Last of Us [PS4]

Lol Sony you idiots...servers are totally overrun it seems...no chance to download the demo...great work Sony! Wonder if they use the same approach for the full release...

How does a single demo bring your whole store front down within minutes of release? :p Well, with higher then expected, immediate spikes in workload is how. But that's beside the point. Surely they were expecting a huge spike of some sort.

I noticed the download size is only ~120MB. It appears they're using the installer route for the demo as well. Should be a good stress test for the ND servers as well.

Looks like that's exactly what they're doing. Once the ~130MB installer downloads and installs, you launch the demo and it takes you to a progress screen. I suspect the same screen and likely the same process for the full game's digital release. Quitting the demo installer, and then returning back it picks up where it left off. Does not appear to continue downloading when outside of the demo.

Maybe as a way to overcome the limitation of the PS3s OS that installers first need to download and then install, requiring double the amount of free HDD space that the game itself occupies?

I believe that's exactly what was stated by Naughty Dog. There's a video interview discussing that a few pages back, IIRC. That, and they said the download would be faster since its using "their servers" at that point (the point where the installer takes over). On the back end side I'm not really sure what "their servers", as in ND's, implies. I'm extremely curious though. They're not exactly EA with their own online infrastructure in place to utilize.

EDIT

Here it is:

It was in a video interview.
I will look for it right now.

Well, considering the above, 'their' servers may be servers they reserved at Amazon.

Could be Azure! :runaway:

EDIT

I completely forget they probably already have some sort of infrastructure in place for U2/U3 multiplayer. There's no dedicated servers for either for hosting matches, there must be something in place for stat tracking, labs and the various other server side components.

Too tense for me, from the looks of things ... Brrr. Not sure yet if I want to inflict this on myself!

I watched the Eurogamer livestream of the God of War demo and really liked what I saw. But yeah, I'm so not playing this in the dark. Midday play with the curtains wide open only.

i miss the ellie old looks. The new looks look too young for her voice and her behavior :(

btw
a few days ago after watching star trek with friends, we discussing TLoU and remembered... Before Uncharted, ND are making CTR!.

and we joke U and TLoU in karting race a-la CTR haha.

just finished the demo, a little disappoint by environment being less interactive, can't kick bottles around like U3 on the boat, vegetation don't react at all or you can't even intersect with them. Other than that everything feel great. Seems like they have improved their AA solution? The game is some of the cleanest looking game on current gen.

Does that mean I won't be able to download in the background ??? With the rumoured 40gb download, not being able to play for that time will be ridiculous !!! I woould rather they let us download the whole thing in the BG than keep the ps3 unusable for so looooong !

That's a good point, and something I hadn't really considered. But it looks like that's the case (at least for the demo). It doesn't queue anything up in the download queue and progress seems to stop when the installer is not launched. However, if it is 40 GB, you'll only have to wait for a little over ~20 GB to download to get started. :p A small flash based install screen with some additional background info (in text form to keep it small) that's not covered in game would be really cool for something like this (probably won't happen this time around).

He might be clicker ....... jus kidding, pls don't mind and welcome back Lefungus !

eeekk ....his name also has teh fungus in it ! Clicker for sure ! :p

You need 24GB disc space...that is stated at the preorder screen which is now online in the EU...
