Last of Us [PS4]

That sounds like it may be a good option. Best I managed was take out two runners, but I keep messing up one of the runners, and then the clicker comes in for the kill. Thanks for all the tips everyone!

Most important , don't panic. The game has a lot of room for mistakes, whenever u feel u don't know what to do, just run in any direction, make some distance and crouch. You will get time. It is most fun when ur plans don't work. The game seems to be made that way, on the fly craftnig, picking up and just punching the hell out of enemies ! The game gives an absolutely fantastic feeling of running into something unwinnable and then winning by a fluke ! Amazing, woder how mcuh they mustave play tested this stuff to get it right.

I am at Pittsburg(?) can I click that spoiler ?

If you are in the beginning of Pittsburg no!. I its more or less, i think, in the middle of Pittsburg. I am refering to a part of the game that made me jump from my sofa like i hadn´t make since the original Alone in the Dark basement ( a monster appearing suddenly from the water ) once i installed my sound blaster card!.

Finished it over the weekend. What a ride.Beginning damn near had me in tears (impressive considering how I'm a father of none and have known the characters for barely 10 minutes at this point) and the ending was absoutely pitch-perfect in all its gut-wrenching glory. I sometimes wished the gameplay was a little more adventurous and ambitious (at the end of the day it's just a very competent stealth shooter and doesn't stray too far from ND's comfort zone), and some parts went on a bit too long for my liking (Pittsburgh), but at the end it was still an incredible journey.
I especially loved some of the little touches. Like when Ellie and Joel occupy the same spot behind cover. The way he basically shelters her with his body in those situations is such an awfully sweet touch and really highlights the insane amounts of care ND puts into their creations. I also loved how Ellie went "Fuuuuuuuck" after Joel went to town on someone's face every once in a while. Girl swears like a sailor. That game just has a ton of heart.

Holy moly ! Just had a 40 minutes cat and mouse fight with some Hunters ! It took so long cos I lost all my ammo in the beginning of the fight and then it was all hide and seek.

Man, please play this game without listen mode on hard no ur first plAythorugh. I is Demons Souls awesomeness all over again !!!!! There's no way to knwo where th eenemey is other than thier sound and Ellie's footateps keep comfusing you. Man , so amazing ! Unbelievable ! Even a simple encounter with humans becomes so damn engrossing ! Do it on your first playthrough, the second time won't have the same effect .

This is the first time since MGS4 that I skipped work for a game ! And this is so much more than I ever imagined.

I've been playing without 'Listen Mode' so far as well by the way. I have a good surround system and these bastards make plenty of noise ...

That fucking
generator
scared the shit out of me !.

O yeah, that was uber tense. But after some planning I managed to pass that section without single shot fired!
Only one shiv used. :) Find keycard, test the door just to force Joel to acknowledge that he needs power, fire up generator.... AND THEN:

I literary exited that section with army of clickers few meters behind and bloater already choking me with his spores. Even though I ran, that was the greatest action moment that I had with TLOU so far.

Btw, Bloater can be killed with only one Molotov cocktail. If he moves from main fire, just few gunshots can finish him off.

:D

Yah ! I just have stereo headphone for locating them, but I love the unpredictability when u don't wall hack. Every corner I turn is full of excitement. At one point in that long fight, I was sure there's no one around the next corner, but as i was turning, it was a split second, saw this bugger sneaking up on me, he shot, out of reflex I pressed R1 ,threw a brick at him, sprinted head on and bam, my upgraded metal pipe on his face  ! Health low I ran non-stop to the other side of the room, shots being fired all around me. hid in a corner, everyone swarming to my position, crafted a molotov, threw it, missed.....damn.........had a smoke bomb...wanted to save it..but ...threw it right in the middle of them, ran thru it, got hit once more...ran straight out into the open, took a staircase to the upper floor...ha...tricked them....as soon as I entered the top floor......BAM on my face ! Died :D ! Amazing stuff is happening if you don't use the Listen mode.

Thankfully the demo had taught me that and I disabled it from the get go. Also, Hard mode doesn't seem much different, just lesser supplies, but it isn't bad as you always have your knuckles to bash them all  ! Damn, addicting stuff. Totally unexpected from ND.

Exactly, fully agree! You are the first that writes this, I also think that it is absolutely insane and nice how he protects her with his body...amazing, but as you said just another nice little touch that add together to a beautiful experience.

Same with the beginning...was really touchy.

How long was your playthrough?

I am now 15.5h in and wonder how much is left...tonight, I am gonna play some more...

Maybe, we should think about opening up a spoiler thread for the Last of Us, where we can discuss story stuff, after finishing the game, without destracting the others who haven't finished yet...

No idea how long it took me. It was definitely a substantial chunk of the weekend. Depending on how throroughly one searches the environments or how aggressive one approaches the combat situations, the amount of time it takes to finish the game should vary a great deal between one player and another.
Taking it slow really pays dividents in the game, though. At one point Ellie finds a silly "100 jokes" book (or whatever it's being called), and if you take your time she'll eventually start reading from it to lighten the mood from time to time. It's gloriously awkward and a real thing of beauty.

Yeah, I realized that searching through the settings often gives opportunities to talk to and with Ellie, a brilliant way to learn more about those two and their backstories.

The joke conversations are actually happening unprompted if I remember correctly. Maybe they even depend on a collectible you may or may not have found. I certainly didn't get them on my first playthrough, they've only been coming up on new game+ so far.

You have just perfectly described how i feel about the combat in this game. You have plenty of alternatives and the enemy behaviour is such that those alternatives aren´t always correct or wrong for a given situation. This is what games with fighting elements should be about: choices choices and more choices while you have a sense of fear for being still behind a parapet. And this is why i disliked Uncharted games shooting ( except Uncharted 2 in which there were plenty of levels with playing cats and dogs AI ) compared to this game, they became a shooting gallery as you had no sense of fear hiding behind cover. As in some posts i wrote, Half-Life 1 AI was great because they searched actively for you while you hidded, and once they discovered you they were agressive and had to act fast or you were dead. Smart AI is not one that is capable of jumping from cover to cover, is one of which you are scared...

The Last of Us gets that and besides gives you the most brutal melee system i have ever seen, along with a very good crafting system that gives a variety of very useful and tactical weapons. Shooting is also very well made, bullet impact has weight and sound is great. Added to all that, your resources being scarce and the crafting system being real-time also help to the tactical thinking need in this game and collaborate to the sense of fear in encountering enemies. To sum up to this, we have the game music and sound, sublime both. The moment which i referred in my spoilered post above wouldn´t have been so tense without such a wonderful work in the sound department... ( i use Xacti 5.1 headphones and are great by the way! ).

The game finally creeped me out :p ! Don't want to spoil it for anybody. I lost all my ammo and had only 0.001% health but fought the damn fat fungi with arrows in the end  and finally killed him ! I was so scared running aound with no health and a few arrows that I didn't even realise he had died untill I found my arrow sticking out of its body ! All ammo, all bombs I had, all supplies, all gone. For those who have played it it was the
sequence after Joel falls under the elevator and we fight the Bloater along with many infected when we try to turn on th Generator ;)

Wonder how I will survive now  !

Just happened about an hour back, she told me 3 or 4 jokes. She was actually tryin to tell me jokes before too, but I climbed on a bus and the prompt disappeared and she put the book back in her pocket. My jumping on the bus actually prompted our travel into the next area and the game made her stop. But she brought it out later again when I was exploring the building which was shown when LOU was shown for the first time , looong back !

She also has more fun stuff if u r taking time exploring. Did she try to whistle in your playthrough :D ? That was funny !

I unloaded
3 molotovs, 3 smoke bombs, all my shotgun ammo, and broke my melee weapon
on the persuers. :D

Are you using the Listen ability? Cos I never have more than 1 of anything  ! BTW, since u r a Demons SOuls fan, turning Listen off did bring me the same charm I felt in Demons Souls. :p ! I hope you are enjoying it too.
