretches where there is nothing to kill, only places to scavenge, shouldn't work, but it does brilliantly.

Hi Sigfried1977. hmm, maybe you play on the wrong dificulty setting? or you are just too good gamer.

im sux on TLoU. Im playing on normal and really scared everytime i hear zombiez. I scared and panic how to survive.

my little brother even laugh at me when he saw me panick like that :D

Oh it does get quite tense at times, no doubts about it. But so do Deus Ex Human Revolution, Thief or even the Batman games for that matter.
I think the closest we got to a proof that survival horror is indeed alive and kicking is Dark Souls. TLoU simply isn't determined enough to really inconvenience you.
